  1. Glad to hear people are getting some decent snow today, hope you enjoy! (although here in Liverpool I aint! ha).

This is slightly changing the subject but I find it crazy that the Met office and BBC weather forecasts are so different for the potential snow on Thur/Fri! I know the BBC data now comes from a different source so slight differences are to be expected. However anyone watching the BBC forecast on TV for my location will be expecting heavy snow Thur night and into Friday! Whereas Met office are having none of it! What model are the BBC using now?

Here in Liverpool we had some decent (for us) snow yesterday from the "polar low". This was forecast quite well by the Met office (including their app) but the BBC said it would be further south. This leads me to think I may be trusting the Met forecasts more in future which is a shame as I always had quite a lot of faith in the BBC forecasts previously, unlike some, and liked their TV graphics. The new ones are far too vague especially for snow!

So what are peoples thoughts on the potential for snow Thur/Fri/Sat?

  2. You do not need a Hubble telescope to find cold potential. However we must look towards Mid November the morning GFS shows what we need to look, for the pesky euro high to dissipate and loosen east with southerly tracking lows indicative of a southerly tracking jet. Also note virtually all the chunks/lobes of PV are on Eurasia side on other side it is actually more susceptible to a block be that a Mid Atlantic block or Greenland high of some form - we are very fortunate how this euro high will eventually relent not diminishing our winter cold chances. I think there are reasons for Coldies to be overall quite cheery, expect more eye-candy in the coming days and weeks. I think we could be on course for a cold start to winter, contrary to what others are saying.

Very basic question from an amateur soor but where do you get the charts in the post above from? Ive tried numerous times on the meteociel website but cant find them!

  3. Hi, been a long time reader of this forum. Thanks for all the insight and opinions. If this pattern change is coming in New year how soon do you think any snow will follow based on the models? Flying on 2nd Jan and had three flights cancelled over past 3 years due to snow, seriously im the most unlucky flyer ever!

I know this is very difficult to say this far out but any opinions would be appreciated

  4. Just been on the beer run for the football and the main roads are getting bad, not sure if they've been gritted today, perhaps due to all the surface water of melting snow it's been washed away?

But certainly coming down heavy albeit smallish flakes and really unpleasant with the strong wind driving the snow.

Accumulations building now on all surfaces and like I said including the major roads.

Same here in Liverpool. Ive just drove from north to south Liverpool and the roads are pretty bad now. Cant see the lines on most, even the main ones. Dont envy the gritters tonight!

  5. Didn't you do well in December 2010 with all the streamers off the sea when the wind backed west?

Yeah sorry, it was after Dec 2010 that got me interested in this forum, so when I say ive followed it for a while I understand its nothing compared to most others.

Plus Dec 2010 was a night mare for me as I needed to get to Heathrow for a flight to Thailand right in the thick of the bad weather. The one time I didnt want it to snow, and it was the worst in living memory!

Tomorrow Im doing nothing so bring it on! ha (Ive just jinxed it havent I)
