  5. Tornado reported in RoscommonReports this afternoon of a small tornado in Co. Roscommon, as stormy weather conditions continue to affect the country. More than 10,000 homes across the West and South are without power this lunchtime, most of them are in Cork and Kerry where a red weather warning is in force. Met Éireann has issued three weather warnings covering all Irish counties. They are warning of a flooding risk in coastal areas from high seas and heavy rainfall.   9. Humm so my thinking was right sting jets can happen multiple times within one storm depression, I seen this image here and I'm now watching sat24.com and it seems to be building up another.

  13. Status red wind warning for Cork and Kerry Met Éireann has issued a status red wind warning, the highest level, for counties Cork and Kerry. The warning came into effect at 6am and is valid until 3pm. Stormy conditions and high seas are expected, with damaging winds gusting up to a 160km/h, especially in exposed coastal areas. A status orange weather warning has been issued for counties Wexford, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Limerick and Waterford. Stormy weather and winds gusting up to 130km/h are expected in the region for a time later today. A status yellow wind warning is in place for counties Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo and Tipperary. Extremely windy weather is expected in those counties, with winds gusting up to 110km/h. Gerald Fleming of Met Éireann told RTÉ's Morning Ireland that the storm was building in the south. It is also expected to be very cold today, particularly in Ulster, with snow falling in some places. Kerry County Council Communications Officer Padraig Corkery said the council is "as ready as they can be". Mr Corkery said the council had been dealing with coastal flooding since St Stephen's Day and was now preparing for flooding from extra rainfall. He said some drains may still be blocked since the last storm. Mr Corkery said there was a "huge amount of sandbags" around the county and members of the public could collect "empty sandbags" from its offices around the county.   15. Don't forget to add the New Moon into this effect this coming 14th Friday. It would be good to know of any effects that could happen, I'm no wave expert so more info would be great if anybody can share.
  16. That could happen at any random moment 3 hrs or 6hrs before hand, I've seen red warnings issued while an event was happening....to late the damage was already done, but saying that this happened seven years ago when Dublin was flooded by summer Thunderstorms.

  18. Meanwhile in Ireland.... Cars abandoned in Donegal following heavy snowfall Cars have been abandoned in Co Donegal after heavy snowfall caused dangerous road conditions. Met Éireann has warned of strong winds on the south and southwest coasts, while a status orange snow and ice warning remains in place for Co Donegal. A status orange wind warning is in place for counties Wexford, Galway, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford, where Met Éireann says westerly winds will reach mean speeds of 70km/h to 80km/h, with gusts of up to 130km/h. The warning for Donegal indicates snow accumulations of 3-6cm are possible. Donegal County Council has deployed 23 gritting trucks, however the local authority is warning that ice-free roads can not be guaranteed. Vehicles have been abandoned on the Back of Errigal Road between Glenveagh National Park and Dunlewey and there have been minor accidents in Stranorlar, Letterkenny and on the Lifford to Letterkenny road. A yellow alert is in place for Connacht and counties Cavan, Longford, Monaghan and Westmeath. Cold, wintry weather is expected with occasional heavy hail, sleet and snow showers likely. Snow accumulations of up to 3cm are possible, especially on higher ground. Meanwhile, a senior engineer with Clare County Council has said that damaged tourist areas of the county must be repaired without delay. Tom Tiernan said significant repairs must be made to up to 40 sites across the county. His comments come after the council stated that the cost of repairing the damage done by recent storms could be €35m. "There are a total of 40 sites containing public infrastructure along the coast of Clare, from Galway Bay and up into the Shannon Estuary. "There are several key locations that are a key component to the tourist industry, which is a cornerstone of the economy of Co Clare. "Not just Lahinch, but areas like Kilkee, Spanish Point, New Quay, Liscannor and Loop Head peninsula." Elsewhere, Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin has said the Government has decided to give €500,000 to the St Vincent De Paul society and a further €500,000 to the Irish Red Cross so that they will have as many vehicles as possible to distribute relief. He said the next phase will be to get full oversight of the damage to infrastructure around the country.   19. Met Éireann forecasts further stormy conditions Met Éireann has forecast storm force winds and heavy and prolonged showers this morning. It has issued a Status Orange weather warning for Munster along with counties Wexford and Galway - with winds gusting up to 130km an hour. AA Roadwatch has reported some flooding in counties Offaly and Tipperary. A Status Yellow weather warning is in place for counties Dublin, Louth, Wicklow and Meath. The National Co-ordination Group, which is tasked with responding to severe weather conditions, has warned that heavy rainfall could lead to more flooding in places where rivers are already swollen. Due to the adverse weather, Irish ferries has cancelled its swift sailings to and from Holyhead. All intending passengers will be accommodated on the cruise ferry sailings. Stena Line has also cancelled its Dublin to Holyhead sailings today as well as it's 12.30pm Rosslare to Fishguard sailing.
