I blame the Express and all those divvy headlines! Bad KARMA for anyone who likes the cold and snow. What we need is for the Met Office to start doing long range forecasts again and predict a Mild winter next winter season. I recall good COLD KARMA last time that happened he he

I wonder, is Yoda now working for netweather forecasting team? Judging by the forecast headline I suspect so! Let's hope he can use the force to move some high pressure in a favourable position for the uk 😉

Oh dear! You know it's bad when you log in first thing and see the model moans thread is the top of the list! A common theme this winter I don't think this winter is going to deliver (no insights or learned meteorological backup to support that just a gut feeling). Like the bad old days of the late 90s or early naughties. Hope late winter can deliver...
Ps I hate iPhones! Autocorrect ahhhh

I hope you are right ANYWEATHER. My point being that so far there has been a distinct lack of anything wintry, frost ice etc. but yes you are very right as winter very seldom pops his head up till January at least daaan saaaf. As mentioned 2 months of hope left

Gibbys summary over in mod output thread sums it up. Dying embers of cold spell - this winter is POO!
No doubt someone will say but yeah it's been interesting at least. NA being soaked up to your knees week on week defo not interesting. 2 real months left yet I guess. That's for decent reliable cold anyhow

Joe B thinking the change is on the way. Lets hope so...

Cold snap or cold spell? Please not a snap, that would be too much a disappointment weather Gods. Surely we are due a reasonable hit of cold 5 days +

My attempt at attaching a photo of the sun headline eludes me! Never mind ðŸ˜

Very seldom post in here but for all the doom and gloom regarding no cold etc I can at least say the last 2 days have provided some of the best freezing fog and frost I've seen in years! Admittedly not raging easterlies with blizzards as desired by most. Often a good fog has proceeded a memorable freezup. I can't claim any meteorological insight to this statement though!

When they get a quote from James Madden?
My thoughts exactly

Indeed - I'm sure there will be a few Farmers praying for a milder one. On the flipside I wonder how long before we see the inevitable headline from the Express 'UK set to perish in killer freeze' !

Regarding Roger J thoughts - fair play to him for sticking his neck out so early. He may well be right but I do recall him going for a serious freezing winter I believe the year before last which turned out to be fairly mild on the whole. It will be interesting to see how things develop...

10 years ago and the M11 snow chaos
Tickles me the end of the report mentions why we can't cope in the 21st century with these weather conditions and 10 years later NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!!!!!!
Also the dawn of weather terms being used such as "Feels like" rather than Windchill beginning to creep in! Still bugs me that current favourite of modern dumbed down weather presenting. Forget X factor - lets have WINDCHILL FACTOR

Another interesting month to look at synoptic wise is feb 05, the month started with the atlantic in charge after a Very atlantic domimated jan, however, after a couple of tame northerlies, just after mid month heights built overid atlantic and stayed there preety much for a month, we were then exposed to a Very blocked spell with easterlies and northerlies galore quote superb wintry synoptics, yet ssts were very high and the continente much milder than usual, what on papershould have been à v cold period wasnt quote so, but it was à very blocked pattern all the same, not saying we will see the same this feb, but if we did things would be much colder. It is a Good example of a v decending winter, i remember Many people were amazed to see such synoptics after a long long run of no major blocking, indeed prior to feb 05, you had to go back to dec 96.
I recall that February 05 very well. There was a low that stalled right over the SE and it just kept dumping and dumping snow for hours. Was probably the biggest snowfall the SE saw since maybe 96 and what I regard as the return of decent winters following the wilderness years post 91. Sorry off topic. Hope your synopsis is right especially with colder air to draw on...

Dont think we will get any snow up here in medway/swale till maybe 9/10 pm if that orientates NE on the radar This is soo frustrating but I guess we have done well in past years when snow starvation hit other areas of the SE. Fingers crossed...
-
Swale and Medway snow barrier still going strong
Soooo frustrating. Will it move NE up to us? Anyone in the know advise? Seen about 3 bloody flakes all day!
-
Please send some our way!!!
-
Been out all day so just logged in looks like west of SE region has snow. Anyone know when east and north kent will get any???
-
Where's the snow are we gonna get any in Swale???
-
iphone app show London at 4 c mon and tues???
-
Well it would be rude not to have a few more!
How about it's still snowing on Sunday for some of us???!!!!!
Hoping that the green shown all along the north kent coast on that map is FIRMLY SNOW not RAIN/SNOW. Often note that these charts under cook the cold along that stretch of coast and the result is more often snow - Lets hope so

Cold uppers never too far away throughout the run over our shores. Have to say though I've never been that convinced this cold spell is going to be anything other than a few days of cold before the inevitable Atlantic pushes through I say that not with any huge insight just a gut feeling. Hope i'm proved wrong...

Russia stole our Greenland HP...
Poor set up compared to what was showing last run. Back to the SW'lys, jet pulled north, PV chunk around Greenland, de ja vu.
Was this winter doomed from the start? I wonder what charts we'll be looking at come evening time?!
But to be fair that's 13 days away and a lifetime in modelling...

Will be watching the 0z come out from behind the chair! Lets hope its a corker as further agreement for the cold would be MOST welcome

And the following winter of 95/96 was rather good if memory serves me? What a horrendous winter this has been. So much optimism last October as always, only to be utterly disappointed.
