Is that the one between Warminster and Westbury?

Driving home from Bath to Warminster I’d swear it was trying to sleet but the temps were 5 deg C. Certainly the worst rain for a while. Roll on a cold dry spell.

An interesting difference across Warminster noted by myself this morning. Having gone to the W/SW side of town there had obviously been more snow there yesterday than at home on the Eastern side of town.
I'd say we had up to 7 cm on the right surfaces (photos from about 8.00 am). Driving into Bath Uni - some patches with a lot less, now almost gone. Up the hill at the uni and there had been more than Warminster, I'd suggest. (I'm on the SW edge of Warminster, near the little Tesco).
Certainly a nice last hurrah. I also struggle to recall a winter with two falls so far apart (Mid Dec we had a couple of inches too). The difference was the mid Dec lasted a week with almost no melting...

6cm on the cars, 5 on the bins. Not bad in Warminster as not expecting much more than falling sleet and mush.
Bath Uni has called a snow day. Sadly this is WFH if you can, and the pandemic has meant that I definitely can…

Hi Nights King,
I just put my head outside the front door to wave goodbye to my son
and it was really cold cold and it’s been for some time.
it was quite confusing earlier in the day because we had quite a bit of moderate wet snow on and off but never did it feel that cold to me really.
I know sometimes people say it warms up before it snows but I felt to
mild for snow and now it’s much colder out there I don’t think it will start off as late as forecast but instead start office now or at least I’m hoping so.
for you though 100m asl I think has a great chance.
I want to how many metres Westbury Whitehorse hill is above sea level as I often go up there and play football with my boy. I’m imagining it’s probably 150-or 200m asl.
good luck everyone that wants to see the white stuff hope you all get itAre used to work in test Valley live just off Millbrook Road and the difference in the weather was phenomenal.
I remember us working on Romsey estate and it started snowing so heavy and settling everyone got sent home and yet when I got back down the M27 it was just raining onto Millbrook Road.
The white horse car park is at 225 m above sea level. Cody hill is higher at 244m. I have seen the snow line on Cley Hill on occasion, once memorably driving from Frome to Warminster, the rain turned to snow going up the hill to Corley Heath.

Apologies for my typo.
blimey I did not know that that 2 miles down the road from you there was nothing
I do know down at Salisbury and downtown they were having rain when we were having quite a bit of snow
so strange how it can be so localised
My folks in Shrewton (13 miles East) had a dusting, we had a re invigorating shower, like in 2019 but obviously not as much.

Hi mate,
completely agree with you.
I just can’t believe that after I de-iced the car within the space of an hour everything would be frozen up again and I have to scrape it again. Definitely the coldest since 2010 for this time of year.
I think we’re also helped us with the snow sticking around for so long was the fact that was such an intense hoarfrost the night before with very low nighttime minima.
quite often when we get snow it will settle on relatively warm ground and sometimes on top of rain that has been before and then within a day or two it would’ve all have melted.
we probably had about an inch and a half of snow here but I know local snow depth vary greatly for example Andy Brown reported 3 inches over at Warminster.
at least now steps are not that deep compared to 2007 2008 2009 2010 2018 and I think was 2012 or 13
and yet the snow has stuck around for quite a long time.
Great start to the winter season for cold and snow lovers.
3 inches seems over egged for Warminster (I live here too) and I’d suggest 2 max. Still good though.

It didn’t look at all flare like. I’m not sure of the range of military flares? And the nearest military base/training is Salisbury plain.. that is 50 plus miles away from where I was near burnham
That’s cool! I love all this kind of thing.. I used to be a paranormal investigator (haunted places), but always love anything on the paranormal spectrum
Car suggested 2 deg C but thermometer in the shade was -0.8 at 2 pm, so quite possibly another ice day in Warminster. Lovely walk round Shearwater (frozen). Where the sun has been able to get to it, the snow has gone. In the shaded parts it’s almost as it was on Sunday. Amazing cold spell, just could have done with a bit more snow at the start.

It was just like that! But moved down towards the horizon VERY slowly - opposite way to the way the moon as coming up. Amazing! I wish I had stopped the car but I only have my phone to film on and it wouldn’t have picked it up very well I doubt
Wow! Well the only other thing I can think of it being as an explanation is ball lightning but it was a completely still frosty, cloudless night - very similar to your film so no way could it have been this
Have you considered a military flare?

Very localised snowfall today ; a friend of my wife lives in Wylye and they had virtually nothing. A sunset photo from Stonehenge shows just frosty ground!
Meanwhile 2 to 3 inches in Warminster.
Yep. Been out with the lions in Trowbridge and much less snow there too.

It’s February 2019 all over again. Just keeps going
Yes, very reminiscent, apart from being a couple of inches rather than 9 or 10 back in 2019. Just pepped up again in Warminster.

Warminster now sat under a dangler beneath the main zone. Di poi gets wonders for the gardens and allotments.

Very strange how it’s proceeded over the 45 minutes. From nonstop thunder and no lightning seen to 4 very bright flashes and deep thunder during a downpour and now frequent thunder again as it’s clearing, unless new cells are developing.
Just seemed to appear from knowhere and now my water butt is half full already.

Quite heavy snow shower just now at the Uni in Bath. Weird winter.

Vague memories of a heavy overnight fall in my part of Wiltshire in the 80’s, definitely April. Online check suggests it might have been 1989. I think it was a shower streamer on a north westerly, but could be wrong. It was wet snow, and melted pdq. Any ideas?

Most of England is already under an amber warning. I honestly don't know what people want?
Its about using judgement. In their defence, calling red warnings all the time that turn out not to be needed is more damaging than waiting and seeing what is needed.

Expect upgrade to amber tomorrow morning? Rather late though..
Why is it late? Its only Tuesday. It damages the MET to go too early on warnings. I'd wait and see closer to the day.

A truly stunning morning, how frustrating to see pressure rising yet fronts stuck over us for at least the next few days!!!!! Gloom and drizzle and mild, err, hooray, not!!!
Was indeed glorious. We took the hound up round the golf course on a treasure hunt. She found a squirrel, got lost, then found again.
Shame it clouded over a bit, but a lovely start to the day.

Rain here in Frome just down the road from Bath Uni. Such is local differentials. ..
Advantage of height, and its not settling at all...
Bit reminiscent of last winter, where it snowed on a lot of days (relatively) without troubling the scorers...

Sleet/snow up the Uni in Bath. Don't think this is going to be a surprise snowfall...

So on reaching the top of Brassknocker (Bath) definite white stuff on the ground. Mot much, and not everywhere, but white. Closer inspection suggests graupel.
Not optimistic for this afternoon, even if GFS is suggesting snow for salisbury plain...

First flakes of the season spotted by my boy before me! “Daddy it’s snowing!”
I raced upstairs to inform the wife, who was underwhelmed... Nice to see.
Last winter was weird here. Snow fell on a lot of days, with one moderate event. More falling snow than most winters. I also live in dread that today may be it for winter... No reason, just natural pessimism.

And today’s cricket rained off. That’s 6 out of 17 league fixtures lost to the rain this awful summer. Really has been poor. Just hoping for a decent week from Friday as we are off to Devon.

Last Jan 24th we were driving to the hospital for the birth of our son when I saw a huge green meteor. Even caught it on the dash cam. Felt like a good omen.
