  1. It snowed here for a few minutes and started to lay at 7pm. It's all gone now but first of the winter here.

Must've missed that one, it did look quite "orange" down towards greenock earlier but seemed to break up as it got to the port.

  2. Surfaces more or less dry apart from standing water in drains (that council never clear of leaves!) fairly dry but still windy and cold last few hours, although long rumble of thunder ten minutes ago and broken up shower passed through providing a bit of hail but nothing much really - blink and you'd of missed it.

  3. Traffic Scotland got warning out for Strathclyde, Central/Tayside and SW Scotland Lothian & Borders concerning potential snow to lower levels early Friday morning - meaning most of us will miss it unless you're going to be a lampost jockey and stay up all night, plus on a personal and regrettable note, Inverclyde is not on the warning :nonono:  I suppose it'e even lucky to be getting these warnings at all so early in the season, especially after the obscenely bad (Not the good type of "bad"!) winter last year.

A period of rainfall is likely to fall as snow over high ground, before transitioning to snow at all levels, during the early hours of Friday morning. Snow may be moderate or heavy at times, and may well last for several hours. Accumulations of 2-5 cm are possible across lower parts of the warning area, with 10-15 cm possible above about 200 m. The public should be aware of the potential of disruption to travel and also the risk of hazardous driving conditions.

    Affected Areas
    • East Ayrshire
    • East Dunbartonshire
    • East Renfrewshire
    • Glasgow
    • North Ayrshire
    • North Lanarkshire
    • Renfrewshire
    • South Ayrshire
    • South Lanarkshire
    • West Dunbartonshire
    Possible effects of snow
    • Increased stopping distance
    • Reduced visibility
    • Increased journey time
    • Lane markings obscured
    • Obstructions on the road (abandoned vehicles)
    • Risk of ice patches
    • Snow gate closures

  4. What a difference six hours makes (and a fairly short over night sleep, coffee in hand, don't worry!)

Gone is the deep frost and ice pavements, but some strong gusty winds here already and this is only the beginning! Batten down the hatches for the next 36 hours, then button up the duffle coats!

Yep - same here no frost after last nights temp dip and frost, although no wind or rain here yet (Good)!

  5. No sign of precip at the moment here. The temperature has started to fall away though, down to 1.5ºC. I'm back in from walking the dogs (MrsC pulled a sicky lol), and there is a lot of ice forming on all surfaces.

Tomorrow's tools of choice to defrost the car (actually, these may be needed to gain entry to cars to start with):

I wouldn't have held out too much hope if I'd still been staying in Kilmacolm, so you were right not to get your hopes up :)

It's defo not an area to be in if you like snow. I remember looking at that famous white out map of Britain in Winter 2010/11 and the Clyde area and Ayrshire coast were about the only green bits on it!

  6. Too close to the coast and not enough elevation still pishin down, tbh didn't hold out much hope for any snow event here so not too down heartened. Car stat says 0.5oC but it's been a bit flaky (Excuse the snow pun) recently! Glasgow airport however was at 4 about an hour ago, now says 3oC....and sunny!!

  7. Bit of a hit and miss here on the Clyde seem to be getting showers pushing along the Argyll hills north of Clyde into Dumbarton area and only getting the sleety rain from the edges of the passing showers here - but good to see people are reporting it enjoy - hills are getting whiter to lower levels too.

Hi all.   Was 1.2c at 9.15am which has now climbed to 2.7c and dew point also up at 2.2c.  Must be that little bit of milder air that LS was talking about.   Very coarse outside though so temps a bit academic really.   On and off sleet showers here at the moment.

Lovely picture Edo.   Certainly brings back memories of when my two were young!

Great to finally get back to some form of snow watch.   Seems like forever since we have been able to do it! and with the forecast for the next wee while looking good, it makes it all the more exciting.  Enjoy everyone. :)

Welcome to all the newbies too.   Nice to have some new additions to the thread!

Hello blitzen thanks for the welcome!

  8. Since when was there a posh part of the Port!!  I stay in the upper part of the town, right beside Oronsay. Hopefully the wee bit of elevation gives me a good covering of snow, we do well occasionally. :)

Aye you'll get a good covering up there, I usually here from people up in Devol while it's snowing there I'm getting rain here - oh well wait and see time I suppose!

  9. Another Port boy haha, good to see you. What area of the Port do you stay?? We might be neighbours!! :D

Hello Ross yes another port Onion here :) I'm in the Posh West of the town up behind the big Tesco. Really I'm about 60 meters up but tomorrow just might take a walk up the golf course to get some elevation if you know what I mean! Get away from all that pesky Clyde coast rain/sleet mix!

Where abouts are you in the port?

  10. Welcome aboard grifter.

You should stick your location into your profile so when you are jumping up and down posting 'It's snowing here - woohoo!' people ken where 'here' is. :D

You joined at a good time anyway - some snaw action coming it seems.

    Enjoy.

Meantime, mild sector looks to be peaking here. 6.5 °C and dreich with a fair breeze.

Thanks for the welcome Scottish Skier - it's certainly looking a bit more interesting than last year. Hoping to see something on sunday, even a flurry or so I'll be happy enough - a blizzard would be good though! :) It's hard to imagine that happening with the way the weather is right now. In saying that last night about 2AM was severe frost - don't think I've ever seen it actually white almost like a blanket of snow on cars and crackin leaf patterns.

  11. Hi Everyone

I just joined and would like to say hello out there to all the weather geeks (!). I didn't see an official intro thread so thought here was best as this is where I'll be spending most of my time.

Apologies if this is not in the correct place and for taking the topic slight off on a tangent. I'm from port Glasgow in Inverclyde and I think there's a Ross here who is also from the port!
