  1. NLCs have been visible for the last few days and with clear skies forecast almost countrywide this week it is well worth looking to the NW/N an hour or so after sunset (or the NE before dawn for the early risers or those on the way home from a night on the town!! )
  2. Apparently so...other reports on twitter about last night.
  3. I was a bit late looking out tonight but possibly weak NLCs in South Staffs ??
  4. Display ongoing at the moment as seen at midnight here in Snowdonia North Wales. Apologies for grainy mobile phone pics.
  5. My brother in law is on a cruise bound for Iceland. They have been warned of the severe weather as they are due in the Faroes tomorrow morning at the same time as the centre of Hector.
  6. Please post any reports and observations and general comments here for this season.
  7. Downpour and flooding in Codsall within the last hour. It appeared from nowhere on the radar. Still baking hot and sunny a mile or so away.
  8. Well that was interesting. Just returned from North Wales. A41 off Jnc 3 of M54 towards Wolverhampton is closed and most roads through the villages were impassable due to serious flooding. Managed to find just one road barely passable through Albrighton. The road under the railway bridge had a submerged 4x4 roof poking out. I then had to find the one and only road into the village not flooded to get home.
  9. The last two days have seen the sun struggling to burn through the cloud but day it's been cracking since early morning. 22° here and a pleasant easterly breeze.
  10. There were videos this winter on Facebook ( I believe) of storm waves crashing at the pub wall... However I prefer it on days like today similar to this one ...
  11. One of the top ten beach bars in the world.... .. and In North Wales! Great in a day like today! Cheers! The Ty Coch Inn is arguably the best pub in Wales and OFFICIALLY in the top ten beach bars in the world... according to a recent survey It is situated in the village of Porthdinllaen near Morfa Nefyn, Gwynedd, on the north coast of the Lleyn peninsular. With views across the Irish Sea to The Rivals and a sandy beach on its doorstep what better way to while away the hours. http://www.tycoch.co.uk
  12. Tonight is a super moon crescent in conjunction with Venus. SUPER CRESCENT MOON AND VENUS CONJUNCTION: Tonight, May 17th, a super crescent Moon with Earthshine will pass by Venus in the sunset sky. What is a super crescent Moon? It's like a super full Moon--only prettier. Visit today's edition of Spaceweather.com for the full story of crescent-shaped supermoons and how to observe this one. https://spaceweather.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0c5fce34d5ca05f64a13d085d&id=21b2dda337&e=598a8be555
  13. I had the amber alert from Aurorawatch last night. This from Anglesey North Wales in the early hours...
  14. Fresh snow again this morning at altitude around here.
  15. Now the cloud height has risen I can see fresh snow here overnight/this morning on the Moelwyns above c.400/500 metres.
  16. Went out mid afternoon and could barely get back down the lane an hour later which is very exposured to the strong Easterly. The wind seems to have finally died down now so the drifts have stopped reforming and growing. This chap is our local hero having been down four times today to keep on top of the drifting. A big thumbs up to him!
  17. A good 8+cm covering here overnight with drifting again. For the 4th time this winter we've been snowed in again. The very helpful farmer has been and cleared the lane but some of the drifts are reforming. Like last time, the snow is whistling off the fields almost leaving them bare and billowing into drifts in the dips and hollows, one being the 200m track to the lane! Thankfully it's stopped snowing. A slight thaw looks to setting in as well.
  18. The snow that came at lunchtime was still lying in the shady spots this evening but now everywhere is nowed covered. Looks like we might get a cm or two by morning. I also noticed this morning that there were still a couple of isolated mounds of snow remaining where the tractors had cleared the huge drifts to the roadside from two weeks ago.
  19. No more snow please. Having had to be dug out by the farmer three times just gone I don't want to get snowed in again. I've got a hospital appointment first thing Monday. The remains of the last huge drifts have only just gone a few days ago.
