Firstly its great to see others getting decent snow especially for those in the south west, I hope they enjoy it.
Secondly - i am not being pessimistic, just realistic, Emma will not reach leicestershire, despite what the BBC forecast shows, so it is game over for that. I have juest watch METO, she is battling against the winds, which are to strong from the easterly/south easterly, she is being kept far our west!!
That brings me onto the ppn south east of me, I have been under it now for an hours and nothing falling, the more intense areas seem to be breaking up before they get here. But as the wind is swriling so much you cant accurately track it unlike yesterdays, also there is no yellows in it so not that heavy.
The system thats being shown for tomorrow evening may be our last hope for 2017/2018 winter.
The winds are alot stronger today.
I do agree that the tempatures have been exceptional, but it has not frozen the small bit of lying snow we do have from last night, nornally -3 the roads are like icerinks even with abit of snow, let alone -7. The air is so dry!!!!
I also think that the METO warnings now are just to cover every eventually, belt, braces and straight jacket, and cannot be read into.
Oh well back to radar wathing - hope springs eternal (pardon the pun being the first day of spring )
Good luck to you all, if you do get please enjoy it!!!!!!

hello - well its been the best day so far of this spell and when I say best day 30mins of blizzards, better than nothing, but I sometimes think its jsut a tease by the snow gods to say 'look what you could have won!!!'. The forecast today was showing nothing just shows you
Has anyone else noticed how the Met Office website is not updating as much today. makes me think the models are still not firmed up for Thursday, Friday and Saturday?
I do feel slightly better abuout things today, prams were going out of the pram this morning.
I promised the wife she would have a white birthday on Friday and that would be her present

Agreed. EURO4, NMM, Arpege all have the heavy snow tomorrow going north of their amber warning area. Maybe they are waiting til this evening to be certain of it's track, or the Met Office think those models have the track wrong.
Tip is to not pay much attention to those hourly automated forecasts to be honest. They have little in the way of professional forecaster input, so if the raw output has a shower hitting you it'll give you heavy snow icon. If it then thinks it's going to miss you by 5 miles on the next update, it'll show no snow. In reality it's next to impossible to accurately predict the track of showers.
Thanks for info.....im in north west leics I cant see anything now for us this week

well I was not gonna log on for this spell as it was all going so well
however toys have been loaded into the pram.....just watched the latest METO forecast and its terrible for the midlands tomorrow and also Friday now looking the same.
I would think soon that the Amber warning will be removed for East Midlands
Just a quick question, when the METO updates its detailed hourly forecast for each day how can one hour show heavy snow then the next update for the same hour shows light snow and sunshine....arrgggggggggghhhhhhhh
can anyone give me something to raise my hopes?????

I am being really positive for Sunday I am visioning waking up on Sunday with heavy snow falling, then me and the lad off sledging by 3pm the village will be cut off (like it was in the 80’s) then a session of thawing out by a rawing fire, back out for a night time walk in the snow, then doing it all again Monday as the schools will be shut!!! #believebelievebelieve

Well after last years let down I said I would never be back on here........but I’m additcted to snow and the Midlands forum so I’m back
I was so sure that us in NW Leics would get an inch last night I even cancelled going to my Xmas do in London...but once again a let down however I am willing to sacrifice last nights snow for the hope of what is to come on Sunday. If that doesn’t come off....that is it I’m done with the Midlands Forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( well until the models show another juicy set up )
i think NW Leics should do well on Sunday? But I would welcome an expert view/thoughts

I've just had one of those moments of clarity......most people on here come in because they don't trust or believe the METO.....all the people in the MOD thread are trying to gazump the METO, where as they really wished they worked for them because the METO have access to so much more data that anything available to public access on the web!
Everyone talks about winters and snow in the 80's, 70's and that they were better but actually they had just as rubbish winters but no one spend time talking and analysing them on the web...cos it didn't exist!!
Ive realised that actually the METO have forecast this very accurately and actually I'm sad for trying to look for something thats not there or going to happen. I've been really grumpy all day because it has not snowed!! How sad!! If I love the snow that much I should move to Sweden or Finland etc, that ain't going to happen so, my conclusion is that I'm goin to stop searching for hope on here from so called experts and actually listen to the experts as then I can't be dissapointed!!! Goodbye

last few runs/updates or so has suggested GFS snow, bbc rain, I going for bbc to be correct, setup does not seem to support snow
What do the METO use? Don't BBC use METO data?
But I think your right rain for us
-
BBC forecast has rain for me yet the latest METO has light snow most of the night? Who's right? Does the BBC lag behind?
-
So what do we think we're going to get tonight? I'm going for 2cm in Ashby de la Zouch

(From the Southeast chat, hi!)
I'm keeping an eye on that atm aswell, looks like this could be the start of any snow for alot of people as its developing to the south of it further thickening it.. Could be a surprise snowfall for a few today across England from this if it doesn't die off as it hits land.
Yes I've been looking at that big mass, trying to work out if that is the band that is going to arrive (snow or rain?) overnight into tomorrow morning, or has it come early? Or is it a nice surprise???
0.5 degrees here

Nothing here doesn't even feel cold outside.
all the people in the MOD thread make me smile, they are always looking 5 to 10'days ahead and miss the short term changes, they were comcerned yesterday that the cold spell would end next week, they didn't notice it would end tomorrow or even really get started.
A nice day of drizzle to look forward to tomorrow

Showers coming from the east dying out as they travel inland!!

Just now, Dancerwithwings said:
I won't be.............................As long as I have a foot of it between now and then
Ha ha that's exactly what I want!!! I just hope those showers in the North Sea travel further enough inland on the wind as they coud deliver a nice covering as the ground will nice and cold.
the ideal scenario for me is a good inch between 9 and 2 am then a hard frost

There's the tiniest of tiny snowflakes coming down, which can only be seen in the full glare of our security light. It's technically snowing though. Just have to hope now we get some heavier showers which settle between now and early next week before the milder air arrives.
Don't like to disappoint but the milder weather could be here by Saturday lunch time

Very fine flakes in the air but it is snowing yipeeeeee
