  1. I believe fine offset makes them and ecowitt is the outlet for them if you buy direct. they get rebranded a lot, have a google and you'll  find lots of similar stuff.

  2. does anybody know if its possible to add a second wind sensor array to the hp2551 console.

I was wondering if the ultrasonic wind package would work alongside the existing outdoor sensor array  giving two sets of wind speed readings on the console, i hope that make sense, thanks.

  3. I was sat here in lockdown baking hot and started to wonder, has there been any studies of solar cycles minimum and maximum and temperature records.

let me try and explain, is it a thing that every time we are in a solar minimum we get hot summers and every solar maximum cooler ones, I know it sounds backwards, but. take 1976 hot summer- solar minimum. any thoughts or useful links welcome. I then noticed that the cycle trend is decreasing, so fewer cooler summers? pushing up the average temperature I assume if I'm correct

Finally bought the HP3500 what a great piece of kit and thank you to Ecowitt. Only drawback as it went via Fedex I got hit with the inport Duty of £53.

Anyway there does not appear to be a for sale section on this forum but if you know anyone who wants a La Crosse WS2355 with cables and the WS 2300-25 temperature/ hygrometer unit for the price of postage of around £5 they can have it. The rain guage is dead and the anemometer came to a nasty end after falling 2 stories from the aerial after I dropped it off a scaffolding.

Does anyone know if the WH57 lightning detector can attach to the HP3500?

    Ecowitts website says it can

"When paired with a WeatherStation Console (HP2551/HP3500/HP3501):

·View lightning data in real-time on the Display

·Get alerted to lightning strikes with the flashing lightning icon"

Received my weather station, set up and has been working fine until this morning it randomly recorded a temp of -0.6c for an hour the actual temp was around 7c. Does anybody know if you can edit data to correct?

if you download the manual from ecowitts website that suggests it can be done, but maybe not individual records, but i've never tried it.

"While in History Record Mode, press key to popup the Message Box: “Clear the history record?” Press “Yes” to clear all history records saved on"

Thats a good point and also I agree, if you are going to add this sort of hardware to keep the sensor running in cold weather and stop it freezing up then there should be a built in mechanism for it to happen automatically and be controlled internally. I dont know how warm the heating plate gets, hopefully its just a gentle warming but next project then would be to work out some kind of alarm system that triggers when the plate is on and the temperature is above 0C.

you could just add an led or a small buzzer to the output wire so it's easy to tell when it's on or even off when it should be on.

  7. I have been looking for a more functional alternative to wunderground for a long time, so I'm open to suggestions as well, I have tried everything I can find with no luck so far, weathercloud met office wow etc.

There is an effort to get cumulusmx working with the gw1000 so that may change things if it succeeds.

  8. The console is very nice it shows all the data from all the sensors  wunderground does not show air pollution or soil moisture. ecowitts website dashbord is occasionally down or inaccessible it also went through a stage of having missing data but I never figured out if that was me or them. The mobile app is ok it works but looks plain it only shows wunderground data for the console and i have found no way to show historic data from the gw1000 yet.

So I think the console gives the widest options for data display and storage and it is totally under your control.

  9. there is also these two options but both give the same price problems. it is also Chinese new year holidays so you may get a long delay with Lucy.

Hi Mandrake I never said thank you for all the info. I dont seem to be getting notifications for responses.

Hi Richard sorry I cannot help you as I still am thinking about buying the HP2551. I tried to get the price down a bit as I can buy a MISOL version for considerable less but without the support etc. Unfortunately there was no moving on price, but I am back again to thinking of getting it from Ecowitt as Lucy was very helpful via email. May well be worth the extra just for the help alone.

if you go direct with Lucy don't forget about vat and duty, it can be a big bill

Nice. You didn't fancy backing the new version?

I don't know about the new version, they may be taking the p,  I'm still waiting for the original one to become available in the UK.

Does anybody know when or even if, either version will actually be for sale?

  12. There's nothing wrong with the davis logger but can I suggest this wifi logger as an alternative

    https://www.weatherstations.co.uk/new-wifi-logger-for-davis-stations.htm

    it's good to have choices.

There is also the Ecowitt stuff which is getting mixed revues and some issues ordering it but so far I have had no major problems it has a lot more options than the davis stuff and looks a whole lot more modern.

It looks like I have a faulty outdoor temp/humidity sensor now.

I'm not even going to bother accepting a replacement as I am not willing to pay for import fees any more.

My advice for anyone reading this thread, don't buy directly from Ecowitt.

I can appreciate your point of view you do seem to have had more than your fair share of issues and I agree the import fees can make this stuff expensive but I am still happy with the quality.

Until somebody starts stocking uk spec kit we are stuck with importing and all the problems that brings.

I have not had anymore problems with ecowitt than I have had with davis but time will tell if that stays true and ecowitts console display at least looks like it was made in this century.

After the soil sensor signal problem was reported here I started paying more attention to what mine were doing and sure enough I have the occasional signal drop as well.

Now I have two sensors connected to a gw1000 and what I have found so far is that it is the position or orientation of the sensor that causes the drop. the two sensors are about a meter apart either side of the poly tunnel

it is only one sensor suffering drops so I swapped them around making sure to replace them in the same spot same orientation and the other sensor started dropping so what I have concluded is it's not hardware in my case it is position even only a meter apart is making the difference between working or not.

I intend to test the way they are pointing next. hope this makes sense and maybe helps.

A further day of messing about with the soil sensors appears to suggest that with both sensors pointing in the same direction I get one sensor wiped out by the other, no signal at all.

This doesn't make a lot of sense to my head so I will investigate further.

A second point to note is that the eccowitt website shows holes in the data that a reboot of the gw1000 and a page refresh fixes, the missing data appears. whether that is a website or hardware issue is unclear.
