  1. A few pics of the street outside taken about 15 minutes ago - still snowing albeit a little lighter now *Edit* - About 30 mins ago as it just took me an age to remember how to link images
  2. Moderate snow now, heaviest it's been all evening. The patchy cover is starting to fill in and if it can carry on like this for the next hour I might just be able to scrape a few snowballs together!
  3. Very light snow still falling giving a patchy dusting on all surfaces except the roads - hoping for something a little heavier towards the back edge. Still nice to have seen snow falling and sticking eventually!
  4. As things stand at the moment, the fact that the ppn is forecast to arrive late evening and in the hours of darkness it allows for lower temps and a higher probability of snowfall. Hopefully it will stay as snow come daylight and not turn to sleet/rain as some forecasts are suggesting. I for one find the BBC Met forecasts pretty accurate regards snowfall for our region, so I'll be paying close attention to tonight's and more so tomorrow mornings forecast.
  5. Temp has continued to fall throughout the night (albeit very slowly - probably due to the slack flow) with an ENE wind direction. Currently 2C with dp at -1C. Lets hope the trend continues and we keep an easterly element to the flow which will enhance our snow chances through Sunday night into Monday. Especially for those further west and closest to the Irish Sea. Wigan
  6. Greenland High still forming, low pressure sliding S/E - looking better than the GFS to my untrained eye. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  7. I hope it's ok to insert this link in the model thread. Quite an interesting read regarding the SSW and does mention a possible third warming event. http://theweathercentre.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/multiple-stratospheric-warmings-confirm.html
  8. And still it rains... 25.4mm up to midnight yesterday 21.3mm on Monday 54.8mm of rain so far since Sunday 16th. With a very wet weekend in prospect, perhaps 80mm or more a distinct possibility come close of play Sunday for my neck of the woods.
  9. Good morning, currently -5C after yesterdays ice day Could be a while before we reach these bone chilling lows again. After a quick peruse of the 'hunt for cold' thread this morning; it would appear the hunt continues for something cold and snowy in the near future. It would be nice to have something cold and festive for the Christmas period. Given the big day is still 12 days away; there's plenty of scope for things to change. *Edit * -5.1C now
  10. No hail just rain showers here atm. Temp/dp at 22:00hrs was 5.3C/3.9C. Now 3.3C/0.7C quite a drop off in the last hour. Wind gusts up to 23km/h and gusting from the w wsw and sw.
  11. Well, still waiting for snow IMBY after 10mins of sleet it's now all rain. Still early days with the prospect of some very cold weather next week. Good luck to those further east Temp up to 1.5C now and dp at 0.2C.
  12. Interesting! Snow now to the west of me and snow to the east. Still sleet here, more rain than snow.
  13. Temp climbing up to 0.6C currently with the frost melting on the cars and roofs. Some light ppn ahead of the main band very close now. Will it be rain or will it be snow...dp at -0.7C so it's going to be close. Not sure what the uppers are currently.
  14. Temps on the rise here up to 0C with a dp of -1C. Precip not too far away, should be seeing something from the front in the next hour or two.
  15. Weather forecast on Northwest Today finished with possible snowfall accumulations: Cumbria 5-10cm (hills) Lancashire 2-5cm Greater Manchester 1-3cm I have to say judging by the snow graphic, I'm right on the border of the snow/rain. I've found the BBC graphics rather accurate in the past, so it's going to be a close call IMBY.
  16. Good morning - Cold and frosty start to the day here with a temp of -2.6C after an overnight low of -4C. Hopeful of a few flakes when the rain band hits but not overly confident after reading some of the reports in the Scottish thread. Seems temps are rising quickly with the arrival of the front.
  17. You've certainly got an advantage with your elevation. I'd think you'd be unlucky not to see a few flakes falling for a while. Fingers crossed
  18. Good evening all. Exciting times from a cold weather pov. Amazing charts today with some serious cold being modelled for next week. As has been mentioned the Eastern side is always going to fair best with regards to snow. But, with a strong enough flow and perhaps some embedded troughs or lows pushing up from the south, there is always the potential for some snowfall out west. In the short term, very cold tonight and maybe a little front edge snow in the morning before it turns to rain (IMBY). Be nice to see a few flakes even it is only a brief affair Locations at and above around 200m should see quite a prolonged snow event in the NW. Currently: Temperature: -3.2 °C Dew Point: -6.2 °C and falling....
