Surrey - completely understand your concerns re the rising Thames.......hope it stabilises before too much further flooding damage is caused. Believe me, if I had a magic wand - the first thing I would do is ensure no-one ever would have floodwater inside their home. Also sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly - there really is a nasty virus going around - see below.
JennieJane - I hope your recovery speeds up now. and glad you got treated in time ...you have been in my thoughts lots since you first posted your condition. I have had a very painful viral chest infection for >12 weeks now and if it weren't for the fact I insisted on a chest Xray in mid december as a direct result of your post, I too would now be sitting in A & E.

Oh dear...not quite sure exactly how to respond to today's weather events...I clearly have divided loyalties......
I'm pleased to escape the new bout of convective "cloudbursts" given my position next to a flash flood watercourse that quite frankly can;t take anymore.However despite all the recent electrical activity that has favoured the SE inc Middlesex and London, I'm still a member of NSC...
Think this should be my microclimate siggie tune....

I can confirm it's a "tad" chilly!Just driven back from Leatherhead party to East Grinstead n the early hours and car thermometer was reading -3 before I even got onto my drive...which is normally -1 lower than road temperatures.
Heating just been switched back on to ensure the piggies don't have cold paws tonight...xxxx

the biggest thing at present for me is the much dryer outlook
that has to be a big bonus to anyone suffering from floods anywhere in the uk

Evening/morning all
Travelled up and back the M1 today taking a certain guest and their cat back home.
Having set off from here at 10.45am, I can confirm no rain until coming back south between East Mids airport and just south of Northampton - approx 16.0-17.30. (+/- 50% - Won;t be exact about timings as don;t want to incriminate myself in terms of speed
) It was not biblical - but it was persistent and sufficient to reduce visibility somewhat!Would it be too blasphemous to say that I'd like a break for the next 7days please and
a) the only frozen stuff I want is the ice cubes in my freezer for the V & T
the only wet stuff i want in my house currently is the V & T and perhaps some nice french dry whites?

Spoke to EA earlier - they said they are holding off putting us on flood warning again tonight until there is more certainty on exactly where this will land. Earlier on today, the feeling was it would be mostly up the Channel....however if it comes further north which is now looking more likely .........
So I'm relying on all you lovely ladies and gentlemen of this forum to keep the updates and predictions going over the coming hours - you're so accurate with direction and timings I normally get a two hour jump on the EA warnings.

Flash-flood Stream still on flood warning from yesterday...but now whole Medway headwaters catchment are also on updated warning as of tonight.
We were very lucky yesterday as the worst skirted us by(a guinea pig whisker)12 miles and dumped both north and south......It would appear there really isa goda local shield here!!!
However, I can't see a continuing flood threat tomorrow myself from the forecast and models you lovely people have provided given my local area dyamics .
There is not enough rain forecast..although a potential may exist......so Am I missing something?... as to date the EA/MetOffice warnings for our area have been absolutely spot on and in agreement with what has been posted here.
xxxEdit: the NetWeather Forumites timings to the nearest hour for inclement weather over these last 14 days in my area have quite frankly been spot on/a godsend and really impressive

It's been so quiet here today - after a lovely mackerel sky this morning it's been overcast but little rain/wind.....almost like the land was waiting for something.
EA have just rung to say expect very heavy rain between 4am and 9am which could cause problems for smaller "flash" watercourses like mine.
Off to move the car to higher ground.....it's the early warning system for the neighbours!

Oh no - Really sad to hear Regionnaires are now getting leaks.....commiserations to all of you affected
Any water entry/damage sucks....and you will obviously need to ensure your insurance company "perform properly" in re-instating the loss....which believe me
a) can be frustrating,
take oodles of time, andc) if not handled with the appropriate knowledge.....based on hindsight I hasten to say.... might cost you personally a fortune like it did me.
I don;t know if this is the appropriate forum but I am willing to share my "with hindsight knowledge" about how to keep your insurance claim "on track" and "working for you".PM me if you want a chat.
.....Errrm would you mind waiting until tomorrow please as I am celebrating my Xmas and NewYear tonight, having finally got rid of winds, rain, flood, rubbish and water company contractors that have been incessant since 23rd Dec.
My Xmas tree lights are now switched on....I am looking forward to enjoying them tonight whilst watching a Sky+ Sherlock before they are taken down tomorrow.xxx

