  1. NMM is a good run through this morning showers really pick up mid afternoon ( below) , just had a mooch through the Wales regional thread, some areas down there getting an utter pasting, sounds like our 2010 down there just now.

Wonder how far this feature will travel??

Well that pink line does look like it may encroach on Lochgelly so it could be white by the time I get home this afternoon. Very cold and dry this morning, -2.5 but very dry with litle or no white frost!
  2. I think the change in forecast for reduced snow just matches how up and down and back and forth the models have been the last two weeks, especialy when it comes down to the finer details. i still tink we will get some of the glorious white stuff this weekend and the cold does not look like going any where soon, so I am still happy!

  3. Stop all the horsing around, just burger off!

The NMM shows the front kissing Stranraer and leaving Scotland...loads of precip coming off the North Sea getting picked up though. Some people are going to end up hugely disappointed in the next 48 hours sad.png Some will be snowed in smile.png

Well you dont mince your words do you!
  4. The model thread has gone into overdrive with lots of 'game over' remarks and words of doom. makes it really hard for learners like myself when you hear first that you should not look at individual runs and then one bad run this morning and its all over. Its exciting, dont get me wrong, but was this cold spell always forecast to be short lived with a brief mild spell before a cold reload mid to late month onwards?

Lovely morning in Lochgelly, some light frost, crisp clear blue skys and a definite chill!

  5. A very reasoned view on this thread this morning (as usual) whilst the usual suspects are already walking the plank in the model thread.

Very dreich and dark once again here but should brighten up later on, and turn a little cooler.

There are a few I am afraid that jump from run to run and take each one as gospel whether it is good or not, cannot understand this especially when there are such fluctuations in even in the mid term.
  6. Our latitude is probably a good thing in the longer term though, especially when atlantic fronts start knocking on the door from the south. Most likely we're looking at some kind of easterly still for the weekend onwards and most likely remaining cold but whether we can get retrogression to Greenland or a strengthening of the Scandinavian ridge or some kind of messy Atlantic return for a time is hard to say. Still a massive deep cold signal for the end of the month though whatever happens after this coming cold spell.

I agree, the indications are looking stronger for a deeper more sustained cold period for the end of the month lets hope there are not too many down grades beforehand. I am always wary of where the PV ends up as it is so important as to whether we get deep cold or not. Fingers and everything else crossed we will be downloding more satelite photos of a white Britain before winters end.
  7. I'm gonna be at the Baltic Sea come Thursday for a few days, dare say I can kick-start the easterly flow in time to get a second bite of the cherry as it arrives heregood.gif

Just eat a skip full of Brussel Sprouts and face in the correct direction, bobs your uncle an easterly albeit with pinched noses lol
  8. The model thread is mayhem at the moment. I am a strict amature but even I can see that there is no accuacy beyond 72 hours at the moment! Really hope the easterly is a robust one if it comes although i think the coldest temps are set for further south. Here in Lochgelly we did well with easterlies in 2009/2010. Very wet and grey here at the moment, even cold sunshine would be a good change. Lampost watching would be ecellent though:)

  9. Hi T!

Didn't realise I had as close a neighbour on here! Great to see that thermometer finally getting below zero! Trying to follow the model thread but afraid I am getting too mixed up with my east and west movements of the block / front! I feel a radar/lampost weekend coming up!

just joined te forum a couple of weeks ago, two weather nuts in lochgelly, has to be an outlier lol It really is a back in time weekend, just stick your head out of the window and see what its doing, seems that it would probably be more accurate than the models. I think your right about the radar/ lampost weeknd. I have a lampost just over from my house and it will be the most watched lampost in Lochgelly. Good chance of snow middle of the month from the north, wll have to wait and see.....again!
