  1. Been a unusual winter up here in the Hebrides. Still having to cut back rambling roses and on the hedges as they have barely stopped if slowed a little. Pruning trees today and noticed I'm too late this winter with sap rising already and all the trees coming into bud. Usual bulbs coming up.. daffs and crocus, the snowdrops were up in early December. We are usually a bit milder here due to the gulf stream but this looks like being another decidedly difficult horticultural year coming up.
  2. Been another stunning day in the Hebrides again with back to back days of 25c and blue sky.
  3. Damp, overcast/broken cloudy start here. Heavy showers rain overnight. Occasional light rain. 13c, wind 220 13G21.
  4. Totally agree Cookie. It seems odd that there was no warning for the general public but Aberdeen Met office sent us 4 warnings for severe weather to affect the airport. Strange they can issue them to us but not the rest of the island. Incidentally we clocked 64 Kts at the airport with a sustained speed of 40-50 kts for much of the day.
  5. likewise 2009/10 was pretty epic across all of Scotland, living in Glasgow at the time and it was the first i'd ever seen folk walking across the clyde, sub zero by day and shockingly by night for the town. Driving up to the Island around late December was quite a trip especially heading towards Loch Glascarnoch. Would be nice to have another 'proper' winter.
  6. rather damp and breezy day here on the west coast of the isle of lewis. Max temp has occurred in the last hour 15.3c Rainfall 2.8mm Max average wind: 26.4mph max wind gust: 44.1mph very typical autumn day here.
  7. "Yes Craig you are right. We have been at the eye of the storm on a few occasions" It certainly makes for interesting crossings of the minch at this time of year :w00t:
  8. Outer Hebrides have been in an odd spot this year, was up visiting family during the "bawbag" and it seemed much calmer than what was going on in the central belt. Even the following gales that week seemed to hit the mainland more than usual, i dont know if it is the case but it seems that the centre of these depressions has been close to or even over Lewis on one or two occassions leading to the benign conditions certainly when i was there. Must admit, i dont begrudge you the wind at all.... the old isobars always look tight at this time of year up there :smilz38:
  9. seems to noticeably have dropped in glasgow..... much calmer than even an hour ago, winds appear to have veered to a north west ish direction now, still some gusts but all moving east by the looks
  10. Greendyke street and lanark street closed in glasgow as some roofs have gone missing and one more looking about ready and peeling back
  11. The warm sector should just about have pushed through the west now, should see the drop off in temps gradually
  12. blue skies for a wee while there..... getting dark again as another squall starts to move into the city. Hearing many businesses are now closing in town and sending people home
  13. oh my goodness this is incredible....its gone so dark, wind is getting right up as squalls move through
  14. Starting to get gusty in Glasgow..... usual indicators wobbling about (tv ariels, scaffolding)
  15. wow stunning hail and snow storm in glasgow right now everything nice and white
  16. off topic but..... only 4 posts and ive been on here a good few years not Nov 2011 (how odd... anywho) i must of missed something. Anyway, im expecting quite a lot of snow through friday and into early saturday until the wind slackens off. Further west and north is looking like getting a packet load of showers
  17. hmmmmm gotta drive from Glasgow to Inverness on Thursday evening/night then onto Ullapool for the ferry on friday morning..... this is gonna be very interesting.
  18. Very heavy snow in Glasgow city centre just now
  19. Really heavy snow now in glasgow city centre :smiliz19:
  20. Think its going to take quite a bit to get going out west just due to the topography, east is always better for an early start.
