  1. LOL people have been so caught up with saturdays event, nobody checked the radar before going to bed, thankfully ive got the day off tomorrow. Nice line of ppn coming in from the wash and pushing far inland, an unexpected snowfall for some midland members tomorrow i think.
  2. Saw both a bee and a butterfly today, unless my eyes are deceiving me  Just browsing the charts though and some tasty cold is being projected for early next month, if it verifies (a big if) it could be abit of a shock to those creatures that prematurely come out of there winter slumber. It would be sods law though, zilch in terms of snow and cold since new year then a bitter cold spell just as everyone gets that spring feeling.
  3. A few pics of the epic shower i just had, bare in mind last nights snow had practically all but gone when the shower hit.
  4. woooooooooooow absolutely epic snow shower right now huge flakes coming at a rate of knots, instant covering up to a 1cm already
  5. The strange thing about today is even though its been bucketing it down for a couple of hours or so now its very wet stuff, with only a dusting of snow about, it really is'nt topping up at all atm. Really need the temperture to drop abit more. I actually got more snow cover from a 40 minute snow shower last week than i have outside atm even though todays snow has been more intense and longer lasting so far.
  6. Well its been all snow here since the front arrived about 12.30pm, But struggled to settle even during some heavier bursts. In the last half hour its started to really come down thick, 50p sized flakes, some of the heaviest snow ive seen and its started to settle quite redily due to the pure intensity of the stuff, amazing.
  7. On a personal note in terms of snowfall, this cold spell was better than feb 09 where my highest totals were 4 inches. I reckon ive just topped that at 5 inches at sometime during the last week, 1996 was better where we had 6-7 inches and 1990-91 was better still with 9 inches perhaps more. I can never remember the snow hanging around quite this long before though with 8 days of lying snow and counting, very impressive. My memory of 1990-91 is abit hazy only have photos to go by and hazy memories of playing in the snow as a kid but that snowfall easily eclipses anything ive had since with snow drifting up the cars and walls etc. In terms of tempertures and the length of the cold spell its been very impressive, but I still have'nt experienced that epic snowfall ive been waiting for on a personal level since 1990-91 even with the synoptics the uk has seen over the last few weeks, so in that regard im slightly disapointed. Still various areas up and down the country have been pushing the magical 12 inch mark and smashing it over the last few weeks so it has been a very impressive cold spell for the country on the whole. Im actually taking my first snowboarding trip for a week in the south of france on saturday so im likely to see snowfall like ive never seen before in my lifetime, but it still wont be as good as seeing epic snowfall totals outside your backdoor.
  8. well ive lost 5cm today and gained a dusting from tonights snow. Which is now melting as im in a dry slot northeast of birmingham, not been a good day for me here
  9. plenty of stuff falling from the sky here today, one minute its raining, then i look out and its big fat flakes, then back to sleet, then snow, then rain. Lost about half my snow cover so far its lterally changes every 5 minutes.
  10. Got about 7 cm here, currently just on the northern edge of the snow (hinckley, north east of birmingham) shame the front has'nt pushed any further north or else we would be looking at 8 inches plus, quite annoying, cant complain to much with what we have already though. Been quite lucky today ,its not stopped for hours although we have'nt tapped into the really heavy stuff, light snow coupled with the odd moderate to heavy burst has given us a decent covering. Still snowing
  11. quite lucky here just catching the northern extent of the band north east of birmingham, coming down quite heavy atm. Wont last long though.
  12. its looking great for us in the snow starved midlands. But personally im not ramping it up till i see the stuff falling from the sky, been let down too many times over the past few weeks, i just hope come tommorow morning people aint seraching for the prozac again. It does look good though but i just wont believe it till i see it
  13. yet again nothing more than a dusting for parts of leicestershire. Im becoming very downbeat about any snow prospects this winter. Things always look good up until a few hours away. Its either not cold enough for snow or its cold enough but theres no ppn about or the models predict a few cm,s then it fiizles out as it gets here. Im sorry ive tryed to stay positive recently but im beginning to think our lucks not going to change this winter despite the great synoptics. A piece of advice never trust the gfs percipitation forcasts at all during these cold spells, its absolutely useless. light sleet falling here , o joy
  14. Been pretty rubbish here, started as rain turned to sleet, snow, sleet then back to rain no covering here atm. Still waiting for my first covering of the winter, only mangaged a slight dusting during the pre xmas cold snap.
  15. Seriously some members from leicestershire in particular have been so unlucky during this cold spell, friday a stream of showers came in from the east and looped under leicestershire and the birmingham area. Saturday nights northerly fizzled out when it got here, yesterday a stream of showers came in from the west over the top of leicester missing by a few miles, and now today's front is the latest episode. Its disapointing to miss out on one occasion, but to miss out on 4 different occasions since last friday by a mere few miles everytime is a series kick in the teeth.
  16. This happens alot during these northerly situations, ive witnessed it many times. It would be sods law if it did. The majority of people posting in this midlands thread have seen the odd flurry or sweet bugger all. For an easterly, although short lived, this has been a very poor cold spell in terms of snow so far for the majority of the midlands. Things may well change for our region over the coming days with a bit of luck. I feel for those people that have been following this cold spell for a couple of weeks and have been disapointed so far it can be quite frustrating. More eastern regions have done very well from this cold spell, but for the majority of the country its been poor in terms of snowfall. More northern and western areas look like they will get there snow saturday night. Im not overly optimistic for our region though epecially the way things have been going so far.
  17. do you actually know why they tend to fizzle out ? You'd think they would drive inland considering the wind direction
  18. snow just hit hinckley south west of leicester. Looks like i could get on the end of this stream coming in off the north sea before it pushes south. Happy days
  19. Absolutely rubbish here, started as snow then turned to ice pellets for the last hour or so currently an icey patchy dusting here, places like rugby, market harborough and leicester ( a few miles south east and north east of here) had a couple of cm's. Still cant complain had a good few snow events here recently so dont feel to bad about missing out here this time.
  20. ive noticed this to. Earlier the cloud was coming in an almost easterly direction, 5 minutes later it was coming from the north now like you say theres cloud moving in from the south, meeting right over the top of my house. Strange sight.
  21. Do you think it will turn sleety here like in the southeast or do you think we are far enough north for it to stay as snow ?
  22. Had a good few cm's from last night/mornings snow, abit of a lull in the early afternoon and now its teething it down with snow again . I hope this keeps tracking more westwards as it drifts further north could be in for a good few hours of this stuff.
