It has got a bit heavier in Hinckley now and the BBC forecast now suggests some heavier stuff this afternoon. It looks like being another very good day.
-
I've lived in Hinckley since 1987 and we've had some good snow events. Though there have been years when we seemed to fair worse for snow than other areas. I remember the sat photos from year before last (i think) the whole country was snow bound except hinckley which didn't get much at all. Certainly making up for any missed snow this time. I have move just up the road to earl Shilton though.
It's been snowing here since about 9am.
I lived in Earl Shilton until this spring, with a break in Coventry for university (hence the name). We did well in Coventry while I was there. Barwell and Earl Shilton are high up - relative to surrounding areas - and seem to do okay. I remember vividly getting a lift from Leicester to Barwell for a job I had arranged ahead of moving out this way and being pleasantly surprised by how icy it was there compared to back in the city. If snow was a deciding factor I'd choose this area over Leicester without hesitation!

It seems to be coming down quite fast, where I am in Hinckley.
I have heard from locals in the past, that Hinckley is in a kind of trough (not sure on the spelling of that)!! And is generally protected from the worst of the weather. Has anyone else heard of this myth? When we had that really heavy snow a couple of years ago, Hinckley had nothing compared to pretty much everywhere else around the country.
I think it's just one of those local myths. They used to say the same about Leicester when I lived there. What I can say is that in the decade I've been in Hinckley I have seen better snow events than I did in the twenty years I lived in Leicester.

Snowing in Hinckley. Is the main band due to hit us and are we likely to get much out of it before it heads north east in this part of the region? We have plenty as it is so if this goes on as long as the BBC forecast suggests it could getting to the office might be a bit dodgy tomorrow morning.
-
1 to 2 cm I reckon. Very tiny chance of showers from the east making someone around here lucky but mainly light accumulations. This one is the turn of the East Midlands I'm afraid.
It looks as though small parts of the West Midlands might do well out of it. The darker patches look to cover the whole of Leicestershire and possibly as far into Warwickshire as Coventry.
-
That looks pretty good for the whole of Leicestershire to me, with North Warwickshire having some fun with it, too.
-
Way better here than Dec 2010. That may have lasted longer and was nice to av snow at Xmas but we never had more than 6/7cms in total. Id say 12cms + atm here. Will find out exactly tomoz
I concur. Certainly the best snow evemt since I moved out this way a decade ago.

That's going to cause havoc with the Leicester match tonight, i'm surprised it's still on, a lot of people won't be able to get to the game in time if they are coming from outside Leicester
I can't make it now and I'm furious that it appears to be going ahead. The conditions are appalling.

I've been back in Hinckley for an hour or so and I have to say this is quite superb. The snow is coming down quite heavily and we must have at least 7-8cm fresh snow. Wonderful.
-
It can't seem to decide what to do slightly heavier again here. I think 10cm is possible if this is here till 3pm
It has picked up in Coventry and I'm told that's the case in Hinckley. We've done pretty well out of this, I reckon. There will be more opportunities in the coming days the low temperatures mean it won't be going anywhere soon. This will be a great weekend for walking in the snow.
-
It amazes me how panicky people are getting. Even if this stopped now - which it shows no sign of doing - this will have been a good event for many places. And let's not forget that there will be further opportunities in the coming days.
-
The flakes in Coventry are very small now but there is still a lot falling. I don't have radar access from here. How much longer should we be expecting of this in the central midlands? I will need to start thinking about getting home before long.
-
Very small flakes now in Coventry but lots of the stuff.
-
This is coming down very well in Coventry and I'm told pretty well back home in Hinckley. A few hours of this and it will accumulate very well indeed.
-
I've just been through Bedworth and into Nuneaton now. The snow is heavier than it was in Coventry and is settling well enough. Watch it stop as I cross into Hinckley.
-
Reports of heavy snow from Coventry, coming down here in big blobs, but moderately.
Can't say I've seen any heavy stuff myself but then I'm on the edge of the city, on the Exhall side of Longford. I'm heading your way as we speak, en route to Hinckley so it will be intersting to see where, if at all, this dies off.
-
It has been snowing lightly in Coventry for forty five minutes or so. Hopefully it follows me back to the East Midlands!

Very glad the threads are due to stay separated! The weather events between East & West are going to be very different over this spell.
Quite frankly, the Midlands area is so vast that the weather prospects for the Western Mids have absolutely zero relevance to those of us in the East! I keep checking back to this thread and I can say honestly that 99% of the posts have absolutely no relevance to us in the East.
I'd much rather have a quieter E Mids thread with relevant posts, than a busier one cluttered with posts that don't have any worth to myself (lets remember, that's the whole point of having regional threads in the first place!!)
You're only right to an extent. Sure, what's happening in Shrewsbury may be of very little interest to somebody in Grantham. But as somebody living in Hinckley I'm very interested in what's happening in both sub-regions because both are liable to have an impact on me.
-
You a city fan then?
Good news that the ECM is good for the East Midlands. I think we will know for sure by tomorrow morning what Friday will bring. If all the models are showing the band to make it as far as the Eastern side of the country then it will be ramp time for me!
I am indeed, season ticket holder. It's looking nailed on for snow on Friday as far as I can tell. The issue is going to be how much. Living right on the East/West Midlands border I'm pretty optimistic that I'll see a decent accumulation and even that bit further East in Leicester it seems unlikely that you will miss out entirely.
-
As much as I want a good snow event I also want the Leicester vs Middlesbrough game to go ahead on Friday night! A postponement wouldn't come as any surprise though. If it goes ahead getting home may prove tricky. Not to mention how cold it's going to feel at the ground, snow or no snow.
-
This looks like it might be turning into snow. It's certainly becoming more mixed.
-
Hopefully you and everyone who had rain at least see some snow from the showers tonight. As for here im just hoping things freeze up soon as it should just about look scenic for a few days providing no more melts
There is moderate rain now in Coventry so any remaining snow is going to struggle. Hopefully Hinckley will get away with it. If it stays frozen and white ahead of the weekends potential event I will be very pleased.
-
The rain is very light indeed. I can only see it by squinting in the general direction of a black car! I'm just hoping it doesn't do too much damage before temperatures drop again.
-
We have very light rain in Coventry now.

I rely on the buses to get from Hinckley to Coventry for work. Travelling back on Friday was painful and I'd expect the same tomorrow going by the forecast.
