  1. Been watching these storms on the extra radar, so slow moving. These are just convection formed through today remember, the main band isn't here yet. In any case I'm not convinced by this fresher weather prediction, I get a weird feeling that we may have even more chances at storms through the week.
  2. More strikes on that Manchester cell and it seems to be intensifying as well as growing north.. Right in my direction.
  3. Caught an image of a flash from that cell this morning, added it to the gallery. http://forum.netweather.tv/gallery/image/18556-darwen-forked-lightning/
  4. Strike off the Manchester cell now, looks like I may be right about this turning in to a squall line.
  5. Ok there is definitely large cumulonimbus forming here now, I can see them. That echo on the radar currently in the Preston area extending down to me is right outside, I can see the structure clear as. Edit: And looking at that structure and the newer blots on the zoomed radar extending down to the Derby storm it is possible that this could turn in to a line of storms.
  6. That shower just now has dispersed and the sun is shining through again, this is weird.
  7. Light rain falling here now but with large drops, I can also feel downdrafts coming from somewhere and the sky is turning increasingly dark. Something is going to kick off here soon.
  8. Just been outside and between the gaps in the clouds I can see some quite vigorous convection going on, I can actually feel the updrafts rushing up the valley. I reckon that from 4 PM onwards we will start to see stuff kicking off here in the north west.

    Darwen Forked Lightning

Still of a lightning bolt taken over south Darwen, Lancashire, during the morning storms of 23/07/2013. Taken with a Canon Legria RF 304 with automatic while balance active.

  10. Oh aye not by a long shot, if the cloud here clears completely for the afternoon sun then I wouldn't be surprised to see a supercell or two forming by evening, it feels like a Florida morning here now and this mornings storm has dropped a lot of surface water which will further aid any development.
  11. Sun is starting to come through here now and the temperature is rising rapidly as a result, very humid now so it feels incredibly hot already.
  12. Darwen, 7 AM. A weakly electrified storm though it produced some quite nice structured lightning just like that one, I sure am interested in seeing what the rest of the day brings now.
  13. It means there is more moisture in the atmosphere and moisture forms clouds, so the more of it during a thundery breakdown the better.
  14. Looks good down south there, here we go. I'll be making sure my video camera is charged up for the week ahead, could get interesting up here due to convective forcing by the hills.
  15. Dot.. Lets see if anything further bubbles up here this evening.
  16. Indeed, the convection here is really kicking off though there seems to be a cap in the mid layer.
  17. This. As a sufferer myself I find it is far worse before the storms arrival, once one comes through and the rain starts falling it normally abates.
  18. I can see that storm in the north out of my window, a bit hazy though so I'm not sure if it would show up in a picture.

    Dead Leg

Anyone fancy a donor kebab? Haha! [attachment=174041:IMAG0545.jpg] [attachment=174042:Recent.JPG] Cheers for not securing those manholes without telling me, you'll be hearing from my solicitor.

    Blame Culture

Not posted here in a while but since this topic has been raised again I shall be succinct. I recently moved in to a new apartment and... Sod it, just watch, I'll let you decide. http://youtu.be/R8TysZMKyG4
  21. Was some loud booms around 7 PM here though it did not amount to much, I think it was in the dissipation phase by then though I did see some very nice CB formations on the train home around 5 ish.
  22. Indeed, I was working on a truck that entire summer as well and I must have lost a good couple of stone because of the heat! Was nice though and interesting that you pointed it out as I was talking about the similarities this year has with 2006 when I moved back in March, and here we are again with more.
  23. Does anyone have the UV index for Thornborough this weekend just gone? Was part of a film crew at the fire festival up there and my skin now looks like I wandered too close to a thermonuclear weapons test site.
  24. More than that, though I think my altitude and being in a valley might have something to do with it.
  25. Err, where did all this snow come from? Looked outside about an hour ago and it was raining heavily, got a hell of a shock when I looked out again just now to find it replaced by heavy snow. When I got really cold suddenly earlier I thought it was down to me being ill at the moment, I guess not.
