  1. First post on this forum for some time, the weather for me has been getting me down and rather miserable, moving on from my own thoughts and behaviour though and it really is shocking at how wet it has been. From what I read though, it sounds like this could be the new norm as the climate change slowly creates a warmer and DAMP atmosphere.

What I really worry about it the eco system and out food growth, I am a lorry driver and its shocking to see just how long so many fields have sat under water. rivers have burst there banks and simply stayed burst. Even part of the A14 near Newmarket has almost been fully closed off for a couple of weeks due to flooding and bad drainage, only there struggling to empty and fix due to yet more rain. Farmers are really struggling this year, they couldn't get all the fields drilled when the rain arrived late last year and now its time to be planting them with spring crops, still cant get in. I have drove past freshly ploughed fields that look so odd, rather than the usual neat ploughed lines, just looks like a field of sloppy manure/mud.

The looking for anything cold is hilarious and non existent, the modelling thread is a joke and all the forecasting seems to be as bad as I can ever remember.

The country really could do with a solid month of no rain minimum.

  2. Part of my fence is down. Wind is really howling out there. We are exposed on a hill.

I think this can make a huge difference, some people reporting a lower wind speed, I'd imagine you may be tucked away and sheltered but could be roaring away tens of feet above.

It’s winter here in the UK.

A storm can be a storm without being historic.

A cold spell can be a cold spell without being historic - as we have just seen.

Would it benefit us to return to a time when forecasts were forecasts without hype?

Agree with this on many occasions, not so much for todays events! Yes it may not be completely historic but it may be up there with the top ten. The sheer widespread of this storm and the longevity is what is a cause for concern.

Did anyone see the wavey looking lines between clouds at about 4:30-5pm today about 15 minutes before the storms arrived. those lines were very fine and plentyful. I didnt have my phone to take pics at the time.

Never seen anything like it. Cloud all around so no blue sky but fine wavy lines amoungst the cloud.

Yes I noticed it, very odd was like high haze, but under the elevated storms.

  5. Just over a week ago I was getting worried about the dreadful forecast for the Royal International air tattoo. Rightly so I was convinced it was too soon to get to worried, and now we are a few days off in the slightly more reliable time frame.

Saturday the 15th is the date I and three friends will be attending, with the forecast showing a heavy mix of sunshine and showers.

Anyone more knowledgeable able to interpretate the forecast and models for that Saturday so I can have better understanding of what to expect.

The biggest worry is longevity of low thick cloud followed by persistent rain as appose to showers.

Could really do with my mind putting at ease.

    Thanks guys/gals.

I am attending that on the Sunday ! Do you wear ear defenders / protection for the air show ?

Nah I have gotten use to it, in fact louder the better as long as I don't break my ears lol.

As a kid I had to cover my ears from thunder, airplanes, trains and fireworks as was so scared lmao.

Edit: if its your first air show then maybe take some just in case.
