Hi all, just like to say the depth of knowledge many have on here when trying to interpret the models I find astounding. Think a large number of you have missed your vocation and should have been doing this for a living. Anyhow I'd like to wish one and all a happy and healthy new year and hope the weather god's are kind this coming year

Yes, another fantastic GEM. Is there any chance it has got the upcoming pattern nailed?

These threads have been dead since they split them. Hard to follow anything.
Really bad idea but if members consistently post in wrong thread then this is the result.

Models have been so volatile it'll be nice just to see the pub run follow suite

The "sudden" refers to the rapid warming of the Stratosphere, it can jump 40/50/60c in a matter of days
Ok , understand now. Many thanks.

Hi All, quite new to this and trying to learn but there's something I don't understand. The models are predicting a SSW for just after Xmas. So why the sudden if it's being predicted 2weeks ahead.

Insolation?
The red line is roughly suitable for the UK. Of course the actual Watts hitting the surface will depend on cloud cover.

Hi Yarmy,we're currently going into solar minimum.Does that also have any effect on the figures given on the diagram above?

Still some disagreement between GFS, ECM & UKMO perhaps? Many people (including myself) have noticed this temperature difference from various parts of the U.K. & Ireland. UKMO continues to be "less cold" than the others
I'm wondering could this be caused because UKMO show temps in towns and cities and therefore have an urban heat effect whereas the other models don't. Or am I completely wrong on that.

The control runs at the same res throughout - the other 19 members drop resolution after T192. The op is high res till day 10 and lower thereafter - I have a funny feeling it drops to the same level as the control at that point
This may seem a daft question (I'm still but a novice at this) but why aren't all members just run at high Resolution.

Hi everybody. This is my first time posting so please don't be to critical of me. As a newbie i am reading this forum and trying to learn and improve my knowledge but the constant bickering and winding up by those who sit on opposite sides of the mild -cold spectrum is not only annoying and frustrating but also confusing for those like me who become members on here to learn. There's nothing wrong with a bit of banter but some take it way to far. I'm sorry that my first post has had a somewhat negative perspective on what is a brilliant forum from which so much can be learnt.
