Situation in Lowestoft doesn't appear to be easing according to local tweets;
#lowestoft
-
Really - where did you hear that?
Check twitter hashtag #southwold - seems the sea level is as high as the pier.

Jeez!
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/142151.aspx
Off to check local water level - 2 1/2 hours before expected high tide...
That really, in a nutshell, shows the gravity of the situation. I've never seen so many reds and certainly not along the Blackwater and Crouch areas. I hope people take heed of these EA alerts in these areas.

From twitter hashtags of #lowestoft it appears that Lowestoft Town Centre is now flooded.

Well yesterday was quite an event for a narrow slither of south Essex from Southend, Hockley, Rayleigh and parts of Castle Point. My post yesterday was rather prophetic. The intense tropical rain just kept coming. People in Chelmsford can't understand what the fuss was about which just goes to show how localised these severe rainfall events can be!According to the radar abit of a streamer has established. think this part of essex will see some flooding after that lot has gone through

Seems about right. Obviously the 'sweet 'spot95.7mm on my station and its getting heavier again - lots of reports on Rayleigh facebook groups about houses along London Road and Downhall Park Way in Rayleigh being flooded and roads breaking up. Seems Rayleigh and Hockley have been worst hit.
-
It is amazing isnt it. I walked over the underpass shortly before its closure and people london bound were trying to squeeze through a river that was the underpass. CrazyWhy did they even attempt it, lmao A127

Blimey where is that? Ashingdon?Yes that's a car roof..... had a rain shower this afternoon in here in Essex
-
Just got this through from a friend - shows the bridge in Hockley under water! Easing a little - but now up to 87.3mmhockley bridge.jpg
Blimey! Always used to be a trouble spot during heavy rain until they did the drains. Not sufficient to cope with today's deluge. Traffic lights look like they gave up the ghost early!
-
85.2mm now in Rayleigh and still falling!
It is crazy and I suspect no-one else apart from a couple on here will believe you!!
-
Well just got back from venturing out (needs must) and my word what a ridiculous amount of rain in the Rayleigh/Thundersley area. Rayleigh Weir underpass closed and the roundabout just passable. The back garden has flooded areas. Looking at the rainfall radar we've been stuck under the oscillating heavy rain mass all day as a thin slither so I can well understand everyone's elses surprise as to mine and Danny's reports today. Quite amazing really.
EDIT and here we go again another blob of intense rainfall!
-
biblical rain here in thundersley now. ridiculous really!!

Umpteenth round of torrential rain here in Thundersley south Essex again!
-
I can well believe that. Looking ominous again eastwards. very darkUnbelievable rain here in Rayleigh - 14mm in the last 15 mins!!
-
According to the radar abit of a streamer has established. think this part of essex will see some flooding after that lot has gone through
-
Absolutely tipping down here again in Thundersley south Essex
-
Torrential rain for about 30mins here in south essex. now eased.

For some areas, this is a severe event and im very surprised a red warning has not been issued. https://twitter.com/...1879424/photo/1 The M6 currently, absolute chaos, this motorway is now closed. I wonder if this was in the south, a red warning would of been issued? I certainly think a red warning should of been issued at least considering they issued one for Wales last week.
Should defo been a Red warning for areas of NW England. The M6 J26/7 is carnage.

Wow, Cherbourg and Le Havre wont be seeing any ferries tomorrow. It's pounding down.
All that lovely snow wasted falling into the channel
C'est la neige
-
weird two camera pictures at Bamber bridge, one snow the other rain
This isn't good at M6 J26/7.
A complete mess.
