  1. I've tied down anything that might decide to vacate but, it seems it's not going to be as bad as first made out. nothing too unusual for the northcoast by the looks.
  2. In the last hour it has come on right gusty up to 46mph from NW and lashing rain. -27mb drop in last 6 hours. Currently, 1013.3 mb . 4.1C
  3. aye.. sorels are brilliant. I've not got one of the right flash pairs, mine are the 1964 classics and they are fantastic... with the cozy felt slipper-like liners that pull out and you can warm them up next to the fire. Everyone in my family has a pair and we wear them all winter..
  4. I lived for 21 years in Northern Michigan just a few miles south of Lake Superior where it wasna unusual to get 400 inches a year of lake effect snow and everyone wore Sorel Boots. I still do here... snow or not in winter. They are great in rain or mud too. Try a pair.. you'd never wear anything else!
  5. The day it started... November 24, 2010 Today... December 8, 2010
  6. re the video "what not to do in high winds". I notice the video is in boulder colorado. No doubt these women got caught out in the chinook winds. fascinating winds as the temperature can rise several 10's of degrees (up to 100!) in the space of minutes. These winds can be hellishly fierce.
  7. for anyone else here who might be in caithness... the local weather guru has a thing going with our local branch of the British Science Association where they donate weather stations and a computer tower to various volunteers around Caithness.. I notice they looking for another volunteer just now... so, anybody interested try caithness.org in the general section. I would do it in a flash but, havna got broadband.. :-(
  8. just for the past few days I am unable to change the location of the 7 day forecast. normally i type in my location and a dropdown box displays several locations for my coordinates and I choose one. Not letting me do this anymore. This is on my mobile phone this happens. Maemo firefox browser. happened about the same time gusts were added strangely.
  9. it was 70 in thurso? I don't believe you. lol I would disagree that it is impossible to guess wind speed. I've managed over the years to be able to determine roughly within 10mph what speed it is based on what happens around me after observing what happens and comparing to my local weather station or an anenometer. I'm sure most people who are interested in windspeeds have developed their own personal beaufort scale to some extent and can determine a close estimate by observing their surroundings.
  10. it didn't. it was very calm here cept for a few hour breezy stint in the morning. i'm speaking generally not about yesterday.
  11. I find when it gets into the 80's i can walk with great difficulty against or cross wind but, as soon as i start walking with the wind i'm going to be forced to run and eventually cowp. anything past this one naturally gets or (should get) into the crawl position. lol
