  1. I read the DM and Guardian online somtimes. Like reading the comments. Is the Pole Vortex Split likely? I saw someone mention it earlier but no one picked up on it. I'm guessing that would make things colder, because of the jet stream? Sorry I'm still new to this, but learning slowly.
  2. I smelt winter coming the other day. May be crazy, but perhaps trees give off a slight scent as they prepare for frost. In mild winters I did not smell anything beforehand.
  3. Press would not hire someone if they were honest. If someone gave honest weather forecast, they would be asked to spice it up, failing that would be replaced. I know it easy to blame the likes of Madden. But you can't expect him to lose his job, simply to give real forecasts. I wonder if some of them have hidden meanings? Like the colder your saying its going to be, what you mean is the milder its going to be and vice versa. So a really cold Winter forecast Headline would go something like "Brits bracing for Indian Winter as Holiday makers plan to rush UK Beaches on Christmas day."
  4. Considering no one puts chains on their cars during heavy snow, instead relying on snow trucks to salt the roads. It's no wonder anything with a bit of snow is considered devastating. If a mini ice age began, everyone would have to learn to ski to work and breed some huskies. Would be nice. Salt on the roads looks disgusting. A mucky muddy mess that poisons trees near to roads. Roads look so nice not gritted and perfectly safe with snow chains. Here gritted roads also give a false sense of security, with people driving like they would on a summers day.
  5. Now I am mad. He promised us glaciers forming in the UK this winter, a month ago.
  6. Walton-On-Naze hit 69.1. I was watching it since I got up as its the nearest to me. http://www.waltonfrintonlifeboat.co.uk/live-weather
  7. Quiet windy in Jaywick Essex. Wind 55. Gusts 70 Luckily nothing serious damaged so far for me. Touch Wood Feels a bit like putting home through a wind tunnel. It is timber framed so always a worry.
  8. Windy here in Jaywick. Looking at the Walton and Frinton site you posted. Woken up by dogs. Was meant to get up at 7:00.
  9. Hi. I've just joined but been mostly reading the Winter thread and this Storm thread in the Last couple of days. I am 1 min walk from Beach in Jaywick, Essex. Wondering what to expect. I'm guessing wind about 60mph at about 6AM. It will coincide with High Tide. Will probably be asleep, but dogs will wake me if anything in house or garden is breaking I guess.
