I'm hoping the accuweather one comes true. I don't think I could face another winter like last December
-
I think it looks good. Also nice to see the temps hour by hour on the cloud/rain radar graphic
-
I dry my clothes in the conservatory all year round, it works a treat. In the dead of winter they will sit in there for 2 days and then I just air them off by the woodburner overnight.
-
I woke up to 11.9C in my bedroom this morning. I never heat my bedroom any way. Last winter the lowest it got was 6C and was never once cold in bed.
-
No frost for me either, thank God. I hate scraping the car windscreen at 6am.
-
At least the PWS forecast will shut the likes of the Daily Mail up. Any mild winter forecast is great news for me. Mild winters = less money wasted on heating bills.
-
My living room was 13.7C this morning. Not worth putting any heating on for the 20mins I was around before I left for work.
-
I have the aircon on in just the living room for 30min to bring the temp up to 18C from 14C then switch it off and it stays off for the rest of the day. No need for any more once the sun is out. Think it might be a different approach from today onwards though. I doubt I'll light the stove until December unless it's really cold.

A Bartlett high

No heating on for the last 3 days
-
I put the aircon on in the living room for 20min this morning to take the temp from 15C to 18C but It should maintain 16C for the whole day now with it off.

So another question:
Would all the members here, give up a cold and snowy Winter for a continuation of this until say March next year?
At the drop of a hat
-
No it was dropped from the bill. The clocks will stay the same and change as normal.
-
13C here at 8:30pm. This is the kind of winter temperature I like.
-
2 weeks ? Its been 3 weeks so far and its not even 21st December.
3 weeks of cold but only around 4 days of major disruption
-
I really don't think it's worth the investment for two weeks a year.

From Joe B*astardi's blog:Â Â
"HOW COLD IS IT?
Gavin Partridge has supplied the details:
The central England Temperature (CET) from the 1st-7th of December is -1.9, making this the coldest opening week of December since 1879; 1879 is the coldest opening week on CET record, so this week has been the second coldest opening week to December since CET records began in 1659. The two-week period, last week of November and first week of December is the coldest since CET records began in 1659. My addition: I guess when a lot of us started speculating about going back to the time of the Victorian era... we underestimated it. Â
Ciao for now"

My bedroom got down to 5C this morning, spare room 2.9C, hall 7C, kitchen 6C and living room 10C (stove had nearly gone out). That's the first time ever in this house where I've actually felt a slightly cold in bed.
-
The unheated spare bedroom was down to 4.7C this morning before I opened the door and switched on the dehumidifier
-
I had a little ice build up on the inside of my 1st gen double glazed north facing bedroom window this morning. I woke at 3am (too hot in bed) and it was 8.6C inside and must have been -9ish outside. That's the first ice I've seen so far this winter. It should be less of a problem this year since I bought a desiccant dehumidifer that works down to 1C, whereas my old compressor one didn't collect much below 10C.
-
-4C currently in my conservatory :o
-
On waking this morning with heating turned off since 10pm last night;
Living room 8.9C, bedroom 8.6C, hallway 8.9C, bedroom 3 (unheated) 6.5C, kitchen 8.3C
Now you know why I hate these freezing temps. My exposed, detached, rural bungalow is insulated with max loft 270mm and cavity walls have been done. I must be losing it all via the suspended wooden floors which are vented via two air bricks in each room. In comparison, my previous house (1930s semi with crappy storage heaters), rarely dropped below 10C even in un-heated rooms.
I know I am massively in the minority on this site, but the enthusiasm for severe cold weather amazes me.

Personally struggling to be able to get to work, facing huge heating bills and worrying about the wellbeing of elderly relatives does not excite me at all.

Sure I can see the joy of a picturebook snowy Christmas day, but weeks on end of ice days and treacherous conditions make no appeal at all, and for it to be starting in November is a disaster in my mind.
I couldn't agree more. The milder the better for me.

The house was 10C throughout when I arrived home this evening. What a difference no sun makes. Now basking in my living room at 19.7C, hallway heated to 13.5 and bedroom 17C

I'd like to see the local events part dropped or demoted to the end of the forecast. I think it'd interrupts the flow too much.
