Any snow coming to central/southern Scotland before the milder weather returns?

Snow has turned to rain here sadly with some sleet thrown in to the mix.....but snow still lying after it fell yesterday......big warm up for New Year forecast.....then maybe looking at a stratospheric warming (SSW) during January......though as ever still plenty of time for the computer models to back away from this scenario.....we shall see.....Belated Happy Xmas everyone.....

The snow has turned back to rain here again so the milder air couldn't be far away and I hope there is a thaw because I need to get to work this week.....

Rain has turned back to sleet and wet snow here - has colder air moved back in at all?

Can anyone think of a reason as to why the rain is not melting the snow?
Why is it taking so long?
Snow still lying here but been raining all morning.......

This weather reminds me of that song from Frozen.
The snow has turned to rain but it is not melting the snow very much
So what are the models saying about the weather over the next week?
Last night I heard it was pretty much a full house from the computer models that the weather next week would be mild - is this still the case this morning?

No real chance of anything until overnight Thursday into Friday, the models have the chance of precipitation into the Glasgow region for c.18hours from early Friday but it may be slightly too warm - one to watch over the next few days. Then there are further chances over the weekend and winds hopefully going round to the North West next week at times which gives us a better chance depending on how cold it gets but that's way off at the moment, certainly lots of interest!
Yeah Ross for sure.......north west and easterly are the best wind directions (especially easterly) in a cold spell like this.....for sure.....for central areas......the last 2 beast from the east events were just brilliant for snow for us......

There's a band of snow moving south this morning. Currently snowing in places like Carrbridge, Aviemore, Grantown on Spey, etc.
Will the snow come to the central belt later? Or will it fizzle out before it reaches here?

it looks like we face a breakdown in the cold starting on Saturday.
Will the cold weather return? This time with more widespread snow than we have seen in the last week or so?
Judah cohen is seeing Greenland blocking 3rd week of December as being impressive
Would everyone agree that Friday is looking pretty good for one last hoorah for snow in central Scotland?

You tease......lol.....let's hope so.....a beast from the east.....now that would be a treat....this cold spell has been disappointing to say the least....great if you live in the Scottish Highlands in Aviemore or Carrbridge.....pathetic if you live elsewhere......

Any sign in the computer models for easterly winds between now and this time next week at all?
The northerly wind sucks......

According to the radar the next few hours look non-existent for snow in my part of the world wee bit north of Glasgow

Can I ask what radar you use?
I usually use meteoradar

The radar looks good for the afternoon for precipitation for Glasgow - will it fall as snow?
Can anyone show me why tonight also looks good for snow for Glasgow?

Would anyone say next Friday is looking good for snow for Glasgow?

Well done to Ross B for predicting on Thursday that Saturday would be the next best day/chance of snow for the Glasgow area.
Snow this morning - and better than the flakes we got on Thursday.
Still snowing now and lying a bit too and hasn't melted either since it stopped falling out of the sky - goes to show how cold it is out there.
Hopefully that front crossing the country now will pep up a little before it fizzles out and moves south.
OK, anyone want to take a punt on when Glasgow will see snow again after today?
Is there a chance of snow later for Glasgow too once the one approaching now moves away?

Just seen this. There is an impressive warming for the stratosphere coming up in the next few weeks: Unusually early Stratospheric Warming event is starting, with more to follow, having a yet unknown effect on the Polar Vortex this upcoming cold season » Severe Weather Europe (severe-weather.eu)
Will it impact our weather here in the UK? Who knows?

first decent warming of the season where we want to see it at 30hpa
will it be there consistently over the coming days and move into the more reliable timeframe?

Sleet has just started here, looks like rain out of the window down stairs but definite sleet on the velux window. Hopefully we'll get a brief change to snow as it gets heavier but not expecting any snow here tonight!
Same here a mix of rain and sleet

I think you might miss out. The Euro4 is forecasting snow for north of Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Tyndrum, Killin areas. You will probably be sleet at best unless you're quite high up. However, fingers crossed, you never know
Cheers catch
how about this coming week?
Wednesday look good? -
Is snow forecast for this evening?
I'm just north of Glasgow near Killearn
clouding over just now
radar showing the front to the west approaching

Isn't the snow supposed to turn to rain tomorrow?
And I take it the milder air will win out on Thursday with the incoming low ?
The low will push the cold air out of the way won't it?
