light snow started here.

Just caught up on this thread and again wish thank all the contributers, particularly C and NSSC.
A really interesting subject and the informative posts from you guys help me understand a little more.
Great stuff--keep it up.

All over here now, getting sleet at times now. Worst predicted snow event for here ever...im very dissapointed.
Hi Blizzards,
Yes so you keep saying.
There are probably others disappointed too but don`t post everytime they are on a downer.
Cheer up--it`s only weather we can`t do anything about it.

It stopped snowing in Nuneaton before 9am, but has just started again.
Hi Steve,
Good to see someone else from Nuneaton, welcome aboard.
We`ve done ok for Snow this week i reckon.
I have been out for a walk earlier around Chapel End,Bucks Hill area, some photos below.
Lovely stuff.I still enjoy this weather even though i am in my mature years.

For those in the West Midlands that are worried that they won't see snow.. Trust me it's on it's way and it's heavy. West Midlands looks set for some heavy snowfall in the next 2-3 hours, maybe blizzard like conditions.
Lets not jump the gun guys and assume things, the PPN is right on track for the West Midlands and Central Midlands and it looks moderate to heavy.
Hi Andy,
You stayed up then?
Yes looking at radar Percipitation getting more extensive and could cover quite a lot of the Midlands with Snow.
Chaos in the morning as councils round here only gritting main routes due to shortage--ridiculous!
-
Sorry for spoiling the mood but i would just like to ask a question!
On the beeb forecast its got snow pushing up from the south but then it pushes really north and leaves birmingham northwards dry-so i take it that is the milder air? So birmingham northwards could experience a small thaw before the low tracks back south again?
Or will it not travel that far north and Birmingham and surrounding areas will still be left in the colder air before the LP pushes south again?
Sorry im just a bit confused by the forecast and would like to know a bit more detail!
Thanks!
Hi A.S,
How i read it was the area of Snow arrives from the South in the early hrs. and continues until around mid day.
It seems to dry out from the South for a while and then i think starts again later in the day,but not for long,as the colder air pushes it back south.
No mention of sleet/rain.
At this stage any percipitation will be dying down and by the time it gets to the S.E. it will only give a dusting i guess.
Hope this helps.

Taken around Lunchtime today.
Hartshill Hayes Country Park-1 mile from home
One of the field to the rear of my house.
Quality not great-taken on my mobile phone.
-
The northwest snow shield will be in operation and Thursday and Friday for clearing out.
In all seriousness I would absolutely love to see 20-30cm dumped on central UK, that would be an amazing sight.
Mmmm,
Cheers Stephen,I love Snow but that would be too much for me B) .
Certainly one to watch as we count down the hrs. as i am certainly located in the Highest risk area but a small difference in the track of the low might shift the risk.

Will add my last post to here!
On my drive back from work at lunchtime today, I can report I passed 6 gritters which is quite bizarre given the snow has thawed more or less in warks.
I guess it is in anticipation of ice tonight or is there something else on the way?
Hi Serendipity,
Yes the main roads are good here now in the North Of the County.
Still a good 5cms lying off road here though, see these
The first 4 are around Hartshill Hayes Country Park-a mile from my house and the last one is the field behind our house.
All taken at around 12.30-1pm today.Excuse qualitity -taken on my mobile.
-
Leicestershire is getting pasted now, heavy snow falling now and it's not hard to see why
Currently about 7-8cm on Grass and 5-6cm on pavements.
Hi Andy,
Yes it`s quite a day.I have about 5cms and snowing steadily again.
That heavier band just to your east i wonder if that will come this way.
-
Radar shows interesting developments over the near continent: see link and run sequence:
Yes and a closer look shows a Thames Streamer coming i think.
-
I'm glad they managed to get the names back at the bottom of the thread, otherwise it feels like you're talking to yourself! :winky: I really hope people enjoy the snow and make the most of it , it maybe many years again before an event such as this might happen.
Hi Nick,
I Just popped in from the Midlands thread.
Hope you are well and enjoy by proxy our Snow.
It looks as if this could be a bigger event than first thought for many.
I am even getting snow already from a Wash streamer deep in the heart of the Midlands.
According to latest BBC forecasts this could be a Snowy week, with tommorow looking tasty for many.
-
Yes it`s been trying for a couple of hrs and now seems to be pepping up.
It`s looking very good for more according to this
http://www.meteox.com/h.aspx?r=&jaar=-...;soort=satradar
Like a large Wash streamer.

Summary of Countyfile Forecast for the Midlands
Snow showers today and am tommorow, then later tommorow and night and area of snow moving North as it comes from France.
Still cold after-no mention of rain, but dryer for Tues/weds with max 2-3c.
More snow showed on graphics for Thurs. and Friday.
Looks the most wintry week i have seen on c,file for a long time.
Hope it`s close to being correct.
-
PL the radar looks awesome for both of us I am so surprised to see the showers like that already!!! I hadn't bothered to look at the radar all morning as I thought the showers wouldn't start here till around 3pm at the earliest and there is light showers heading towards Leicester and they are not far away and it's just about midday
Loads more showers on the radar than I expected.
Hi Andy,
I noticed the showers just coming in to the east of you,so should get some flurries soon.
I am right in the centre of the midlands so not sure whether i am on the right thread, but as i am east of brum i plumped for here for now.
A good c,file f,cast for the midlands generally for the coming week --did you see it?
-
8cms here i guess.
-
I will go for 3.3C please.
-
Yes just to add welcome back Nick, glad you and yours came through ok.
-
Evening,
Just driven back from Salzburg. Saw no snow cover on lowland Europe including Englandand much of Germany. Never seen that before in the end of January. Plenty in the Alps above 1000m . Nothing on the plains. Weird.
C
Coincidently C i just posted NH snowcover map in the Cold and Snow thread.
Here it is again
Apart from W Europe that you mention, generally across the globe there`s plenty of snow elsewhere.
Typical of recent Winters here i guess.
When we had cold surface temps. we had dry Anticyclonic conditions.
Perhaps our turn will come in February.
-
Yes Nick S feared he would be offline today when he posted last night as he was looking for latest information on the storm track.
Glad to hear he has been in contact earlier.
I am sure we all look forward to his next postings.

Hi Phil,
Yes, that's an interesting news clip from Jan 1987 freeze
I doubt we will ever see the like again in Kent, bloody global warming!
Yes that was probably the coldest week here since those winter months of 62/63.
If i remember correctly some -15c upper air temps reached the SE for a while.
-
January 1987 was probably my best recent memory of really severe wintry weather here in SE England
We had several days of Easterlies where the temperature didn't rise above -3c and at night lows of -10c
Also a level 14" of powdery snow with drifts in exposed area's several feet deep, absolutely fantastic!
I've still got the BBC farmers forecast on video with John Ketley when he starts the forecast with "the only bright thing about this forecast is my tie" I only wish I knew how to get it uploaded onto You Tube?
Hi Snowblizzard,
I managed to find this on that Cold spell
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=srOC7pg9UAU
That`s the only vid i could find.
I guess you have the same problem as Steve M with your film of 1987 with it recorded on Video?
-
My knowledge of sw is practicly nil but it would seem no matter what they are repercussions are likely on some major scale.
Yes Rollo i am with you, lot`s to learn about this.
What a fascinating thread though great job C and Tamara--keep up the great postings.
