-
ha ha peter i can hear banging about here now outside its certainly battering our region about a bit
-
i dunno bout it being calm hubby went out in car about quarter to 2 and he said its blowing the car about something chronic its battering us here terribly even the motorways are having murder with traffic issues
-
dont u get much snow there then crewe we do here
they get it wrong most of the time i just open the curtains now to see what weather we have
-
i know its very windy out there poor dog got blown over
-
on here the forecasted me for snow friday was 57% earlier now when i looked its now jumped up to 65%
-
It was shut during the January 2007 gale and it was chaos. There aren't that many bridges over the Manchester Ship Canal believe it or not. From Salford Quays to the M6 Thelwall Viaduct, which incidently could also be shut if the winds get too strong there are only 4 bridges in about a 15 miles stretch of the canal.
Can you imagine Thelwall Viaduct and Barton Bridge shut at rush hour?!
has been known to shut for high sided vehicles but ive not known it shut to cars might well be though
-
yeah batten down the hatches as they say its been windy here all day and last night too
-
dunno peter i have always wondered that myself for years but the motorways wont be in open spaces no doubt thelwall viaduct be shut to high sided vehicles very soon
-
because thats all i have ever been taught to go by the astronomical side of weather but hey ho that can always change i could always use the weather side of it
-
i agree peter they do get it wrong alot of the time thats how i look at it first day of winter is 21st december and this year its 22nd im not sure on the meteorological side as i dont study weather,
-
but if u look on some callendars it tells u what date spring summer autumn and winter start and finsih
-
its always known to first day of winter has always been 21st dec or after this year its 22nd december even i asked a weather presenter on twitter to settle an argument on when the first day of winter offically starts and he says its 21st december but as the seasons weathers are so messed up daffodils are out and still have wasps here
-
we had 15inches last 3 years and others years have had it quiet heavy too when i lived down home in 91 and 92 was a bad winter 3 days with no electric and proper cold winters im not right in skem im on the outskirts of it and it seems to me we are a bit higher ground than wigan and st helens
-
yep well the official first day is 21st dec lol nick and then how come the forecasters said we have had rain sat sun and mon when its been quiet clearly we had bad hailstones setting car alarms off and battering the windows
-
Its very rare skem gets snow. The last 3 years have been an exeption due to cold winters.
and winter starts on dec 21st
hmmm well i been here nearly 8 years now and always have had snow i cant remember when we havent had snow in winter months i recall not many years ago we had snow in middle of march and had bad snow here in november too
-
yep nick r i was just stating the truth lol i am nowhere near the coastal paths i am 20 odd miles from preston 17 from liverpool about 80 miles from cumbria about 40 from warrington and im about 40 odd from manchester and i still get snow as someone commented we struggle to get snow i wish that was the case but the past 3 years running we have been snowed in here for 2 weeks i am right by the m58 junction 5 and near enough to the m6 too im in west lancashire
-
besides the first day of winter is 21st december so until then we are still in autmn
-
Lets be frank about it all, if you live in Preston/Liverpool/Manchester/Warrington or what ever fair low laying areas there are in the north-west you will always struggle to get snow, even up on the higher hills struggle.....everyone knows if you live in lancashire you struggle unless your around the higher pennine parts.
Cumbria always fairs better but again low laying areas struggle, The amount of times i've been to Preston or Manchester and looked at the snowy hills of the pennines when it's just cold and miserable lower down is unbelievable.
In the last few years up in the pennines we have had up to a foot of snow when Manchester etc. have had nothing.
ha ha ha oh dear then how come the past 3 years running i have been snowed in december 17th and im not even no where near cumbria manchester preston liverpool and warrington
-
im hoping for some snow but earlier on north west today its got rain for the whole of the north west region hmmm
-
i wonder if the snow will hit skelmersdale as im in west lancashire and stuck between the 2 boundaries west lancs and cheshire m58 and m6 not too far from me hmmm we will see the forcasters said we will have rain from last weekend and they got that wrong we had hail for the 3 days sat sun mon so they get the weather wrong at all times in my eyes i just open the curtains every morning and go by that
-
its windy here and cold met office worry about london more thn the rest of us who have to brace these strong winds etc
-
dunno what its doing here its turned the freeview box off twice
