can't believe it took pictures to show this - just watch the slightly different directions each one was going in earlier and follow them to how they're starting to go now....
Its going to be a good night by the looks of things. How you enjoying the conditions Gumbo? Horizontal snow in the face, i've lost count of the gritters that have been down sheff road today
and they still cant shift it, hoping it stays like this all night, or heavier would be better.
-
Noooooo it isn't sorry. The way the computer generated forecasts work is that if one part of the county has a warning then the computer takes it as been the whole county.
So you're saying that a 5day forecast for Penistone shows a warning for the E Yorks coast, if we're under a yellow warning then why put an amber next to it, surely the yellow would be in place. Theres both amber and yellow warnings for Yorkshire. So is the Heavy snow on the localized 5 dayer only for the Eyorks coast also but they just added that to Penistone?
On the main regional map it shows my area on the edge of the amber/yellow area, the second amber area is the E Yorks coast all the rest is yellow clearly marked with the yellow warning symbol. The overall Yorkshire and Humber warning has the Amber warning symbol as thats the highest but on the local Penistone why would they put amber if it was clearly in the yellow zone.
It really should be an amber warning for up here as its been heavy for hours now and conditions are serious, the main road through the village is covered with gritters constantly passing but cant clear it, the snow is horizontal from the wind and the METO have heavy snow forecast for 9pm even though its been heavy since this afternoon.
-
No, Its Amber for Yorkshire. However if you then click on the warning map, it shows you which areas are in amber warnings.
Go on the regionals, type in barnsley and you'll see the amber warning, same for sheffield. Its due too their forecast heavy snow
for 9pm tonight and 9am in the morning. I wouldn't of made the comment if there was no amber warning.
-
Oh what for area's haven't had email alert through yet.
Just had a look for Barnsley, and the same amber for snow.
-
Oh what for area's haven't had email alert through yet.
On the METO 5dayer for Penistone, yellow for icy roads and amber for snow, its only just gone on as it wasn't there an hour ago.
-
Amber warning now from the Meto from 9pm to 9am

I just messaged MetOffice on facebook and asked that question and they said to go with what my regional forecast says as they don't have control over the main bbc forecast?
so Look north has yorkshire under snow all night so im happy to go with that lol
Ha, i'll join you, sounds good enough to me.
Whats it like in Tarn? Its really picked up here since it got dark.
-
The front seems to be most intense along the coast so i certainly wouldn't mind being in Scarborough, Hull or Grimsby.
Judging by how heavy it is here, then looking at the radar, the East coast and N/E must be taking a serious hammering.
-
anyone else having trouble with raintoday website ?
Yep, its too laggy, its like going back 10yrs to the days of dial-up. Try this
-
Yeh BBC main forecast shows it fizzling out, look north shows us all night and said s yorkshire could see quite a bit, and radar dosent show this but met office now shows me for heavy snow at 7pm then again tomorrow morning at 6am but bbc main forecast didnt show this, confused with all these different forecasts!
Dont the BBC get all their info from the METO?
BBC weather never get it right for up here, never have done, their area forecasts are ok but localized are poor for winter, for here anyway.
-
This is EPIC the street light comes on and the snow gets heavier with bigger flakes. -3.0C.
The cars are going past very cautiously now, the gritters just cant clear the road.
A plough gritter has gone past, we dont see them often, 2010 was the last time. Probably going to attempt the impossible task of
keeping the Woodhead open.
-
Still heavy horizontal snow up here although small flakes, the gusty wind keeps blowing it at the window which looks amazing.
The gritters keep passing but the busy main road through the village is covered in icy slush with snow settling between the tyre tracks.
We seem to be surfing the wave of luck again with the darker radar patches constantly hitting us.
-
I like Adam, he's ace.
-
????.showed it mostly dry by morning on the bbc at 2-00
Its not the regional s/yorks forecast, i've been looking at the 5 day for Penistone when you click on the public tab and type in the location.
It seems to be more accurate than the area forecast and updates frequently. I dont know if it takes elevation etc into account but it gives different results
to Barnsley, Sheff, Huddersfield etc, even Denby Dale which is the next train stop from here a few miles away, it gives us heavy snow at 9pm and
Denby Dale light snow. It seems to be more localized.
-
Still heavy here, finer flakes that just seem to be blowing around everywhere, looks like thick smoke in the gusts.
Dark grey sky that looks full of it. -2.6C
-
METO changed our forecast for the 4th time today, now showing heavy snow at18:00 and 21:00, light snow through the night
and heavy snow at 06:00 and 09:00 Sat morning with a wind direction change to straight easterly.
-
Look at those real dark blues emerging on the radar just coming into Chesterfield, they have Penistown written allover them.
-
Where r u dude
In Penistone mate, 7 miles south/west of Barnsley
-
Steadily getting heavier now.Enjoy.
Its still coming down so its not just a quick heavy burst, amazing too with the gusting wind. Its covering the gritted main road.
-
Are you sure you will be warm enough???
-
Raintoday showing heavier precipitation forming to the south of me and moving nnw
Its hammering it down in Penistone and its heading your way.
-
WoWzers, i hope it keeps this up, horizontal heavy snow thats even settling on the main road thats turned orange from over gritting last night.
Now the flakes are getting chunkier, GET IN.
Good call Snow Blizzard, although you were 3 minutes off.
-
Its coming down nicely here now, temps dropped to -2.4C and looking blizzard like with the wind gusts. All we need now is 50p sized flakes and game on.
-
That fronts falling apart faster than Charlie Sheen.

They were gritting this aft, there was that much that the road looked orange but i've seen them loads of times not spreading when they leave the depo, especially in 2010. All they
seem to do is drop a big pile at the junction coming out of the depo then spread it elsewhere.
For once i was organised and went to Tesco yesterday and essentials were getting low then, apart from £6 snow shovels, the robbers cashing in.
If it keeps on like this the OH could have fun in the morning, although i saw the first plough gritter since 2010 go past earlier so if it gets too bad then the big guns
will be on it.
Just nipping out to Penny's, i may be some time.
