  1. As things stand at the moment, the fact that the ppn is forecast to arrive late evening and in the hours of darkness it allows for lower temps and a higher probability of snowfall.

Hopefully it will stay as snow come daylight and not turn to sleet/rain as some forecasts are suggesting. I for one find the BBC Met forecasts pretty accurate regards snowfall for our region, so I'll be paying close attention to tonight's and more so tomorrow mornings forecast.

  2. Temp has continued to fall throughout the night (albeit very slowly - probably due to the slack flow) with an ENE wind direction.

Currently 2C with dp at -1C. Lets hope the trend continues and we keep an easterly element to the flow which will enhance our snow chances through Sunday night into Monday. Especially for those further west and closest to the Irish Sea.

  3. Good morning, currently -5C after yesterdays ice day cold.gif

Could be a while before we reach these bone chilling lows again. After a quick peruse of the 'hunt for cold' thread this morning; it would appear the hunt continues for something cold and snowy in the near future.

It would be nice to have something cold and festive for the Christmas period. Given the big day is still 12 days away; there's plenty of scope for things to change.

    *Edit * -5.1C now cold.gif

  4. Weather forecast on Northwest Today finished with possible snowfall accumulations:

    Cumbria 5-10cm (hills)

    Lancashire 2-5cm

    Greater Manchester 1-3cm

I have to say judging by the snow graphic, I'm right on the border of the snow/rain. I've found the BBC graphics rather accurate in the past, so it's going to be a close call IMBY.

  5. Good evening all. Exciting times from a cold weather pov. Amazing charts today with some serious cold being modelled for next week. As has been mentioned the Eastern side is always going to fair best with regards to snow. But, with a strong enough flow and perhaps some embedded troughs or lows pushing up from the south, there is always the potential for some snowfall out west.

In the short term, very cold tonight and maybe a little front edge snow in the morning before it turns to rain (IMBY). Be nice to see a few flakes even it is only a brief affair smile.png Locations at and above around 200m should see quite a prolonged snow event in the NW.

    Currently:

    Temperature: -3.2 °C

    Dew Point: -6.2 °C
