37.3 London area on Thursday
can’t see the all time record being broken but I reckon July record will be!

Question, do I stay in Brighton or head towards beachy head?

This is my thinking. I would be peeing myself in excitement if I was in Brighton right now!
I am in Brighton and can confirm I am peeing myself in excitement. Heading to the beach shortly!

Brighton seems to be the storm capital of the UK these days, so I would go there if I was chasing.
You think so? I suppose we haven't done too badly this year so far, nothing of much significance so far though. We haven't had anything big down here since the whole July 2014 event and I was away for that!

If I were to have an excursion out this afternoon, does anyone have any recommendations of vantage points in the North Downs which I could head towards?
-
Wow! T + L still going here along with light/ moderate rain, at one point had 3 bolts of forked lightning within a few seconds of each other in completely different directions...spoilt for choice

Not expecting much tbh.
Too much high cloud.
But any thunder is better than no thunder at all.
True, there does seem to be a lot around...on sat looks like it could clear soon though, fingers crossed....

Oh Em Gee. I just heard Thunder.
Same, I think most of it must be quite elevated. Although the two cells really aren't far away I haven't hear much yet.
-
Distant thunder heard from the channel cells. I have a great view, but not directly south unfortunately!
-
I can see distant flashes every 30 seconds or so from the channel cell, with the tower lighting up an unusual shade of orange with each flash.

Does anyone have an insight as to if that storm in Belgium will make it across the channel this evening?
I was about to ask what the chances were of us Southeasterners catching an import this evening and overnight. I've heard rumours, but not sure what the actual chances are like.

Some very convective cloudscapes down on the south coast, pushing in from the SW. Had a hail shower so far today but no thunder as of yet...feeling hopeful though
-
A few storms out in the channel this morning - Doesn't look like they'll get inland too much. Anyone from Brighton --> Hastings hear any rumbles from these yet?
Yes distant rumbles every so often and we have also had 3 loud rumbles of thunder as well from strikes closer by

Flashes and distant rumbles every 5-10 seconds here....much more frequent than blitz says!
-
We have blue sky! With low level crud whizzing past from the North East
same here

Well it's been an exciting morning so far down on the south coast....the intense thunderstorm moved in just as I was collecting my results. People were unable to submit remarks because a whole building was inacessible due to flooding, unfortunately I didn't get any pictures
Here's to hoping for more of the same later on!
EDIT: The sun has now come out and it's feeling warm and very humid
-
Well, it seems there advantages to being awake all night with a grumpy baby! radar looking very impressive, blitzortung lighting up like a Christmas tree too... Bet that south Coast view is good tonight, anyone down there with a camera? Think, it'll be a little while before we see anything, hopefully it'll make up for the lack of visibility for the meteor shower....
I am down near the coast but the view from my house is rather obstructed to the south, can normally see distant flashes but nothing at the moment...it's a shame because I would normally be on the sea front but with results day tomorrow that may not be a good idea!

Well a slightly depressing evening....teased by about 5 decent cg strikes around 11pm and then only distant flashes after that! If only that Bournemouth storm had been 100miles further east :')
-
Wow!!!
This was my first attempt at photographing lightning as well! I would recommend the app iLightningCam on the App Store as it takes the photo when it detects the Lightning meaning you can just be lazy and sit back

i don't quite understand the meaning of the black outline on here even after reading the info, could you elaborate for me, is this between MDT and SVR?
I think the moderate is for the overall storm risk whereas the black line is signalling where IF thunderstorms were to occur they are more likely to be severe....or at least that was my understanding of it.

Does anyone have advice for a good view point accessible from east London for later tonight? Happy to drive out the city but ideally not all the way to the coast
