Don’t understand why you wouldn’t? Coldest T850 temps for sevral years lots of instability, strong flow over a warmer than average North Sea. There will be plenty of snow showers starting to push inland later tomorrow, Tuesday and early Wednesday at the least.

Just 9 hours until the truely cold air arrives! Snow showers starting in Ernest tomorrow, going to be some of the best snow for several years across the southeast Mon-Weds even before the potencail for disruptive snow Friday. Enjoy!!

These 2 charts never get a mention in the archives but the second one had the most fierce easterly ever..
its what happens when you spike the subtropical jet north out of spain against high pressure over greenland -

As I'm sure there will (hopefully) be plenty of posting of charts over the coming days. If you press and hold on the chart you can save the image rather than screen shots
Hopefully we can see a better interaction with the low to bring an easterly element into play!

I don't really post but have been watching the models for years and have seen enough near misses to realise how difficult it is to get really cold weather to the UK, as we have seen over the last 24-48 hrs small changes can have huge affects. One things for sure there will be more changes in the output, as per Steve Murr's excellent post if the low to the SW of Greenland does phase in our favor this may flip back if not we may be looking at another shot in a few weeks.
It's great to see Ian Ferguson giving an insight to the thoughts at MO. Any new comers just need to get to know the posters with the real knowledge and those that are waiting for a 'winters over' post or making ridiculous statements after a few frames of a run. A huge thanks to the more experienced posters over the years a lot of good posts and a lot to learn from them.
Certainly had much better winters over the last 4 years so maybe have been a little spoilt with cold prospects and blocking scenarios (even if last winter was poor still had 12cm snow fall IMBY in Feb)
I'm looking for the ECM to move towards UKMO if it doesn't and in the end get a disappointing cold zonal type that's just the weather and why we enjoy watching the model ouput and even those that don't still talk about the British weather!

Wow what a run from ECMWF deep cold being pushed down with a fantastic block, 2010 may have been a 1 in 100 year event but if that verifies has real potential to bring similar conditions. 24 hrs ago there were numerous posts re lack of cold uppers! Hopefully we can see more runs with similar potential!!

Had some heavier snow here in South Essex settling on grass, cars etc temp now down to 0.3°c. Should soon settle on pavements.
