  1. Probably a repeat performance of yesterday - a few snow showers giving further coverings of a couple of cm's (max) with the exception of high ground.

All this talk of heavy snow affecting the north-west today, tonight and tomorrow is complete and utter nonsense.

    Hot*Snow

We'll im not sure about that, I'm pretty sure we'll get something out of that big clump of percip thats forming nicely over France http://www.meteox.com/h.aspx?r=&jaar=-...;soort=satradar

  2. Well all in all there's about 10 Wirral folk on here but some of them dont come on much.

Well I must admit I only tend to come on here when there is the slightest sniff of snow :D or any other extreme weather, but lately I am now finding all this model watching more appealing, the missus thinks i'm obsessed

  3. Heard That Manchester Airport Is having Heavy Snow at the Moment

    Can anyone confirm This.

It was probably an earlier report from the last area of showers that went through, nothing showing up on the radar yet. That next band of showers to the east are not too far away though.

  4. I still think tomorrow will be the best of the heavier and more prolonged burst specifically tomorrow evening/night onwards, very much a case of little to no fragmentation but the the pennines which should be torn down haha will probably have the last say in matters i guess.

I agree tomorrow's more organised band of snow will be are best chance, but the mild sector to the east of it may just spoil things turning the snow back to rain for a time before turning colder again in the early hours of tuesday morning. The further south west you are the better your chances of keeping the colder air aswell as the usual lucky ones who happen to live on high ground :D

  5. heswall is the other side of the wirral..as you probably know.. we have had one or two snow showers but nothing now.last snow covering was on new years eve.

We should get at least a dusting overnight though mate, and with temperatures dropping below freezing, whatever falls should stick around all night hopefully. :D

  6. sorry no snow here in bromborough on the wirral...Does anyone think we will get any??.news just said no chance?

Unlucky there mate, we've had snow on and off from about 3pm here. Looking at the radar you should have had some??? Skies are clearing now though and i'm not convinced those showers to the east are going to be very heavy over this way they seem to be fragmenting. Temp droping fast here now, currently 0.1c dewpoint at -4.6c.

  7. Nope it's definitely 5C (4.8C) now (with cloud and sun), there are many local weather stations around the 4-5C mark including Hawarden, Raby mere, and Thurstaston. I think it's because were open to the SE'ly wind, whereas you're sheltered, as the wind is very strong here

Looks that way steve, seems to be a lot of variaton in temperature on the wirral peninsular looking at wunderground.com, mine (IWIRRALB3) is 1 degree cooler than IMERSEYS5 wo's station is only 2 roads down from me! Maybe it has something to do with the easterly wind as I have my sensor around 4m up on a pole so it is well exposed! Anyway back on topic, it looks as though from the radar we should get what snow Manchester is reporting now, thats if it doesn't die out before it reaches here, if anything though the showers seem to be pepping up a bit.

Best of look anyway, if I dont get any round here i'll be driving up to pole hill as you will probably do better than me with your ellevation.

  8. its a balmy 5C here at the moment  so any snow will probably melt on impact with the ground if it were to fall.

Its 2.8c here steve, are you sure your thermometer isn't in the sun? :D Also were on the meto's Tuesday warning mate so you never know. I suppose the chance of a good dumping is low around here but I think we should atleast least see a few centimeters from Monday nights system.

  9. Brilliant photos especially the third one and final one....looks like there was far more snow on the grass compared to the concrete but even the concrete had a very good covering. NW England did very well in this event and even there was a lot of snow in Blackpool right on the coast. Very reare do you get such good snow events on the NW coast.

It mustve been the best snowfall for the NW since Feb 1996 probably.

Thanks HGB, I agree it was a very rare event I dont think we will see anything like that again for a long time unfortunatley, still you never know :D . We were having a clear-out the day before, as you can see in the second picture with a nice dump of snow on the top of my old TV :D I've never seen snow accumulate like it did on the back of that Fiat punto in my first picture, it was nice to see some "proper" snow for a change :)

  10. The 12th of March 2006 was the most decent snow event we had here for a long time. I remember waking up that Sunday morning watching the snow fall heavily, expecting it to all turn to a slushy mess when the mild sector moved in as forcast. Instead it just kept on snowing for almost the whole day with gusty eastily winds, and it was the dry snow type that blew about like sand in the wind. In the end I think we had around 10cm and huge drifts which stuck around for at least 5 days or more after the event. It was one of those events you only see every 10 years or so, and it just goes to show how it can all boil down to nowcasting.

I hope we get something similar to that event here again soon, as we almost always miss out here on the west coast at sea level. Heres a few pictures and a short video of that day:

  11. Currently a barmy 10.3c here in Moreton. There's been no rain so far but looking at the radar it looks like there will be some soon. Scotland looks like its taking a battering

Highest wind gust recorded today so far is 23.5mph but my garden is quite sheltered so probably more than that. Certainly looks stronger!

Pressure currently rising slowly at 1011.3hpa.

    Mark. :)

  12. Yep Birkenhead has rain, in fact most of the other side if Wirral has rain, come over to Heswall, I recommend it, or Thurstaston as its getting heavier!

Hi steve, just been to poll hill with my son Joshua to build a snowman, down here in Moreton its rain with the odd snowflake mixed in. Really wierd how it quickly turns to heavy snow as you come up the thurstaston slope from the roundabout near Caldy. What a differance 40m or so makes. Hopefully the snow might extend down to sea level when the heavier stuff arrives, but i'm not expecting it to. Makes me want to move back to pensby
