Hi I think most of us have been clued to Fox news, i know i have, ive been up since about 4.30 watching the eye come in. its starting to get light there now so will have a better idear of damage ect. Dont forget they havent had the storm surge yet. And have tornado warrnings out for much of the area. Still cat 2/3.

They are actually Very good conditions for surfing (before the storm comes) Light winds will make the waves clean. 3-4FT surf is hitting the coastline at the moment. If it wasnt for the police there would be hundreds of surfers out there!!!

Hi having just come back from a brill weekend of surfing i have to agree there is no reason why they shouldnt be surfing the conditions are brill, but yes if they are there tomorow then they are bonkers but at the mo its safe. If you could see what some of the blokes/woman surf this is not that bad.

Hi just looked at some satilite pics of rita and i couldnt make out an eye is this good or bad? could someone let me know please. I think i know the answer but for the sake of looking like a compleat twit would like someone to tell me ta very much

Hi Sorry i did lmao when i read your post. I think the thing is we have 2 hats we have our weather one and our compasionate one. but the second comes after the first. We all love extreem weather thats why we are on here, of course we want to see it develop into a beast, it gives us something to chat about. but none of us like to see the terrible devistation in NO. So come on peps be honest and get a SH.

They are saying that it is only the lining that has come off the superdome and the structure is still ok but it is leaking a bit of water.

Has anyone seen this fox news reporter in Gulfport. He is having a hard time standing up, you can really see how the wind has picked up in the last hour, the windows in the hotel are smashing and there are things flying threw the air. And again its not reached there yet.

Fox is reporting 105 mph winds now in NO. power is now out and in the French area roof tops are being blown off. Also it is still about 1to 2hours away.

Hurricane Katrina set to hit UK appearently, it says this on niw
"we are currently watching Hurricane Katrina as it heads north, Katrina looks to head towards the UK and there is a strong chance that the UK could see very high winds and extermely heavy rain, further updates will appear here"
will it hit the uk like irene did.

Hi hurricane center has just said that it has reached landfall east of grand isle winds are near 150

I think the Louisiana Superdome (Go Saints!) was designed as a geodesic dome to stand up to hurricane force winds. It's being used as one of the emergency shelters.

the only prob with that is that it has never been tested. and 1000's of people are standing in line to get in they are not sure they will all fit.

yeah i have just heard they are closing the bridges. Also a good point was made by the weather team on fox she asked how the roof of the supeer bowl was going to be able to withstand the sort of winds expected. And have you seen all the tall buildings.. eeek they have said that all the windows will blow out. this is truly amazing, i just hope the buildings will be able to withstand a cat 5.

Yes your right we are very lucky to sit at home safe watching this, but none of us are watching this hoping to see people hurt or loose their lives I am watching this because i am in awe of this storm, i have never seen anything like it.

This is the weird thing. I hope knowone dies but I would like to see what a cat5 can do. It's just a spectacle to see what nature can throw at us. Anyone else want it to stay a cat 5?

hi yes i do the bigger the better. Cant help to wonder what it will do. I know if there could be a poss of loss of life, but if they heed all the warnings they should be ok. but for me its all about what Mother nature can throw at us.
