Some hard frosts last few days, still some smatterings of snow remnants here, evidenced by @TillyS post, I believe the last pic is a house the other side of the river from us

I could be wrong but yesterday morning it looked like an Arcus or ‘shelf’ cloud across the moray firth. That’s about as exciting as the weather gets just now

About an inch of fresh stuff overnight with some blustery snow showers coming in this morning, traveling a fair stretch over land to reach us on a direct easterly

Nice wee covering from overnight showers. Lovely powdery stuff that snaps underfoot. Local bunnies have been out taking pictures of it too

Had ridiculously wet conditions with two days nonstop rain. My father telling me that the river Nairn reached higher levels than its 1997 record. Was delighted to see showers coming in first thing were of heavy snow, with a very small covering down to around 200m thus far

Hellish start to the day, raw with gales and lashing rain. After a short lull with glimpses of blue skies we’ve had some heavy, blustery snow showers zipping past from the West. Found a tick on the dog earlier, not having to deal with those horrible wee critters is another reason why cold/snow spells are great

Was pleasantly surprised around 2 am to look out and see the rain had turned to snow. It’s left a very small covering this morning which has frozen. Not exactly ferocious January cauld conditions but nice nonetheless

Very well thanks @Hairy Celt. Alert, her feeding is good, which is a big help. Although our sleep is broken regularly it’s fairly predictable when. Finding newborn rubber faced expressions entertaining, she’d give Jim Carrey a run for his money. The dog is ambivalent about the new addition but is perceptive as dog’s are and sensitive to her fragility (It’s no doubt secretly ecstatic about all the food-stealing opportunities she will present it in the future).

After the last few days weather Isha/Jacelyn won’t feature in any names @Kirkcaldy Weather wouldn’t give her that ignominy

The Findhorn looked huge today, snow melt combined with the recent rain. There were trees down locally with the winds but nothing crazy. Geese traveling overhead each of the last 4 days.

Thanks so much for all the messages and lovely wee personal insights and family experiences. This place is great We’re over the moon with our wee arrival. Who knew something that regurgitates on you so much could be so lovable. Very busy, having a shower is a win, but very happy indeed. Thanks again.

@Hairy Celt my wife on the case with the snowiest Gaelic name suggestions. Calling a bairn “snowy” would be “Sneachdach”. Though Gaelic names are usually pretty traditional so this could be controversial to the older purists

Snow melt ongoing. Wind was up last night. Very quiet and overcast so far today. Power lines were upgraded locally last year so at least we’re in better shape for storms these days (hopefully..). Plenty logs stocked to keep us all warm regardless.

Well. Apologies for this late spam post folks. I’m absolutely miles behind in the thread now as I became a Dad within the last 48hrs. So things have been eh hectic! A healthy wee girl arrived safe after a tricky birth. NHS highland have outstanding staff providing a brilliant service.

Have always found Culloden battlefield a good place to ponder so walked the dog within a brilliantly snowy onslaught there too

These conditions continued yesterday evening and in to this morning. Family in western isles saying they have had the most snow in years. Other locations the same. Yesterday and overnight it was great here

Hopefully another frozen spell will come soon enough and more kilties can get pasted with snow. Planning on raising another winter aficionado with stories of this particular blast for her catch you in a few months after I’ve caught up with what I’ve missed on here

Was over Abriachan way in the afternoon, wee glimpse of blue to the north within snow laden skies

Got about 10cm from today’s snow. Couple of vids from this evening, including one for those of a lamp post persuasion. Snow stopped within the last half hour. Reading -4C here

We got pics sent this morning from coastal dwelling Skye in-laws showing they’ve had about 4 inches and still going. Hope this big lump from the west delivers. Currently light snow..

Snowfall-wise today was a non-event, though it has started to snow lightly in the last 15 mins, just for sh$ts and giggles. Otherwise the weather was just grand, all frozen up with a -2.6C max and sunny spells. Currently -6C. Hopefully tomorrow the lot of us get trounced by the white stuff.

Small covering here with light snow and -1.3C. Our north and east fairing better at catching the full tonto showers so far. This afternoon the lovely wee wifeys standing beside me in Grantown bakery were talking about the snow saying “horrible weather!!!”. They were unaware that internally I’m doing a snow dance so that we get 3 feet of the stuff. Took the dog around Loch Mallachie on the way home. Been pretty nice conditions accompanying the sporadic showers.

A dusting here also. -0.8C. It looks and feels outside like the month that it is, which given our climate these days you can’t always say. Hopefully a few surprises for people over next few days. Off to feed the wee birdies.

Managed 4 ice days this week with a near one yesterday, so it’s been a chilly one. 4.8max today. Wet over the last couple of hrs, garden is currently a thin squelchy top layer with everything underneath frozen solid. Been sleety within the last hour

The predictable (and great) thing about snow is its unpredictability. Last year’s January 15th-18th spell with its yellow warning up here of ‘10-15cms potential snow over 200m’ gave 36hrs and 30 to 35cm + of snow to the likes of Strathpeffer and Drumnadrochit, both lying lower than 130m

Morning. -4C first thing, up from -9C before bed last night. The clear, cold and dry conditions produced another very nice wintry backdrop for the dog walk late afternoon yesterday

-10C setting off this morn, coldest start to the year so far for us, 3rd coldest of the winter. Inverness still cloaked in fog and currently-3C.

The model thread is generally suspended in a surreal hellish loop. Someone could print out a winter’s worth of its ramblings in to one big scroll like Jack Kerouac’s On The Road and have it as an art installation.

January 8

A coating of ice from freezing rain on Friday evening hung around all weekend making for some perilous (sh$te) conditions underfoot. -6.6c to start today. Wife says it was a stunning day at the house, clear and below zero. Jammy. Inverness was cold but with very little visibility. Lovely crisp winter sky looking west over an inversion in Strathnairn on the way home. -5.3c currently with sporadic snow symbols popping up in the forecast ahead

Bliadhna Mhath Ùr/ Happy New Year folks. I never know when you stop saying it? I’m assuming some point before next year is preferable..

The first day of the year was great, mostly sunny with low temperatures. Would take a few more days like that this month (obviously plenty where it pans down with snow would be nice too)

Currently over in Skye at the in-laws. Hellish wet last couple of days. Usual Skye fare really. Sun appeared near Sligachan for about 5 mins then the weather gods said “you silly buggers” and promptly smothered it with cloud and rain again.
