Not sure if this is in the right place, but with regards to the models, are they organic, or are they rigidly programmed so that when for example A does something and B does something the outcome is always C?? which as we know doesn't always happen [sorry no specific example] or do they learn as they go along?
Thanks..delete if in wrong place mods.

Hi There,
Just wondering does anyone know what model XCWeather uses? As they are usually pretty good with wind speeds and directions, although often the weather they forecast on their 7 day outlook generally seems to occur a couple of days sooner than originally indicated? They are showing sustained Easterlies from Thursday onwards but with still relatively warm temps 4-8..is that due to the current temp of the North Sea?
Thanks S
please remove if in the wrong thread, just not sure where to put it..thanks

138 and 144 look impressive lol [well 108 onwards] and within a reasonable time frame??

Just looked at xcweather and they seem to have the storm tracking over France?? with nothing North of the South coast getting much at all...although clearly radar images show otherwise.

By the tim eI thought of going to Walcott the road would have been closed, so I didn't bother, good profile pic that.
As for tonight, I doubt if we'll see much before 05:00 tomorrow, we could start taking a pounding as it runs into the North Sea with the winds turning North Westerly (and still really strong at that point)
Thanks, will try get some others uploaded to my gallery, shot some great burst photography on the nights high tide, got the waves crashing in and breaking over the car, was beautiful to watch. Think I will indeed take a drive to the coast, shame the wind intensity looks set to coincide with low tide!! still can't have it all I guess lol

Was great in Cromer a couple of weeks ago, Huge Seas, BIG winds, SteveC (also a regular on this thread) got some good pics from the pier. I was a coward and got mine from up top :-)
Here's a link to my pics, I'll try to hunt out SteveC's
Will take a look thank you, If you take a look at my profile pic its one I snapped at Walcott, got some really good snaps down there, I went home and came back for the night time high tide and got myself a ring side seat before they blocked the road off lol.

Quite possibly. If the Southern coastal counties do go red, the East Coast counties to Suffolk (possibly Norfolk) may also go red later.
Interesting that Weybourne ( about 12 miles from home ) is getting gusts of 45 mph, my station here only getting to approx 20mph at the moment
That's interesting to know, I'm in Dereham, so will probably make that trek to the coast later on to see what it's like

Well, charged up all my fishing headlamps, found the candles, charged up all the laptop batteries in case need to keep the kids entertained during any possible power outages...Just can't decide whether to stay up, or sleep for a bit then get up and head to the coast to see if I can get some good photo's like a couple of weeks back when we had the storm surge!!

I would advise all people to buy the NW radar....As coast pointed out it is a very good toy and tool when coming to now casting..Updating every 5 Minutes and giving you the option to put overlays like wind vectors ETC. Please take 5-10 mins of your time to pay just £3.49 to buy it and test out for one month.
You even get a 7 day guaranteed money back promise if your not happy!
So what are you waiting for guys...
No one does radar like Net weather extra radar!
NW EXTRA! The future of radar

sunday
sunday
bitter east-north easterly wind
temps around freezing
now there is a trough over yarmouth so expect some
resonably heavy snow anywhere in the south east in the afternoon
i'm about 30 miles west of Yarmouth, am I in with a shout?

http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=snow;sess= tue15th 06:00 is there a geographical reason we keep seeing this circle over central Norfolk?
-
WIth a favourable wind direction ie from ENE for a thames streamer it produces a stream of snow showers that start in the thames estuary and spread to isle of wight widening as they go and giving very crazy accumalations of snow, got a foot before in one night, some people more.
Hmm if the poster refered to E.Anglia, and streamers are from the Thanes south, looking at the fax chart I'm confused now lol,so basically nothing for mid norfolk then?? lol
-
A lot of these charts I keep viewing seem to show Norfolk missing out on the snow for the most part...am I reading them right or am i just destined to miss the snow?
-
A decent snow event for much of the UK, Monday night. GFS again moving slowly towards the euros.
Band of snow moving through Monday night for many,
what direction is this band of snow likely to be moving, or will it be stalling where it meets the cold air? just asking from a purely selfish Norfolk point of view
-
Brilliant, low pressure system's exiting the eastern sea board of north america are now attempting to go up the western side of greenland!!
Serious upgrade here!!
newbie question...why is that a good thing if you don't mind me asking?
-
looks like Norfolk might dip out again, well apart from a brief spell mon poss tuesday.....my 4 daughters are pestering me now as they overheard me tell my other half we could be in for epic snow a few days ago....been persistent badgering since then lol
-
not for north Norfolk lol,..... although the BBC forecast showed snow for Sunday....time will tell I guess fingers crossed and curtains adjusted to see the street lamp lol
-
-
Try this for size then Sir:
Ohhh, suit you...
Ohhh Sir!! suits me....
-
Right, I've only flicked through a few GFS charts but snow is evedent on and off all weekend in parts of our region. Here's the best one (simple stuff) so far:
typical...last lot of runs I live right in a white line...this set I live in the middle of a bloody circle lol.....out of interest is that front moving east to west?
-
think the latest run shows the snow has tracked further north... Lincolnshire and north not sure if what I say is 100% right though, so fingers crossed
-
Could be quite a covering in places if this weekend pans out well...
there's always a blooming gap right across mid norfolk lol!!! well not always but a lot of the time lol

Thank you for that bit of info, I asked a similar question a few weeks back as to whether the models were organic and "learnt" as they went along and gained new information. I would have thought by now with they available computing power that a model would have been able to do this by now. Is this what GloSea5 does?
