 Not for Stuart yet again!
haha, sorry coast im a complete amuteur and so those charts dont really mean much to me, is the london one good for storms?? the only thing that makes much sense to me on there is the lifting index which does look good for SE, Aberdeen one not so good lol, unlucky Stuart.

Long way off yet we may see some storms around the uk in under 15 days time
i agree lots of storm potential cropping up on the GFS in 5+ days time or so but unfortunately it wont stay that way id imagine.
-
Has anyone noticed those sharp showers ahead of the main band today?
yeh. had a rather heavy shower for 5 minutes or so at lunchtime but dried up out here now.
-
was half expecting some lightning detectors around the Uk to pick up some action but appears to be nothing as of yet.

wouldnt get too excited just yet, but looking better than a few hours ago. its gone very cloudy here, any chance of a thunderstorm in my area?
-
Is there really the chance of snow tommorow for the region?
I know it wouldnt be much but is there even a chance. doesnt seem cold enough to me//
-
wow so little going on in this thread, but then i guess theres nothin to discuss. im still hopeful that we will see some sort of cold spell soon though. *fingers crossed*

What an awful day. Rain Rain Rain....
Any word on the cold spell I have been reading about?
this post is dead, i think, but am nt sure, that we will have high pressure over us bringing dry cold weather with frosts and fog but i havent looked at the models for a while and so for an upto date but slightly confusing answer to your question i would advise going on the model discussion.

It depends on the set-up. The last good Easterly for this region was 2nd Feb 09, but the flow was cut off after 24 hours. There is well documented cases of Easterlies in this region, Feb 1991 and Feb 1979 are well known as well is Jan 1987. Due to us being closer to the continent than say Scotland, generally we would get the coldest temperatures. The ideal set up for an Easterly as a fairly potent LP system over France/Germany, dragging the bitter winds across and generating plenty of convection and longer periods of snow, such as this chart from Feb 1991:

This has only come to life in the past day or so, so plenty of changes to come yet!
thank you for this ben. i am a novice and so explanations like this are really helpful . i was starting to worry that the cold weather had ended but im pleased to see that its not far away from returning. roll on the third cold spell

hi all, the cold weather looks to be returning much sooner than i had anticipated. there is talk of an easterly, this is ideal ffor our region isnt it? doesnt it mean cold and snowy?
-
heavy PPN fallling here for the last 20 minutes or so. its about 80% rain 20% snow. see u all in february when the proper cold kicks in.. .
-
In a word .....YES !!
IMO parts of this region should get some sleet and snow in the very early hours of the morning (4-5am possibly) but it will quickly turn to rain during the day on Friday !

bbc showed our region just seeing rain tommorow, so is this almost certainly going to bejust rain tommorow then??

Hi alll on Monday 27th I have got to travel from here to Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire for a family get together. I really want to go, but it is dependent on good weather, I was just wondering at this stage what the weather looks like it is going to be like, because at the moment the meto has light snow across EA and the midlands on sunday night and into monday, which has got me worried. So can anyone tell me what the models indicate for sunday into monday. thanks
the odd flurry here btw but temps up to 1.7oC so there will e aa big thaw of the inch of snow we got yesterday.
