  1. The ad is extremely patronising and illustrates totally how climate science has been, in many ways, hijacked by politicians. It really isn't about Labour or Conservatives, it's about the official debate on AGW being totally open, transparent and not subject to censorship, and at the moment there is a political consensus that the science of AGW is 'settled' in favour of it being true, that the debate is over and it's time to start hammering this message into children. While the change from fossil fuels to renewable energy may well be an honourable, urgent and neccessary aim, the arguments for it could just as easily be built on eventual fuel depletion, less foreign energy reliance etc. without having to distort or exaggerate the truth.

    Very good post

  2. There are plenty of Tory papers full of paranoid lies every day.

But you still have the sun news paper... Oops, hold on, tough on crime and the causes of crime.... education education education, weapons of mass " distraction" a classic that one. The good ole sun paper has ditched wrong labour. Not to mention immigration

  3. First time I've seen a Tory 'love in' in this sub forum...

Erm, can we stick to the science please? Can we thus stop attacking GB the man and instead (if you so feel moved) attack what he said? Is that too much to ask? Is it too much to ask for people to listen to what he said rather than simply shoot from the hip? Seems so...

    No, No, Yes, Yes. :)

  4. Very true. But it's alright for GB saying do this and do that on one hand, then effectively giving folk two grand to buy one of those nasty polluting cars, for example! Well y'know me TWS,I think 'they' should leave climate out of it altogether as I really believe most folk aren't buying it anymore. The sooner they tell it like it is,the better. I do think most folk have sussed it actually, and like me are going about their daily lives with a growing sense of unease. I also think that the vast, vast majority of folk live within their means and wonder what the hell he's talking about when we're told to 'act'. Whether by choice or circumstance I feel most people aren't in a position to reduce their 'carbon footprint' (jeez I hate that phrase!) much further. As for 'acting' it's not me,you,or anyone on NW who can authorise construction of nuclear plants. C'mon Gordon - 'act'!

Indeed, when im waiting at the bus stop, its dark, bloody cold, its hissing down,im thinking am i going to be late for work, the mortgage is due in 5 days... Oh yes my carbon yeti print, nothing else matters :yahoo:

  5. It seems to me that global warming is a little "over-hyped" by governments to help control societies they govern. It never hurts to have a population fear something so that the governments can wield a sort of power over them (and they can charge extra taxes in the name of something that may not truthfully be happening). I'm in the camp that suggests it's a little far fetched to believe that the industrial revolution (the last 200 years or so only) is solely to blame for a shift in our climate. I believe there are much larger forces around eg. the sun, which has and will vary our climate (some scientists believe that right now we are about to enter a cooler phase of climate in the next 20 to 30 years due to lower solar activity). Considering that the earth has been around for millions of years and the climate has shifted from cool to hot etc. - volcanoes have thrown out smoke etc to cause the world's temp to go up and then down - the sun's solar activity varies the climate - these larger forces seem to me to be the more important forces to cause this so called "problem" (which really are natural cycles in the earth's evolution). I'm not saying that man hasn't had an "effect" (MILLIONS OF YEARS without man - 200 years of industrial evolution - you've got to put things in perspective), but I don't think it warrants the activities and taxes governments are levying on our society.

A well put rational post ;)

  6. The Netweather long range forecast has just been updated, looking ahead to the remainder of Autumn and into Winter (and we've had a much better record than the Meto this year don't forget :) )

Interesting , they have millions invested in their super computers etc... and NW trumps them , perhaps some of the money could be pushed your way with your smaller super computers :)

  7. oK then, we shall capture all our carbon burps and try to store them under our beds... in the mean time china is opening a coal fired power station at the rate of ............. 1 a weak, so our little 0.000000001% contribution is ..............

So any eco warriors i suggest you go to china or india or......... Because our little islands make little diff to any climate change
