  1. Heavy snow here. Reports of rain in coventry doesnt bode well though

Not sure what reports you are getting but im in central coventry had five minute blizzard and now very light snow no rain at all!

    Heavy snowfall again now! Amazing!

  2. Not sure but i remember 2004 'polar low' here in coventry never seen snow like it the day started much like today snow showers off and on then around 5pm bang the heaviest snowfall for half an hour i have ever seen!! If that happens again i will eat my hat..

  3. Depends who you talk to.  ive heard people say  it will be a wintry mix  others saying  snowmagedon.   Events like this always have a habit of suprisng  people, My thoughts are up to 10cm with height.

Looking at the latest NNM charts it shows PPN coming in late Tues evening and hanging around until teatime Weds, at best 10cm...

But the devil is in the detail... I'm sure that'll change! http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/wrfarw.php

Would that be 10cm across the mids or just the lucky spots lol

  4. Great news from Ian update ( sort of aligns to the raw JMA )

anyway here is my forecast track of the low- I will update it with model forecast tracks tomorrow.....

    * Orange central line is my forecast track

    * Two outer orange lines are the cone ( northern & Southern extent

    * Inside the Blue lines is my forecast snow zone

    * Inside the red circle is my forecast sweet spot

    * Inside the lower red circle is the possible mixing zone ( rain sleet & snow)

    * The pink lines highlights the probably adjustments-  higher probability it will be to the left of my line if anywhere....

    regards

    Steve

Coventry and birmingham area slighty out of your sweet spot!!

  5. Despite the optimism of the charts, the MetO 5-dayer has virtually no snow in the forecast for Ludlow.

Blustery and very cold feeling here right now, but dry. Temp 4.7C.

Whereabouts are you in the west Midlands? Can you add your location to your avatar so that when you report mountains of snow we know where it is!

Im in coventry kind of new to this so please bare with.

Don't believe all you read in the MOD thread.

Too far west -- we will get no snow. (say west coast of Ireland.) unless it turns up the Channel. (Unlikely)

Crossing Northern Ireland and down thru Wales - continuous snow here.

Down the Irish Sea and over West Mids. Potential for maximum snow, but could turn to rain for a while.

Towards East Midlands would represent rain. and sleet for most people in the midlands.

A lot of people on the MOD thread are in the south and they are desperate for it to move to the west and then up the Channel.

Also much depends upon the shape of the low. If rounder (and hence deeper) it will bring in more mild air and be a sleety mix.

We need it to be as elongated as possible to avoid a warmer sector and hence best results for us
