freezing rain has gone now, just light drizzle. Also the ice has gone from the ground - just damp now. temps up slightly to -0.2..

rain starting to fall as freezing rain now and a little hail falling too. temps variable between -0.7 and -0.4 ... now getting a bit of sleet too.

now starting to fall as normal rain, temps rising slightly to -0.5

still light to moderate freezing rain - sticking to the ground and leaving freezing pellets.

moderate freezing rain here now, starting to ease a little..

Just keeping an eye on that.. hopefully snow for us.. temps still below freezing now down to -1

Well maybe but i'm giving it another 24 hours before I say that.. I'm just a novice but looking on the raintoday radar it seems some showers are heading our way for later on maybe somebody could update us on the potential for later today into tomorrow??

Wonder if the Meto sent notice to the local authorities so they know that the roads will require gritting..? some dangerous conditions out there, don't even think the roads have been gritted by the looks of things. Maybe this situation was too difficult to predict in time?

Great pics and video.. It's nearly a year to the day (Friday 17th December 2010) since our last great dumping of snow..I hope we have more events like this within the next few weeks!! It has been great today for us in the North West!!

This is the same with camera still shots too, the flakes do seem much smaller.. must be depth perspective?

I was looking at the forecast from Liverpool airport earlier and they had sleet/snow until tomorrow morning. I don't know the extent of these showers or if it'll be as good as today?

It's has been a good day for snow - hopefully more later on maybe? I too am seeing a thaw. The road is a slushy mess and the pavements are starting to show through the snow covering. it's also starting to melt on the grass and car's too WV

Yes it has all stopped now, it's trying to brighten up and a thaw starting by the looks of it. We have a thin covering of snow with around 1cm of slush under it.I hope this doesn't freeze like this else it may be very slippery later. WV

True if it was to freeze tonight we may have trouble in the morning.. I may be putting some grit out later if the temps drop too low..

You have probably got a good 2cm's on the ground of snow in Mossley Hill area, here in Roby nr M62 it seems to be slowly thawing with a wet slushy mix under the surface snow. WV

The snow has stopped now and it's starting to brighten up.. I'm looking forward to what tonight has to offer if we get any more. Possibly an inch of snow on the ground at the moment.

Starting to ease off now, just a few light snow flakes after a good 40 minutes of heavy snow.. Not seen snow fall like that since the 17th December last year..! it's given a good 1.5 to 2cm's of snow on the ground.

Another pulse of heavier snow now falling.. making a better effort at sticking but the ground is too wet here.. WV

It's been snowing light to moderate most of the morning here, with some heavier showers now and again. Seems to be making an attempt to stick too. WV

Heavy snow showers / persistent snow in the early hours leaving a good few inches of snow. By day break clearing skies, a few light snow flurries and a gentle cold breeze that blows lazy flakes of snow in the air. By lunch time much more settled and crystal clear deep blue skies that last until the early evening. Then a misty dusk producing a stunning sunset and a good dose of fog late in the evening and over night.. WV

My ideal cold spell starting in autumn and through to mid-winter and beyond… Early October - Strong Winds with frequent Atlantic driven storms & heavy rain. Middle & towards the end of October and the first week or so of November - A settled period of cool days / cold nights with mist and fog especially around Halloween and Bonfire night. Remainder of November and into the start of December a return of Atlantic driven weather but much cooler and possibly a good cold snap with sleet and snow flurries. Middle of December, clear crisp skies and a settled period with some sharp frosts and icy conditions. The week before Christmas – Heavy frequent snow flurries as a battle ground scenario develops between the Atlantic systems and a good Omega block!! Over Christmas – well obviously a white one with frequent light snow flurries & temperatures around -2 to -5. Between Christmas and New Year – Clear skies but initially cold before a slight warm up and a thaw in time for New Year’s Eve. Into January and February at least one or two bitterly cold and snowy spells before settling down and warming up for spring! WV
