Well done to everyone who has seen storms today. Some impressive rain and lightning totals too.I live just north of Derby and again have missed out on the action. Here are 2 charts with lightning strikes from 27th August and today, with the usual gap over Derby.Oh well I guess there's a slim chance for tomorrow!!.

Never seen the sky so dark to my Sw,the wind has picked up from nothing to a near gale.Still no thunder or lightning though!!.

Hair standing up like that is a sign that the ground is becoming positively charged and a strike could be imminent. It was certainly the right idea to make a run for it, to your car.
Back in the 90's, I was Baiter park in Poole, watching a storm with my sister, and that was the first and last time i've ever seen a streamer appear from the ground, literally 20ft in front of the car, shortly afterwards, a big stroke of lightning, luckily further away. There is a tragic photo online of 2 brothers standing together laughing with their hair standing on end on a mountain range somewhere. They were both oblivious to the danger they were in as seconds after the photo was taken they were struck by lightening and both died in hospital from their injuries. The cameraman survived.Just goes to show the dangers of Thunderstorms!?.

Well we've got biblical rain and gusty winds, just give me one flash of lightning and one crack of thunder that's all I ask.Cant believe how I have missed out on all the action!!.So,So close!!!.

I have my eyes on them too, although I am feeling very despondent about it all now and expect them to either die away as they approach or slide to the west of here. I just don't think this is the year for storms around Derby. May be different up in Chesterfield.
Well done to those further east though, at least our storm drought has ended.
Can't believe how dark it is to the south of here,it looks like the end of the world!!.Just 10 mins of steady rain here and that's it.We're so close!!.
-
Growing considerably darker here.Looking at the radar the first heavy showers are just to the south.Could be in a good location here for today's action.
-
Just watched the BBC weather forecast at work, and the words "intense thunderstorms " was used for the SW up through the midlands later this afternoon!!.We'll just have to wait and see.

To be honest it is not looking great at the moment is it?
Certainly not Supacell, this cloud isn't shifting at all, though it does feel more humid now than it did earlier.Been a pretty poor season here to be fair.Cant seeing it getting much better either.

Seems a lot cooler and fresher here now.We had a few big drops of rain around 7.45 but nothing since. So far everything seems to be the east of here.
-
Intense rain here for the last 15 mins but nothing electrical!!.

I took this photo around 2.30 over Derby as very dark clouds passed overhead. It rained heavily for around 5 mins. After looking closely I saw what thought could possibly the start of a funnel cloud. If you tilt your phones at certain angles see what you think. Then again it could be my eyes just playing games.

Moderate to heavy rain continues here.
It's been raining moderately here since 4pm,just like it has done for the last 3 days.Apart from 5 distant rumbles of thunder today and 3 yesterday this thundery spell of weather is more annoying than enjoyable..Is this huge blob of rain over the North Midlands ever going to shift!!!.
-
Which way are the storms moving?,can anyone help out?.
-
-
Just had a very surprising flash and sharp crack of thunder here, completely out of the blue!!.

Dark skies to the south, some sferics over Mansfield way but nothing here as of yet
It's been raining non stop here for the last two hours, but we've only had 4 rumbles of thunder.I can't make out which way the storms are moving as its been pitch black to the north of here for ages but it is neither coming or going!!.
-
Does anybody know which way the storms/showers are moving?!.If they are moving at all that is?!.
-
Torrential rain and 3 good claps of thunder here just north of Derby.
-
-
Biblical rain on the way to work just now, windscreen wipers couldn't cope.Very localised though.
-
Thunder all gone here now, just boring heavy rain!!.
-
Had a fair few distant rumbles here earlier but it's all gone quiet now.I seem to be in that hole just north of Derby.I hope to see something now that I have finished work. These storms are moving extremely slowly and look set to last well into the evening so should be time yet.