To anyone-Quick question wanted to ask earlier don't mind feeling stupid asking this but how safe is the reservoirs from over topping their banks?? am I right in thinking it is not going to get high enough as is drained off somewhere as the rains fill them up? could here the water hitting the sides on Friday only heard this once in Dec when sounded like a small boat bashing the banks during the storm! sounds like the water is high up there!
It's a very good question and one that has concerned me over the years and specifically this Xmas as my local reservoir was 100% full on 26th Dec

Obviously many of the larger reservoirs are managed/owned by the water companies but there are also private reservoirs too.
From what I understand about how my local one works, and obviously this is just from a layman's perspective, Reservoirs usually have some type of controlled discharge scheme into the surrounding water courses for when they get full. Any plans to discharge need to be done in consultation with the EA in order to ensure minimal impact on any existing or potential flooding from the already-challenged local rivers...or in order for appropriate flood warnings to be sent out to residents downstream. We do not get any public notification from our water company about any plans to discharge so I assume it is the EA who manage that via the flood warning system if appropriate
Reservoirs,specifically raised reservoirs where there is the potential to hold water above the level of all adjoining land, are governed by the Reservoir Act 1975 much of which is concentrating on "uncontrolled" release including via over-topping either through rising levels or "waves"......and this Act is now enforced by the EA
The link below is a pdf I found referring to a consultation regarding recent amendments to be made to the Act and is quite informative.
And this weather is clearly challenging reservoirs - Just after Xmas my local EA officer asked if they could return my call later as "a private reservoir was failing and that had to take priority"
Hope this helps - I will ask the water company about this when I meet with them to discuss the recent fiasco regarding my failed sewage pumping station.

OH WOW - WHAT A DAY!
The pumping station is now working...(contractor no 20!) .....the flood door has been adjusted.........the stream is STILL in bank......the roof is intact...and so are my trees and fences.
Although a bit disappointed the Forest Row shield prevented us experiencing the hail/T & L events that other regionnaires north and south of us had today....I am very happy to retain my membership of NSC2014 for a few weeks longer in exchange for all the above! We did get the rain and we did get the gusts as the squalls went through...highest recorded on a local station today was 57km/hr. I felt very sorry for the chaps next door trying to put a new roof on my neighbour's conservatory
Hope everyone else continues to stay safe, warm and dry and that those who have been impacted by the severE weather this festive break are starting to get back to normal.

Contractor no 16 who is on all night monitoring duty is now safely inside for the night having been fed a roast lamb dinner....parts confirmed as arriving to be fitted tomorrow by contractor no 17 (who turned up at 9pm today and finally accepted warranty responsibility)!Stay safe allxxxx

This was contractor no 11 who finally got picked up by his mate at 6am this morning. (Contractors nos 9 and 10 having appeared and disappeared yesterday lunchtime without saying a word about was was going on)
Today contractors nos .12, 13 and 14 have arrived and left.....but we are finally making progress
I have succeeded where 14 sets of contractors have failed. I have managed to identify the make and model of the pumping installation and printed out circuit diagrams and technical manuals for contractor no 15 - two lads currently on site. They have not only brought their own ladder with them, but think they have identified the problem
If we are lucky they may be able to get the parts from a distributor I have found locally and fit them later tonight....Otherwise they will have to be here all through the night and will fit the parts tomorrow.
Furthermore the flood door manufacturers are back at work today and have agreed to send someone down tomorrow to see if they can stop the rain coming in
Now we are on the way to getting everything fixed and watertight, this run of awful wet weather must be about to stop
Will be thinking of everyone as the next lot hits us tonight and hope jo public is sensible about watching the seas from a safe distance.

I have not had one night/day without weather-related interruption since 23rd Dec.
I'm very tired..,....and so is Numpty my poor house-guest.
Between us we have been doing split shifts throughout the holiday break to keep the house, the neighbors, the piggies, Tiggy thye cat, and the contractors safe and sewage/flood-free from this weather.

Evening everyone
As others have already commented, this really is a lovely Board with such wonderful and lovely people.
Coast - thanks for the headsup on the after 6pm rain timings - it meant I could make my trip to Farnham late pm without any anxiety about what might happen here in my absence. Drove through some torrential rain......but arrived back here to find all calm with a few cloudbursts and a well-behaved stream.
Radio 2 Simon Mayo drive-time record theme tonight was very appropriate re the confusion over the weather - so selections included ELO Confusion, Diana Ross Upside Down etc....
From some of the observations/news on here recently, as a tongue in cheek, I thought I'd add one more to the mix for your entertainment tonight.......(obviously lyrics don't apply to our SE Regionnaires Board!).
