  1. well its still a continual blizzard up on the hills of Oldham & Saddleworth... several

inches now since 07:00, but is quite deceptive due to the drifting. Some pics just

taken within the past few hours below

Identical to what we've got here, just on the Yorkshire side of the Pennines about 10 miles east of you. Some nice drifting as well, and very little melt as yet (I guess the ground is that much colder up here - I do love living at a decent altitude sometimes !).

  2. Well that was an unexpected bonus. A couple of hours of heavy prolonged showers, drama on the M62, about 4-5 cms laying, everything all white and crisp and lovely, frost tonight so it'll still be there tomorrow for some proper sledging. All in all a thoroughly decent afternoon that's left me feeling a whole lot more positive about this cold spell than I was this morning ! It's amazing what a few hours of (admittedly on/off) heavy snow can do for your spirits !

And with a little bit of luck the 'front that no-one wants to mention' may deliver a bit more Saturday night/Sunday morning !

  3. my first post (couldn't resist too excited)

snowing very heavy for last 30mins here in bradford

    roads, paths, roofs all covered

THIS WAS NOT FORECAST AT ALL!

Yeah, drove through what can only be described as a proper blizzard over the M62, but soon cleared once I got past Bradford, so it was only a very heavy prolonged shower really, but was exciting while it lasted.

  4. I remember that vividly as probably the best snow event I've ever been in. Grew up in a little village in mid-Wales (Ysbytty Ystwyth - about twelve miles up in the hills behind Aberystwyth). It blew a blizzard for about 36 hours, and by the time it had finished every road was full to the tops of the (high) hedges so naturally we were cut off. Not much actually settled on the fields as it was all blown off. I seem to remember it took about five days to actually clear a path through wide enough to allow traffic, using a JCB ! It was quite strange then being driven along what felt like a snow tunnel, with passing places dug out every so often. Didn't get back to school in Aberystwyth for two whole marvellous weeks as the school bus just never came ! It stayed for a while as well, but I do remember that the huge piles of cleared snow took many weeks to finally melt away.
