  1. Still moderate snow falling here. So that is 3-4 hours of it now. Only settled on cars/grass, 1-2cm. I have just returned from the supermarket and the roads and paths are clear. I can't say the same about the car park though! I decided to park on the top level and it was completed covered. Made a very interesting and slippery walk between the car and the stairs!

A couple of pics of my garden:

  2. Big wet snowflakes mixed in with rain here. Definitely not settling though. It has been like this for the past hour but, unless the rain stops and leaves just snowflakes, I can't see this coming to much!

I still have only heavy rain forecast for tomorrow, with a brief change to sleet early monday morning. So I will be keeping an eye on whether the low does shift south tomorrow. We will be out celebrating my son's 11th birthday so, from a selfish POV, could it wait until after 8pm??! I don't fancy being stuck in the car with 3 children fool.gif

  3. I think you should look at the radar again , your exaggerating so much there, it's an intense area of snow , it wouldn't go anywhere as it is at the minute until midnight at least, it has lost a bit of intensity , but still reds , greens , yellows in there , it will wax and wane a little , but it's a very snowy night , and some places will get over 20cm

I hope you are right. On the radar I keep seeing a hole appearing just over Hampshire! I'm assuming the met office think that the band will keep pepping up.

  4. Its close by... although I have rung a few people in Basingstoke and they haven't got anything despite the radar showing they have.

Radar has been showing ppn over this part of the region for over an hour now, but I can assure you that there has been nothing. No rain, sleet, snow, drizzle, snizzle or anything else that could possibly come down!! Metoffice app has heavy snow for me at 3pm and 6pm, so something has to turn up soon!

  5. where are all the central southerners?! i'm working in Farnborough at present, have a meeting in winchester this afternoon until 5pm, then have to get home to bournemouth afterwards.

Am i going to make it?!

Surely what is falling now across the New Forest/Bournemouth/Southampton area is rain is it not?

*edit* - the missus says it is raining heavily in bournemouth.

Some of us are here! I am keeping an eye on the radar. The met office has the heavy snow arriving here around 6pm, but the band of precipitation seems to be heading NW. So I'm not highly confident of a lot of snow here. Still, these things can change at the last minute so I know I will be checking that radar every half an hour or so!!

  6. Temp here is -1C. Band of precipitation now edging N-NE into Southampton to my SW.

Not sure if (a) it will reach Alton, (cool.png it will fall as snow?? Radar shows it all as rain ATM.

Hmmm, that 1st heavy band appears to be pivoting North-West. So it may miss us completely. However there is a small (less intense) band coming up behind which seems to be going North-East. I'm not convinced we are going to see a lot of snow out of this sorry.gif

  7. Whereas in the far east of our region (north east Hampshire) it has been a fantastic spell of weather. 13cm on Friday, another 1-2cm on Sunday and very little melt. The temperature has only occasionally got above freezing in the last week and there won't be any significant thaw until Saturday. Last night's minimum was -7.5C. Today there is the prospect of another 3-6cm here followed by more freezing temperatures. Obviously I won't believe it until it happens, but if it does this will end up being one of the best spells of weather that I can remember in this part of the world.

We definitely cannot complain in this part of the region! The past week has been great for snow and cold lovers. Looking at the radar, the possibility for this evening looks good too. Provided that band of precipitation continues north! At the moment, the met office have me down for light snow from 3pm today until 9am tomorrow, with heavy snow at 6pm tonight. A radar-watching day, methinks!

  8. Around 3-4 inches here and snow is still coming down, so I expect to see at least another couple of inches added to that :)

Can anyone in Southampton tell me how bad it is there? My other half has to drive from Basingstoke to Southampton and I've heard there are problems on M27, M3 and A3. Plus roads in southampton too! I am trying to persuade him to come home but need a strong argument as he is being stubborn!!

  9. Unbelievably, I have just returned from the school run. Yep, my kid's school is OPEN!? And because I live just around the corner, there was no way I could get out of it :( It is horrible staring out the window wishing I could be building snowmen with the kids, instead of them sitting in the classroom.

Anyway, a good couple of inches here with fairly heavy snow fall.

Fingers crossed the school change their mind very, very soon!

  10. Morning everyone. I have just woken up and we have light snow here. There is no more on the ground than last night, so I guess it has just started here. I've had a quick scan through the thread so I can see it's on it's way!!

Now it is a waiting game to see if the kid's school is shut. T-80 mins until decision time. Come on snow!!

Right, going to make a cuppa and have a proper read on here!

  11. (Hello Severe Siberian icy blast wub.png - I was wondering if Ian had been on too)

Currently 1.3c here and we have had little snow flurries all afternoon! Really hoping for a good dumping of the white stuff overnight.

The school has sent out an email saying they will let us know by 8.15am if the school will be closed due to staff not being able to get in... Unfortunately the teachers are stubborn buggars that appear to love their jobs so I think they will risk life and limb to get in, but fingers crossed for a snow day! I can take the kids to the office for a few hours if necessary and then we get to make snowmen and play on sledges biggrin.png

I like the idea of putting all our ice cubes outside to lower the temps laugh.png I'd be happy to decant my whole freezer contents if it would help!

My kid's school has sent exactly the same letter I think. Will let us know by 8.15 too! But if things work out right then I'm sure we'll know well before then :)

  12. I've got a bone to pick with someone!! Just returned from school. I had been inside from 3.30 until 4.45 watching the kids play football. And I have just walked home through enough snowfall to completely cover the roads, grass and pavements. Not to mention covering me and the kids! And it's showing no signs of slowing down. Where did that come from? I don't recall any snow forecast for today??!

Seriously though, it was a nice surprise. And hopefully a small taster of tomorrow good.gif

  13. Morning everyone. I have been catching up on everyone's posts since last night and I assume it is still game on for tomorrow then??! biggrin.png

Currently -2c here and I think it went down to about -5c overnight (really need to get my own weather station!). And looking at my MetOffice forecast for friday, I now have heavy snow forecast from 9am until 6pm, with light snow right through until saturday pm ohmy.png . If that happens we could well be buried in this part of the region!

One concern is the timing. If this hits us after everyone gets to school/work then it could cause chaos with everyone trying to get back home. I may find myself collecting the children from school after just a couple of hours! Anyway, I'll be struggling to get much done today as I'm sure I'll be on here most of the time!

  14. Afternoon everyone. Certainly some interesting reading in here today!

A beautiful day here in NE Hants. Sunshine and blue skies. Current temp 2C. It's a shame that I am stuck indoors cleaning and sorting out my 10 year old's pit......... er, I mean, bedroom!

I am looking forward to seeing how the week turns out. Each time the met office update my forecast, more snowflakes are added for fri/sat. Currently I have light snow forecast from midday friday until 9pm saturday! However, I am just out of the area covered by the yellow warning, so I'm not counting my chickens yet! I feel very lucky to have woken up to snow yesterday, but would love to have snow at the weekend for the children's benefit!

Crossing my fingers that you guys further west also get lucky!
