  1. Snow being reported up in Manchester right now, albeit of the wet variety........ Some beefy showers heading down through the Cheshire Gap, but I don't think they'll quite have the legs to make it beyond the north Midlands. Temp is currently 5.7°C with a dp of -1.1°C Bish
  2. Great to hear reports of snow from the north of the region. Let's hope the rest of us can get in on the action later in the week Bish
  3. This is what we'll all be waking up to this time next week: Well, we can but dream, can't we? Bish
  4. Mostly cloudy here, with the occasional beefy shower passing through from our NW. Temp currently 5.9°C with a DP of 2.0°C Bish
  5. Indeed, on 10th January 1982: Shropshire's record-breaking winter In 1982, Shropshire suffered one of the most severe blizzards this century http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/shropshire/hi/people_and_places/nature/newsid_8993000/8993400.stm Bish
  6. Welcome to our little bit of the world, Bleakmidwinter I know others will disagree, but generally I think we do pretty well re snow events here in the West Midlands, especially in recent years (2009 onwards). Easterlies are always the best, especially since there is very little high ground to our East to disrupt the pattern. Also, keep an eye out for Cheshire Gap streamers - given the right conditions, these can send large amounts of snow showers chugging across the region. Bish
  7. We managed a mere ten air frosts here throughout the whole of Winter 2013/14. By way of contrast, we've already chalked up one this winter with a few more possible in the next few days. Bish
  8. That's odd, we had zilch here overnight and the ground was dry when I went out to the car this morning. Bish
  9. Only for a short while yesterday morning, picog. And then the murk returned with a vengeance. Current temp is 6.8°C Bish
  10. Sometimes a picture says more than a thousand words: I'm starting to forget what the sun looks like. Bish
  11. Indeed it did, Picog. What a truly magical month that was. Bish
  12. Not sure I agree, at least howling winds and heavy rain = interesting weather. The past couple of weeks or so have been one long snoozefest. Bish
  13. Oh dear, I think MIA is still feeling tipsy after his celebratory booze up at the Wilsons! Bish
  14. Hard frost this morning. Currently 0.1°C after an overnight low of -2.6°C Bish
  15. Hmmm, it's been falling for a while in this part of Knowle.............. Bish
  16. Gosh I can only imagine how frustrating how December 2010 must have been. A similar thing happened here, I remember Rugby got very little whilst here in Solihull we got buried in the white stuff. Fingers crossed for this winter. There are already some early stirrings in the Stratosphere. Bish
  17. First Fizz, and now lancs_northants makes a reappearance too! Winter must be close. Good to have you back. I would have thought Bolton, and indeed the NW generally, is a pretty good place for snow prospects (e.g. Cheshire Gap streamers etc) overall? Didn't Northampton receive a shed-load of snow whilst you were there a couple of years ago? Feb 2012 perhaps. Bish
  18. The temperature is dropping rapidly now. Currently 4.1°C and clear skies. I bought myself my first ever electric blanket last week - looks like I'll finally have a reason to use it tonight! Bish
  19. lol that is absolutely insane! Just think Fizz, that'll be the Warwick Road a few weeks from now Bish
  20. Good to see you back, Fizz! Fingers crossed for a more exciting winter than last year. Bish
  21. Another dull, murky day in prospect. Chance of a bit of sun later perhaps. We actually kept the lights on in the house for most of yesterday, it was so gloomy. Just imagine if this little lot had fallen as snow.......... Plus Midlands Ice Age. And Fizz should be emerging from her hibernation anytime soon. Bish
  22. Quite misty here this morning, after a reasonably clear start. Currently 9.9°C Bish
  23. Rain, rain, and yet more rain here. 7.50mm so far today, with plenty more heading this way judging by the radar. Bish
  24. lol why is it that whenever I read one of your posts I suddenly start feeling very hungry? Time to treat myself to some yummy Cantonese Style Chicken from the local takeaway..... Bish
  25. -0.1°C right now, the first time we've dropped below zero since 3rd May. The first of many? Bish
