Manchester airport roof has blown off , planes struggling to land in the uk
Where you getting the news from?
The Airport roof post wasn't entirely correct, it's part of the railway station roof, nothing to do with planes struggling to land. (Although they are struggling to land of course, but for entirely different reasons than a roof!)

You guys have any links for more information please, thanks.
Doesn't say 'State Of Emergency' but it does say 'Kilkenny County Council have declared a major emergency'. Probably the same thing.

I think this is fairly accurate assessment. An extra issue, though, is that the storm is hitting during a working day. Wednesday evening rush-hour looking really dangerous. The storm surely deserves the same media attention as the St Judes storm?
Seems the Express are more interested in Friday, naming the storm the 'Valentines Day Massacre'
Although reading above, it seems that the Friday/Saturday one is becoming more unlikely! The Express do it again.

James Madden is probably fictional, the whole thing is a set up by the daily express to sell more papers. Has anyone ever seen a picture of James Madden or even Jonathan Powell who is another person they like to name drop, I didn't think so.....
His Twitter account shows what is apparently him and a young child.
The same account provides some of the most hilarious internet activity ever, if you expand and read the replies to his tweets.

Just back from the saturday shop, weather throwing out practicaly everything ,wind ,hail ,rain, thunder, lightening !!!.
Got exactly the same here, but on the east. It's gone utterly mental out here.

When there is a clamour to put out the most sensationalist headline possible, details often get overlooked.

I don't think that the stronger winds could even be possible to looked forward at the next weekend just maybe weak than 70-80mph, is not a hurricane but this is proper a hurricane.
It wasn't a hurricane, never mind a proper one. Weren't you told to stop posting similar stuff the other night?

Well, have woken up to some interesting news this morning, seems it was quite bad for some.
Shame on anyone who criticised the Met Office, said they had called it wrong and claiming that this was a non event before it had even arrived. Shame on anyone criticising the rail companies for cancelling, with so many trees down on the network, you can only imagine the potential for some kind of accident if they hadn't.
And to think that this all came from nothing more than a minor 'disturbance' thousands of miles away. It still amazes me how they can predict such an event from something many would see as so inconspicuous.

Notice
The forum is going to go down for 1-2 minutes shortly - we have to add some power to the database to keep things running smoothly.
Apologies for any inconvenience - we didn't expect it to be quite as busy as it is...
Presumably erecting a new wind turbine, to take advantage?

I thought that the rain was always due to arrive around this time, with the stronger winds not to follow until around midnight?

Satellite imagery doesn't show much at the moment, but what we can't see is how the jet stream is going to interact.
Completely stupid question no doubt, but moving that imagery forward to the present time, is it the formation towards the top left that is going to form this storm?

It must be broken!

I've no idea what sort of totals we have here, but it ranks highly on the 'a lot' scale.
What I do know is that I ventured out earlier, it was steadily raining pretty much how it had been all day. The heavens then opened and I have seen nothing like it, waterfalls cascading from shop roofs and the build up was that much that it brought down around 40ft of heavy duty guttering at the local Asda shortly after I had gone inside. It was up when I went in and down when I came out!
-
Its proper lashing down now, bloody rain, plenty of snow flakes in the mix so its either turning one way or the other, wind isn't half starting to pick up, i also think the wind direction is changing now looking at the street lights anyway.
Where exactly is your "Teesside"?
-
Wind has now substantially increased and coupled with heavy snow, visibility has reduced dramatically, I can hardly see the street opposite. Does this count as a blizzard?
-
Light snow restarted again here after a break of an hour or so.
-
still chucking it down here, even my missus is taking an interest now, seems to be intensifying,
(from my earlier post, can somebody please tell me how to upload photos?)

Been on and off here for a couple of hours now, but starting to really pick up with some really heavy falls. Is this the early start of that "specific" amber warning? After all, it was due at 19:25 precisely?
-
Starting to get much heavier here now, with bigger flakes. Radar may suggest this could be the start of a long period.
-
How accurate is the hourly forecast on the Weather Channel? I hadn't checked for 24 hours or so, but it is now snowing some sort of snowfall every hour from 14:00 this afternoon right through until Sunday, which is as far as it goes.
-
The Met Office have removed the snow warning for Saturday and Sunday lmao
Thing is, they were there before yesterday and then were taken away before being reinstated. I'd bet money they will return, things are changing so fast at the moment.

landfall at Recdar.
Indeed, after some very feint flurries earlier, the heavier stuff has arrived.
