Anyone have any idea what the nighttime temps maybe if there is lying/falling snow? Always here how it gets cold over snowfields but wondered if that applies if it’s still falling?
would still be bitter Friday night

As someone who lurks in here without commentating I find it increasingly frustrating with thise people who take great delight in trying to prove people wrong. I’m trying to learn and the mods do a fantastic job but when you’re wading through posts that become so negative I wonder why those people even bother. To get ‘kicks’ from seeing people disappointed is an incredibly immature approach to this in my opinion.
Sorry mods as I know this is off topic but trying make sense of what is being shown is hard enough to someone very new !

But do remember, it's all just for fun at this range.
Of course! Waiting patiently staring intermittently between radar and lamppost.

if we can keep the flow off shore, then we have a chance. if we see the centre of the low heading down across N Ireland into Wales we are getting wet, if it drifts down western Ireland we have a good chance of upgrades for the region. Roughly
Thanks, will be waiting patiently!

This thread might self combust if that slider slips further to the south and west! Half hour to go I reckon 50 minutes till we know whats going on Sunday......until the next run changes it again!!! Great we are having these south west moments and its only the 1st week of december!!!!
Out of interest as a lurker where would the sweet spot for the slider be to interest Devon/Somerset? Keep seeing talk of corrections SW so would be interesting to know what im looking for in the models

Graupel here in Exeter at the moment. Bit a shower

Been lurking and watching for a couple of years now and get frustrated around this time every year at both the weather and the carry on over in the MAD thread some days.
I'm about 250 yards west of the M5 so lamppost watching it is! Unless it shifts west a touch and stalls.....

It's good though as Devon and Cornwall haven't had enough rain these last few months.

Absolutely torrential rain in Exeter. Horrendous surface water. Met Office App showing light showers. Can't help thinking someone should put their head out of a window.

Snowing quite heavily in Exeter now.
-
Oh good more cold rain!

I'm a little confused for the timing of this sw event. Can anyone clear it up? Will it be tonight through tomorrow or Tuesday into Wednesday?

Hi Ian, would SE Wales be included in the yellow warning as the NAE has indicated the potential of heavy snow? Cheers.
It will be interesting to see where the yellow warning covers. I was within the 'Amber' area for Friday and no snow settled and had mostly freezing cold rain all day! It must be a nightmare to forecast due to the localised nature of settling snow in some areas.

GFS decays the second front a little, but still brings a narrow band of heavy PPN up from the SW;
And with the cold air still in place;
This would easily fall as snow, as shown below;
Remember, detail like positioning and intensity irrelevant at this stage. Just look for the trend of PPN being present.
That looks more like it!

I have lampposts front and back just for these situations!

Anyone know how large a town/city has to be to create an Urban Heat Island?
-
Slight donwgrade but looking reasonable. A fair amount of the snow has been wlak in or sledged down now so clearing a little now... There is still the odd sacred areas that people don't know!!
Is it not coming as far inland now?
-
Thanks for the replies. Hopefully it won't come down to a marginal situation and freezing cold rain again. If I only lived higher up!

Only posted a coupleof times previously but wanted an idea of potential Monday/Tuesday snowfall for Devon and Cornwall.
It was frustrating yesterday as I live in Exeter and everywhere around Exeter got significant snowfall. in fact there seemed to be a 'snow shield' with a 5 mile radius around the city despite Exeter falling into the Met Ofiice 'Amber' area!
With the cold creeping further west over the weekend what is the likelihood of the lower levels of Devon and Cornwall seeing something significant? Please no more freezing cold rain!!

Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Eastern side of Exeter just sleet. Exeter on the default setting for the year=wet. Anyone know if its due to pep up in the next couple of hours and cover everything in lovely white?

Light snow on the eastern side of Exeter

As we’ve just had about two hours of moderate snow in Exeter when rain had been shown is the cold being more stubborn to shift? Is the situation still regarded as marginal?
