in a bit of a quiet patch now just raining, hoping that cell near leicester is heading my way but i think it will just miss to my east

yeah, looking at the radar the whole lot seems to be rotating, i presume as the low pressure forms? just been back out and the general cloud travel is now NE to SW , where as the cell that came thru here half hour ago was travelling pretty much due north. still rumbling around out there too

very strange cloud directions here. small dark patchy low cloud is running nw - se then the mid level stuff is moving generally south to north.

would think that's whats just come over me(de11). seemed to be heading pretty much due north

heavy rain, frequent thunder and lightning here in south derbyshire

just been out for a smoke and that cell between derby and sheffield on the radar is still throwing out some lovely flashes, lighting up the cloud orange with occasional forks coming out of it. i would say it's about 30 miles away as the crow flies now. beautiful sight

having just watched the cell thats battering nottingham miss me by 8 or so milesto my east, i'm looking at the big batch thats following it, but there seems to be very little lightning associated with this upcoming batch. cause for concern??

when i read that i couldn't bellieve it. just checked the radar out and it's seemed to have hit a wall just south of nottingham. might be my eyes but it seems to be pivoting so ppn south east of you will be heading your way later?? i got up at 10 this morning it was snowing then and still snowing now, only little flakes though but like tesco says "every little helps"

At work in coalville and its really intensified in the past hour or so coming down quite thick now

ive just had a glance at the (netweather) radar and said the opposite was true!! the green area south west of derby/leicester has intensified, and grown in area and now has yellow echoes in it heading straight for derby/leicester. i would say it's about an hour away

Coming down here moderately now. roads on the estate white over. completely un expected bonus . this should give a nice foindation for tomorrows snow to build on. I'm off to read up pn convergence zones.

Yeah matt h has basically said the occlusion develops a low pressure on the front in the irish sea which heads into ireland stopping the front heading east. He's posted the midday fax in the mod discussion. can't post it in here as on phone.... gutted

ive just stuck my postcode (DE11) in the met office site and its showing this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/de11 nigh on 36hrs of snow. yeah it might be light but we still have 1/2" of lying snow from last monday. and another potential reload this coming monday as well one thing i'm not looking forward to is the return journey from work. last time the weather did this it took me 4 hours to do the 10 mile journey home.

Eased right off in coalville now and got light drizzle in with the flakes. don't think it will do too much damage to the cover tho. would think the fronts about cleared now but i can't check the radar

Coalville also has a bit of altitude on its side roughly 300 ft asl but i can't see that making much odds tbh.. is the warm sector still to pass over us or are we in that sector now?? Wish i had pc access so i could see radar lol on phone at mo

At work in coalville leics and its snowing again to add to the half inch or so that fell overnight

been snowing lightly for a few hours here got a sugar coating , been outside for a tab just now and flakes are defo getting bigger and heavier looking at the radar could maybe have a couple more hours lookng at the speed its moving at

I've woken to a slight dusting too this morning . i am still quietly confident of seeing a good 10cms for me by tomorrow night. hopefully you guys west of brum can get in on the action too and we r all in here tomorrow comparing snow depths

just watched the BBC weather again and it's showing two occluded fronts. i was under the (maybe false)impression that there is no temp change from ahead of the front to behind an occluded front as essentially the warm sector has been mixed out? am i correct in saying that??

i think we will be ok and should do quite well out of this . probably finish up with a few inches by monday teatime.As far as i can tell from what ive seen and read the ppn doesn't ever seem to be particulally heavy, but i'm no expert btw

just watched the weather on news 24 . basically most of the mids should get a covering from the 1st batch of ppn sunday night/ early hours monday as that is pretty much an all snow band of ppn then the graphics showed the second batch of ppn being of snow to the north east of birmingham and rain to the southwest......make of that what you will.

wow what happened in 1981?? funny though that 1981 was snowy/cold here, from what i've read. (i was only 1 at the time)

great morning here at work in LE67. 11.00 heaviest rain i've seen for years. managed to sneak a peek at the radar showing 96mm an hour right over us!!i was down the yard on fork truck in all the lighting AWESOME!! loving it. currently persisting it down again with good thunder.

when i was 10 years old i wrote to micheal fish asking what qualifications were needed as i too was interested in a career in meteorology. He wrote back (i presume it was him) saying a degree in maths or physics were required.By the time i was doing my gcse's i just wanted to leave school and get a job and money. i'm 32 now and still doing the same job , which i enjoy btw , but sometimes i think back and wonder what would of been.Perhaps a little late for me now as i have the house and mortgage and a young daughter, to do a complete career change, but stick at it i say, and pursue that dream.sometimes i wish i had! and GOOD LUCK
