  1. After the soil sensor signal problem was reported here I started paying more attention to what mine were doing and sure enough I have the occasional signal drop as well.

Now I have two sensors connected to a gw1000 and what I have found so far is that it is the position or orientation of the sensor that causes the drop. the two sensors are about a meter apart either side of the poly tunnel

it is only one sensor suffering drops so I swapped them around making sure to replace them in the same spot same orientation and the other sensor started dropping so what I have concluded is it's not hardware in my case it is position even only a meter apart is making the difference between working or not.

I intend to test the way they are pointing next. hope this makes sense and maybe helps.

The nail in the coffin arrived this morning.. the fedex bill! It is over £50. I have essentially paid just shy of £60 for a set of bird spikes that went in the bin, and a temp/humidity sensor. Bargain!

that sounds wrong the import duties and vat are usually about 25% of the order total, but this was always the problem of importing.

    Nope.

I tried a little experimenting yesterday. I put the new console upstairs, where I want it. The soil moisture sensor doesn't even get detected. My GW-1000 is in the porch downstairs and is within 15 feet of the soil moisture sensor with no obstructions at all. You can physically see it. It has full signal, as does the old console which is within a foot of the GW-1000. I moved the soil sensor forward by 4 feet (still in view) The GW-1000 loses contact with it, the console upstairs now picks it up fine. I then rotated the soil sensor 180°, the GW-1000 now picks it up perfectly fine, but the new console upstairs loses all contact. I moved the new console back down to the porch, right next to the old console. It has zero signal from the soil sensor, but the old console has full signal.

If i'm honest, i'm bored of it all, now. I'm not sure what I am going to do yet, but I might just sell it all on eBay, because it's becoming a pain in the ass, especially waiting 6 1/2 weeks just to face more problems.

It's all very strange, Im with you on the ordering issue plus the import duties bug me, Amazon has spoilt us all.

What about a replacement soil sensor or put the same firmware on both consoles, just to test what happens

I won't be taking the battery out of the Davis ISS, that station overrules all other stations. Not only that, it doesn't explain why the old console works down in the porch and the fact that the new console is unable to pick up the soil moisture sensor whilst sat next to the old console that does.

how many soil sensors have you got?  I was just thinking if it's more than one is the console that shows little signal picking up a different sensor. it's all very strange

    Here we go:

New console is on the right with firmware 1.4.7. Old console on the left with 1.4.6

Soil moisture sensor is just 15ft away.

It annoys me having to put the console there as it's not a place that I spend any time in, but it's the only place I can get signal on all of the sensors. (apart from the new console)

so what version is the wifi firmware? my console lists hardware and wifi versions in the about section. it is interesting that the new console has a newer version than than I just downloaded.

My problem is with the console. The GW-1000 is downstairs close to the sensors as it interferes with my Davis console.

there was new firmware for the console as well as the gw1000. The possible interference is why I got the separate sensors and gw1000 on a different frequency so thanks for confirming I made the right choice.

wifi firmware is now 142 console firmware 146 as reported by the console

I cannot pick up the soil moisture sensor unless I am within 15/20ft without any obstructions. Jeez, over 6 weeks to wait for disappointment.

you are being very unlucky. I am not having any issues with soil sensors and the gw1000 mine go through several walls over about 10 to 15 meters.

I have just got a new firmware using the app that may be worth a try.

All of that time waiting for bird spikes and I've thrown the clips away. I have never known  such a faff for putting the clip around a rain gauge! First clip snapped and the second one wouldn't tighten up so I used pliers, and the second clip slipped off and tightened so I couldn't fit it over the funnel anymore.

You wouldn't recommend the bird spikes then, LOL. Where they part of your long delayed order, have you finally got a package?

My anemometer is around 50ft away from the house, with the temperature sensor, rain gauge and air quality monitors at about 20ft away. I've had full signal at all times (except when I had issues with the anemometer, however a update fixed that).

your console looks slightly different to all the others I've seen you have a slim bezel around yours.

I've just been moving my console around to look at the signal issues.. I have taken it upstairs and put it on a shelf pretty close to a window - in line of sight of all of the sensors, which as the crow flies, are about 40' away. Firstly, the router is just 5' away from the console and it doesn't even get full signal. The soil moisture sensor is the closest one, and that only shows 1 bar. The PM sensor is the next closest, that isn't even being picked up. The outdoor temp/humidity has no signal at all either. That's pretty damn poor!

I assume you have tried a reset and reconnect all the sensors if so I would say yours looks faulty and needs replacing, wont Lucy send a new console?

are you running anything else on that frequency could it be interference ? I once had an old weather station that still had batteries in in a junk box, it took me days to figure out it was that giving me signal issues with the station I was running.

Yeah I should email as well to be honest, but I cannot see a way for the data to be sent onto Ecowitt.net. But yes, live data is available on the sensor, but as Mapantz pointed out there's nothing for historical data and/or charts.

Ok I emailed Lucy who says

"The HP2551 can accept the following extra wifi sensors:
    8X WH31 Multi-channel T&R sensor
    1X WH51 Soil Moisture Sensor
    1X WH41 PM2.5 Sensor

And don't need the GW1000 to upload to the ecowitt.net."

Please let us know your thought.

    Best Regards,
    Lucy

I don't know if the console sends the extra data or not as I don't have it connected to WiFi.

It certainly doesn't have graphs for soil moisture or PM 2.5.

have you got the app on your phone (wsview on android), does that show the extra data?

while I am on the subject of data upload is ecowitt the only website that supports the extra sensors data.

wunderground and weathercloud  don't appear to.

Correct my if I'm wrong, but for upload to Ecowitt.net I think you need the GW1000 with the extra sensors. I currently have the moisture and air quality sensors, they show up on the console but not online.

    Hope that helps!

I was just trying to figure out how everything meshes together. so your extra sensors talk direct to the console but that doesn't then upload the extra data.

I think that's sorted now but I find it strange the console wont upload all the data it has. That may be another email to support I bet that could be corrected with a firmware update.

  13. Hi all, I gave up waiting for this to come into stock anywhere and ordered one direct through Lucy.

It arrived just fine but took a week to dispatch and a week to get here but no customs charges or vat yet (fingers crossed) it's all set up and working no problems so far.

Now the question to the folks who ordered the extra sensors, does the console talk direct to the sensors or the GW1000 gateway or maybe even syncing with the ecowitt website and getting the extra data that way,

    does anybody know? thanks.
