    I'm lucky enough to not feel the cold at all .. but do sweat buckets in the heat, as a few have mentioned it's the type of heat I think and the situation you find your self in, I was lucky enough to do a cruise around the Med from Southampton last Summer and I thought it was 'hot' on the way through the Bay of Biscay but waking up in Gibraltar after 2 days at sea the doors opened and the real heat hit you it took your breath away but over the 2 weeks my body 'adapted' some how and I stopped sweating buckets and the heat became more than bearable ... then the trip back across the Bay of Biscay was chilly ;)

    As for the Tube ... spent a week on business down in London and although a regular visitor I've never experienced it has hot/uncomfortable, nothing like having a twenty year old girls hairy armpit in your face on the Northern Line smelling like a tin of deodorant was just a distant memory ;) ... You would have thought some clever bod can think of an energy efficient way of cooling the carriages down .. like all solutions it will be about cost !

    MMmm interesting debate however, it takes around 10minutes to put back into a battery what you take out at startup, plus at this time of year with lights, heated front and rear screens, heaters fans it is a significant drain on battery power and repeated stop starts have a significant effect on battery levels. But that said a good trip of say 30 minutes or more in a modern car does recharge most batteries to a near normal capacity.

    The starting from cold and driving off depends how you view maintenance costs, even with modern synthetic oils a turbocharged car will benefit greatly from a short idle period before pulling off and you can significantly extend the life of the turbo by idling for some 2 or so minutes before shutting off the engine as this allows the oil to cool the bearings around the turbo.

    Wow what a fascinating discussion ..

    Just to add my pennies worth ;)

    Are we alone in the vastness .. probably not it's just far too big the odds must be in favor of some form of life ... but the question has to be will it be intelligent life as we know it, the depths of the Pacific ocean show that life can cling on ( <_< Klingon) in the harshest of places .. IMHO the first signs of life will be microorganisms on one of the many moons in our own solar system feeding off methane or something, then we will come along and as usual have a total disregard and will either exploit it or destroy it in a quest for knowledge. :doh:

    But what really intrigues me is when we were dragging lumps of stone from Wales to the South of England and stacking them up elsewhere (Egypt/S.America)they were building huge complex mathematical structures that if we are led to believe were as accurate as we could do some 2000 years later. It does really make you think how they could design such complex structures without 'external' help. Some of the ancient images of chariots in the sky's and people with helmets are really fascinating.

    Finally for the techies amongst us .. I was at a Cisco training event a few years ago and the Cisco training guy made a passing comment which has stuck with me ... " When the Starship Enterprise meets a new race for the first time ... how come the protocols used for the comms link are the same ?" <_<

    Funnel cloud near Hinkley

    As promised the footage of a short lived funnel cloud descending from a mean looking storm. I was standing just East of Hinkley so i'd estimate this funnel was somewhere about 7-8 miles NE of Hinkley.

    Yeah I live in Atherstone which is West of Hinkley and I saw LOTS of instability on the leading edge around 15:20-25, very fast moving clouds spinning but no funnel, great vid mate !

    I work from home 2 or perhaps 3 days a week but I have to fit it around a day or 2 in my office in Ipswich (290m) or Derby (75m), no guessing public transport is a non-starter for both but I do hire a smaller (greener?) car for the trip down to Ipswich and save the Impreza for the trips to Derby :)

    Interesting reading .. we have a couple of low nrg in the garden and the rest are 12v LEDs, indoors is a different issue, all the upstairs bulbs (except the bathroom) are on dimmer switches so stuck with 60w ... :):) Downstairs it's down to looks and until they make cute low energy they ain't gonna wash as they look ugly and over sized in small shades .. unless someone can recommend any real small ones :)

    Hi all,

    This is a shot taken last Summer from Hartland Point, North Devon, stormy day with frequent heavy showers and anyone who's been will know the cliffs are quite high and we had to keep running to the car with a lot of lightning around :unsure: . I took this because it pretty well summed up the second week of our hols :shok:

    Thats Lundy in the bottom right corner.
