It's been awhile, since I cared about the weather. My father passed peacefully last week, a long battle, but. Dignified and at home. I have been digging a new border in my front garden, up and down, but generally, reflective in our joint love of flowers. The warmth we had, the day he died, blue skies, was reflective, then it rained for a couple of days, I steeled myself and dug out a monster 10 year pampas grass today, he would have laughed his proverbial off.
Sorry to hear the sad news about your father. I have taken some time off and have been pottering in the garden after having some bad news myself this week. It really does seem to help bring peace, in some small way. Wishing you all the best.

Some impressively dark sky above me at home right now.. I'll post a pic shortly.
I'm at Crossways and it's still lovely and sunny!
Edit: Just started raining lightly now.
-
Morning all. Likewise, it started dull and drizzly but it's now bright sunshine and drying off nicely. Really wish it would stay like this for the rest of the week as I have a couple of days off.

I went away for 2 days, came back last night ...and you were gone .
I know I'm only echoing other sentiments but I've enjoyed getting to know people's (online) personalities and it will be a loss for me should I not get to 'see' you for the rest of the year. I tend not to notice any disagreements unless they're too obvious and I'm sure the most other don't either - we simply come on to share our weather obs, have a look at what some of our very talented fellow 'regionnaires' make of the models (JP & Tamara to name but a couple) which helps us to plan different aspects of our lives, read Abruzzi Spur's poetic way with words, lenjoy BJ's lovely photos of my home county. I would like to name check every one of you who helps make me feel like I'm part of a community - that's all of you. Not just the members that post every day but all of you, whatever you have to say. Glad to have you back, even if it's not for long.
Sentimental moment over! After a very sunny start, cloud is staring to build. Warm in the sun but there's a noticeable breeze keeping the overall temperature feeling a little cool.
Enjoy your bank holiday everyone

Overcast and cool at work in Dartford.
Very much looking forward to the possibility of a warm and sunny bank holiday, although we're going to stay on the Sussex coast for a couple of days next week to celebrate our wedding anniversary and of course, all signs point to rain on Wednesday / Thursday when I had visions of walking hand-in-hand on a deserted beach, the sun warming our faces, love in our hearts.....
I shall pack the waterproofs.
Have a lovely day all.

No sun at work in Dartford, still very overcast and grey. Really hoping for some exciting weather today as it's my birthday and I can't remember ever having a good old storm on my birthday. Sunshine and warmth - yes; freezing cold and raining - yes. a cracking storm - not yet.....!

Ah, but you missed the really important point, what are they like for watching the snow flakes? Seriously it would be lovely to cut the light pollution so that stars become visable. Been on a couple of cruises where on a few occasions they shut the bulk of the lights of, such a wonderful sight.
Beautiful day, missed the sunrise as I slept in. Hope the rain on Sunday is delayed some more got a family day with our 4 grandkids, and it be nice if they could go outside and play, but by the sounds of it that won't happen. Start by yearly protest today (Easter and Christmas) refuse to go shopping other than Saturday, as I feel strongly that retail, distribution stores etc worker should get a couple of days off to see their families or if they want partake in the religious aspect of the holiday. Surely we don't need to shop 364 days per year? Trouble is with my protest nobody notices it.
Have a great Easter everyone, forget the diet and enjoy your hot cross buns and Easter eggs.
I was just about to write, and then I saw your post - they're not good for snowflake watching! Admittedly, we've not had much opportunity this Winter to partake, but it's difficult to see rain - they just don't cast a 'glow' around the lamp and there's not enough contrast. I worked in the lighting industry for 14 years and know the pros but I have to admit, I do miss the warm, orangey glow from the old sodium lamps - the new LEDs give a much colder, less welcoming feel to the streets. Just personal preference!
Weather wise, warmer than I expected this morning; 2 loads of washing done and on the line and some plants re-potted. Such a shame we have a cool, rainy Sunday to contend with now we have a few days off. http:////d321955.r.worldssl.net/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/sad.png
Happy Easter everyone!

Sadly the weather today isn't as lovely as it was yesterday, infact it's depressingly cloudy. Fingers crossed it brightens up later!
Happy Friday peeps
Great photos Snow Raven! I'm just down the road in Dartford where the cloud has broken and the sun is shining, so you should hopefully see something a bit more cheerful soon :-)
Sorry about the formatting here - looks like I've stolen your post and made it look like my own

Morning All,
Well, I survived my journey into London this morning, walking through the 'killer smog' as the sensationalist media publications are calling it.
Joking aside, I don't know if anyone working/living in London has noticed an odd smell in the air this morning? Kind of sulphuric in nature, but only a mild wiff of it (thank goodness!) If the Sahara smells of rotten eggs, I can't say I'd fancy a visit there
As for the weather, its cloudy (it could be sunny up past the smog!) and still very mild.
Yes! I thought I could smell gas when I stepped outside this morning (Orpington). Glad I'm not the only one.
Weatherwise, it's overcast. Was hoping for another glimpse of the sunshine before the weekend's rain but not convinced that#ll happen.

Landslip at Chelsfield so at present the main line between Sevenoaks and Orpington is blocked.
That's my station, thanks for the info. After a lull in the wind, it's getting breezy again now but nothing out of the ordinary yet.
-
another flicker
Every time you've reported a flicker, we've had one too at exactly the same time - about 150 miles away!
-
Well it's really starting to have really strong gusts here, a lot of debris blowing in the streets and getting stronger by the minute.
It's times like this when I wish I could install a weather station, but I am surrounded by buildings and so in a microclimate, but a blooming windy one right now!
(EDIT: My ears just popped as I was posting that )
Funny you should say that, I can feel quite a bit of pressure in my ears, it's so strange - they almost ache. 2 leaks tonight so far; one through the roof into the recently redecorated bedroom and the other one we've sourced to a blocked up chimney breast causing water to run down the bathroom wall, peeling off the lining paper. The wind is also forcing water into the porch, almost under the front door. This is the strongest wind I can remember here since October 2000.
-
Our cast iron door knocker is knocking on the (semi-sheltered) front door in the wind - we've lived in this house for over 10 years and I've never heard it do that before. I keep thinking we have unannounced visitors!

A nice big, low, long rumble of thunder here just now too - very unusual for December.
-
The squall has reached us at work in Dartford. Hail and what looks like small flakes of wet snow blowing in the wind. Lasted all of 3 minutes!
-
Two locations I see on here often make me wonder how they are pronounced: Lyminge and Meopham, anyone able to enlighten me?

-6.1 in Orpington and still drifting down, maybe -7 by daybreak. I wonder if I can eek out 2 consecutive ice days after topping out at -0.9 on Wednesday.
That's weird, my weather station is recording an overnight low of only (!) -4.1 - and I'm a few miles out of the town centre.
-
steve where abouts in greenhithe are you i am down the bottom near crossways
all i am seeing is rain at the moment
I'm in Crossways :-). Light rain most of the afternoon after about an hour of snow at lunchtime.
-
Anyone from Bromley on the forum? I understand it's snowing there as I type.
Nothing in Orpington
-
Definitely Optimistic in Orpington...
-
And we have very light snow beginning to fall here now..
-
Is it me, or is the snow in London glittering some how? It's like glitter is falling from the sky instead of snow lol
I thought the same! It's really glittery - seems quite icy as it settles, if that makes sense!

The storm reached here a few minutes ago - frequent thunder, not much lightning but the wind is howling!
