  1. Temp -3c

    Wind calm

    Pressure 1010mb Steady

Cloud increasing from west - Mostly stratocumulus with some cirrus.

Looks like the front as forecast is slowly moving in - but with mostly thinnish lower cloud - it suggest it is fairly weak.

Best guess here is for a little sleet or freezing drizzle in a few hours - am I getting this wrong folks (new to this game!!)

  2. Thunderstorm with sleet and hail within the last 45 mins. Turning to wet snow.

Temporary covering of slush - but nearly all melted now.

Wind is NW gusting to 30kts and temperature has fallen to 1.8c

Still some big Cumulonimbus over Cheshire that can be seen in the moonlight between the snow showers - so maybe some more to come this evening.

This report is 25 mins late as the power was out during the storm.

Looks like the cold air has arrived here, maybe we might see some snow tomorrow.

  3. HERE IN SHEFFIELD THE SNOW LINE IS VERY LOW, SNOW RIGHT DOEN TO 60M ASL, IM AT 97M ASL AND WE HAVE APROX 1-2CM BUT WHERE I WORK, WHICH HAS BEEN SNOWED IN AT 300M ASL THERE IS A WAPPING 11CM!

SNOWED FROM 3PM TILL APPROX 9PM, WHAT A TREAT, CLEAR AND COLD CURRENTLY.

    nice one stuart.

I think the issue here is that my location is on a south facing slope of the peak district - later found that there is about 10cm lying snow at the 260m line just outside my village and some thin lying snow in north facing fields at about 130m line - looks like its all down to ground temperature at the time the snow started.

There has not been much melting today other than in direct sun.

  4. Only 4cm here - all from last nights snowfall.

    Obs at 8.00hrs

    Clear

    Wind NW 5kts

    Visibility over 30km

    Temp -4c

    Pressure 1012mb

Yesterday evening we had thawing of the lying snow even though temps were below zero ( ground "heat" as there has only been 1 significant frost here so far this autumn). What a pity - if all the snow had accumulated we would have about

    15cm.

Noticed this morning that the "snow line" is at 200m all land below that has no snow cover at all.
