  1. Presumably due to all the cold flooding down into the USA and firing up the jet stream. Seems to be the same most year's these days. The last thing we need is a fortnight of storms with copious amounts of rain
  2. Me too, I have ignored them for years and tell everyone I know to do the same, especially when someone refers to them! My Mum has always fell for this nonsense, although once they (and she) got it right in the very early 90's, might have been 1991 I was 15 so still young. I recall fondly phoning home saying I was going to stay over at a friends and Mum saying that they have forecast snow overnight and that you should think about coming home. I said they always they say this and nothing ever happens! (nothings changed! ) Well, the next morning was one of the biggest dumpings of snow I have ever seen in Nottingham, must have been around 1-2ft easily. I managed to get into the city centre, before they cancelled all the bus services, the snow was knee deep, the one and only time I experienced this in the city itself. It was quite awesome. Looking back it would have been great to have had a mobile phone, but alas that tech was still in its infancy, expensive and the size of brick Like one of the other posters mentioned up thread, it is hard not to get disillusioned with Winter in the UK these days and the older I get the more I think I won't get to experience a truly severe Winter like a 47, 63, 79, or 82. I was born in 75 so don't recall 79 and barely remember anything from 82. I do remember enjoying Winters in the mid 80's though, probably where my love of snow came from and dragging a sledge to primary school I suspect the rest Winter (following next week) may now go the way of the , hoping it doesn't, but once a pattern changes back to mild and the vortex gets reorganised it's usually always a bad sign
  3. After weeks of looking at amazing charts its looking like next week may just be dry and very cold, not what the majority on here will want at this time of year I'm sure, myself included I love nothing more than disruptive snow and it seems just so hard to get to our small island these days. We were fortunate to get around 4 inches in the cold spell in December, hope that's not all we see this winter and I genuinely feel for those that haven't seen a flake I suppose it hasn't happened yet, but even Laura Toben was saying on GMTV this morning that although snow is forecast, it is only a low probability and may only affect the south before turning back to rain You can't help but think if this all does come to pass and we don't get a good dumping or lengthy cold spell, with the synoptics we have on offer, what on earth would it take As ever, time will tell!
  4. I am due to travel from Nottingham to Hemel to attend a funeral of a relative on the morning of the 19th If these charts come close to fruition, I doubt very much I would get there! Stunning charts this morning - Thanks to all who contribute so much of their time and knowledge to this forum
  5. This really would be the dream and an a truly memorable event
