  1. Beautiful sunny and warm day mid-Somerset for the whole day - managed to catch ten minutes outside the office when it was about 22C. Warmth continued on way home where edge of the sheet of stratus was. Sat down in garden to catch some rays at 6.15 and sun went in at that point and hasn't shone since.

    :cray:

    Stratus now thinning.

  2. If you transpose yesterdays and todays forecasts then they were right! Much better today than yesterday with stratocumuous minimal until 4.00 pm. Burnham-on-Sea looked lovely - which is rare.

Sky virtually covered for a couple of hours with a few spots of rain even at 6.00 pm but broken again now and rather pleasant.

  3. I'd echo much of that - but don't think this summer has been as awful as 2008 or 2009. 2010 was much better in this area. It's amazing how different one county was from another - and Wiltshire was often on the edge of the bad weather which dogged the SW, particularly in 2009 when the SE had the 'BBQ summer' no-one else got.

It's still bad though and I'm getting frustrated - a couple of days in the 20's with sunshine would be great let alone 30's! I had a good June - but I was in Catalonia for much of it!! Sunshine has appeared but there has only been one day this month (the first Sunday) where we had the warmth and sun together - it's been sunny and cold or warmer and cloudy and/or wet otherwise. Not my idea of a decent summer.:cold:

  4. Sun did get through for a few minutes but cloud has reasserted itself here. Very breezy - and we even had a short shower mid-morning which was not forecasted anywhere! I guess I have to accept yesterday as the good day and hope that the high pressure reasserts itself properly for next weekend.:lazy:

  5. Uniformly grey and overcast here, which was not what was forecast yesterday, but the swallows are flying high which is a portent of good weather, supposedly. and it is mild morning at about 17c.. I have just checked the met office site and decided not to go to the beach in Dorset for a nice sunny warm day as they have just changed the forecast to cloud and 18c. It's going to be warmer and sunnier where I live (nr Yeovilton) so I guess that saves some petrol anyway. It looks like that front is advancing down a bit faster than originally thought as rain is forecast mid to late evening.

  6. Very sunny start light cumulous has appeared since about 10.00 - high stratus dimming the sun but breaks are appearing and sun is getting through at times. Decent weather for my local village fete and certainly the best Saturday weather here for many weekends!

  7. Almost complete opposite of yesterday. As noted by others we got the long periods of clouds and showers and zero sun until about 4.30 when cluds broke and sun finally appeared. Temperatures rose a degree or so to 16C on drive home inland and a pleasant evening with enough sun to keep air on cusp of comfortable allowed relatively comfortable sitting-out-in-garden weather (with jumper after 7.00 pm mind).

Currently a fine sunset - and yes it is red so fingers crossed! :db:

  8. Pleasant day in Bridgwater with sunshine from the start and a warm afternoon at 21C!. Heavy clouds appeared to east late afternoon which I drove into in my 20 mile drive home inland. Drove into heavy rain with temperature drop from 19C to 13C. Has been grey, overcast and drizzly since.

  9. We seem to have drawn the long straw here again mid-Somerset/Bridgwater area sun arrived about 8.30 a.m. and despite cloud and rather theatening skies to the south we had good periods of sun and reached the dizzy hights of 20C with no rain since ovenight. Pleasant evening despite growing cloud. Amazing!

  10. I've been round and about the Somerset coast today and my temperature gauge has not risen above 15 C. Very blustery and dull on Burnham sea front with unhappy holidaymakers wandering aimlessly. I have my pullover on. dry.gif

Sun finally made an appearance here at 7.00 pm.

  11. Since I got used to continental summer most years on holiday I think I've developed an expectation of better weather here. But we have had great summers, particularly in the early 90's and that set us up to expect them as the norm.

It feels as if we have been very unlucky here with some of the best weather landing on weekdays and then becoming cool and miserable at the weekends. The SE has definately had better summers than the rest of us - but last year it was the other way round.

I'm unsure if it's wishful thinking, or a real change in the weather patterns. But I did seriously consider living by the med for a while to get the long decent days of sun and heat - which I love. Knowing we can get them here but not getting them for several years now increases the frustration which is reflected by many on this forum.

  12. The temperatures forecasted are about right and there is a cool breeze but grey day with rain has not occurred apart from early hours. Skies started to clear at about ten (in Taunton area) and now it is cool and breezy with short sunny intervals. Rather like a spring day than a summer one.

  13. Nowhere near as bad as I was expecting from past forecasts. Wet period of light rain early morning ended about 10.00 a.m. with mild periods of dry, eventually followed by broken cloud with some sun. We've had more sun today here than last Saturday already!

Very clear air with fine views and cloudscapes again. Not an untypical low pressure summer day really.

I must be in good mood :)

  14. Mid-Somerset seems to have drawn the long straw today - some relatively heavy cloud over lunch-time but otherwise good periods of sun with little breeze causing a decent temperature of about 20-21 degrees. If all days were like this for a while I would be content.

  15. Intresting to see how different weather here is only about thirty miles west from Warminster. Clouds remained thick all day (lights needed inside at 7.00 pm) no rain. 18 degree. Yesterday much warmer with hazy sunshine between clouds.

Hoping upcoming full moon will portent better change in weather - weekend forecasts look abysmal.

  16. We seem to be stuck on the edge of the weather system here as I can see sun to the north about five miles away, but low cloud cover has increased again bringing temperatures down and dull light compared to a.m. Further south even darker so may be raining there. Sun has not shone here today at all making whole weekend very disappointing.

However this has maintained my essay output and I have now more or less finished work I had procrsatinated over for weeks so perhaps weather gods did this on purpose. :excl:

  17. Cloud remained resolutely stck over my house all afternoon with one 'sunny spell' of about ten minutes. Cool, and eventually rained at 6 p.m.. Blue now appearing to north and south but cloud still over my house. Oh come on!!!

At least this got one and a half esssays written.

  18. Started pleasantly with good mixture of sun and clouds - enough sun to make it warm sitting out but clouds have grown and are now joining up to obscure almost all the blue that was left. temperature has dropped about a degree or so as a result. Rather runbbish low cloud now affecting local RAF air display - it might even rain.

  19. Disappointing day here today despite better forecast. Perhaps they got yesterday and today muddled. Remained cloudy with little sun and lots of showers. Summer warmth keeping it from being very cold but no-one out in their gardens - more like early October really.:nonono:

  20. Cool day today with very heavy rain in the afternoon with -hooray! - Thunder. Early evening prolonged period of dry with sunshine raising temperatures pleasantly despite cooler than average. Very clear air with great views and fine cloudscapes. Could be worse.

    :)
