  1. Did you guys in Devon get the massive hailstones? Best thunderstorm in years!! Really impressive fork lightening, pink and blue!
  2. Woohoo a very loud rumble of thunder followed by very heavy rain, garden in now flooded!
  3. Ended up with nothing exciting yesterday in west Devon, had a few very heavy down pours which knocked the sky box out but apart from that, nothing! Some real heavy showers on and off this morning, though with blue sky in between, great for the grass in my paddock and hopefully my gardening jobs will pick up again! Lost a few hours of work during the heat wave! Met office predicting thunder storms this afternoon, hopefully this will come to fruition this time!! Super jealous of all of you further up. Any body have an idea if we are going to experience a warm up mid week? Or is it just looking like the south east?
  4. Lots of sharp and heavy showers currently, quite muggy and blustery too, noticed the met office are predicting a thunder storm in this area at around 7pm, fingers crossed! Hope it doesn't come early while I'm working, no fun poo picking an exposed field during a thunder storm!
  5. Currently pouring it down here on west Dartmoor, haven't heard any thunder though At least the yellow and wiltering grass in my field can finally have a soak! GROW MY BEAUTIES GROW!!
  6. I actually haven't seen a cloud for a week and a half now! It hasn't got lower day time wise than 24 degrees since the heatwave arrived, I live on the sheltered fringes of west Dartmoor and the air is just still! I work outside (I feel for anyone working outside in this heat especially if you work in a city). In two minds about the heat, loving the fact I'm near the beach and my skin is the darkest its been in years but the worst part is those horrible horse flies!! When I'm out working (freelance animal carer which involves lots of poo picking) I get around 8 of them taking in turns going in for the kill! Also has anyone's grass starting to die? I was getting all happy my paddock finally has grass since its been resting a month and now its all patchy and yellow Other than that, lovely weather we're having
  7. Currently snowing in west devon, started light a few hours and now getting a tad heavier with around 2cms settled. Weird that there's no participation on the radar where I am, nevermind!! Hoping that lovely bit of heavy stuff continues to drift west from Exeter!!
  8. I thought you knew where I lived? I live near Brentor, a mile from Lydford, I do live quite high up but for some reason this side of the moor is always rubbish for snow, though Brentor itself does very well. On Friday there was one foot drifts up there but IMBY we only had an inch. Weirdly down in Bridestowe there was nothing at all
  9. Where abouts in Devon are you? Still raining here and not as heavy, really thought I'd get snow here considering I'm quite high up, is very bitter here too, just hoping later it turns to snow, not sure of the chances though. Good luck to everyone further north you lucky things
  10. Heavy sleet/rain on west Dartmoor/west Devon this morning, now turning to rain and melting all the snow that fell last night, dew point is 1 degree. Everywhere is just full of ice and took me 10 mins to get out of my drive and on the way to the yard this morning I got stuck a few times! Hoping the dew points fall a little later on, temp is currently 2 degrees, looking towards Cornwall and it's white! Anyone in east cornwall got anything? Is it raining where you are?
  11. Lydford Gorge is literally my back garden and moorland my front garden, incredible place to live! And nothing better to explore it on horseback!! Is it still snowing down your way? Thunder has now stopped but snow still coming down heavily.
  12. Settling well now and getting heavy again, already have half an inch!! Thunder and lightening still present
  13. I'm up near Brentor, near Lydford. My OH works at Two Bridges and we both met while working for the Plume of Feathers! So know P-town relatively well, plus my OH had lived in Princetown all his life till he moved in with me. Anyway, seems to be dying out now out there, fingers crossed for a bit of it settling! Currently 0.5 degrees with a dew point of -1
  14. Thunder snow on west Dartmoor! Started with rain, then heavy sleet and now heavy snow with a big lightening flash and a roar of thunder as it went from sleet to snow. Dramatic!
  15. Now snowing on West Dartmoor, started off with a bit of drizzle, then sleet and now snow, even though its light. Winds really picked up and is currently around 2 degrees, lowering by half a degree every hour. Bring it on! !
  16. I'm in between Brentor and Lydford, been out sorting the horses out since 8am (when the snow started) so just starting to catch up now. I think with regarding Devon, elevation may be a major key in who sees the rain first or at all. I think if we don't see anything tomorrow, there's a great chance next week of potentially seeing some of the white stuff. I doubt those in Princetown will miss out! This is roughly when the snow is surposed to turn to rain but with the 850hPa uppers around -4 to -5 sitting close to Devon, all it takes is a small shift west and Devon might join in with the fun. I know with snow there are many parts of the jigsaw to comprehend but if we can get the cold in, the snow will follow. Will see what the 12z say tonight or probably best (and probably best for our blood pressure as well!) to just wait and see come Friday morning Hopefully I've got that right! Been lurking since August and been slowly teaching myself regarding reading the models and also trying my best to make sense of understanding the strat as well. On another note I'd like to thank everyone on Netweather for educating me and also realising what career path I should follow! Hoping to get a look about at the Met Office in Exeter next month and see what qualifications I need to join in the action!
  17. Been snowing here on west Dartmoor for the last 4 hours, rather light snow but sometimes getting a little heavier with lovely big snowflakes with a temp of 2.5 degrees. Didn't settle much IMBY but looking out onto the higher tors there is a covering. I think those of us who are situated on Dartmoor could be in for a great surprise tomorrow!
  18. Crossing my fingers for a bit of snow on Dartmoor this weekend! Though I think we were the only location in the far south west who have actually already had a bit of snow already this winter (though it didn't settle). If the models start agreeing on Friday on the cold weather setting in then better start stocking up! Nobody wants to run out of food and bakki when snowed in with over a foot of snow which happened in feb 09!
